I am with you on this point about weapons in the passing game…I think we have one of the worst receivers group in the league. There is literally NOTHING beyond GW. I think we have a bunch of scrubs that are better suited to be WR3/WR4 types and at TE, yeah, Ruckert has been a huge disappointment for a 3rd round pick. He has shown nothing worthwhile in a few years now. I’ve felt all along that our receiver (looking at WRs and TEs combined) group sucks balls and is the biggest weakness on our team (followed kinda closely by DL where there is Q, McD, a recovering JJ, and a bunch of scrubs). I think our passing game is going to struggle because I don’t have a lot of faith in Fields, but also because honestly, it’s not like he has a lot of help at the receiver group. I think we will see plenty of dumpoffs to RBs this year
Steelers defense is pretty damn good. And that’s a small sample size…it’s not like he lit it up in the passing game with those wins. But sure, if he can win 4 out of 6 games consistently, we should end up with 11 wins…sounds good to me!
Yes, it is ok saying the Steelers defence was good but looking at our camp, he can't seem to make a single play. I was willing to give him the chance and tbh we have no other choice atm anyway but it doesn't look great for us. Even if we get the #1 pick, what are the chances of Archie Manning refusing to come here? I'd say they would be quite high tbh
I saw something where Archie Manning has already said that Arch is staying in school so he won’t be coming out in next year’s draft. Of course, things could change by then, but I tend to believe it And yeah…I also agree that Fields, as bad as he’s been, was probably the best option for us last offseason…keeping AR didn’t seem to make sense with a new rookie coaching staff, none of the other free agents who were available (Russell Wilson, Jameis Winston, etc.) didn’t really have any upside and weren’t very enticing, and the only guy out there in trade talks that would be an upgrade would be a guy like Cousins, but even then the Falcons weren’t making him available, and honestly, I hate that guy. So yeah, Fields was a low risk (due to a relatively small contract) option who theoretically at least, may have some upside, as unlikely as that probability may seem. So I get the decision, but I’m not very optimistic on him, and nothing I’ve seen or heard from training camp news has changed my view so far. Next step is to see some preseason games and see if that changes my mind a bit…we’ll see But with a very mediocre QB and one of the worst receiver groups in the league, I’m thinking our offense is going to be a boring mostly disappointing show…
No chance for a trade. These guys will not give up any future assets, at least not now. But signing a Gabe Davis may not be the worst idea given where we are today.
I get why Ruckert is on the roster at this very moment but I have to imagine there’s a TE2 somewhere on the waiver wire that’s better than this guy. All reports are that he sucks in camp, just like he sucked last year. He’s not fast, he can’t really block because he gets called for holding every time he can and he can’t catch. I don’t see the point in him being on the team. Douglas drafted that douchebag because he was a Jets fan from Long Island. In the 3rd round!
Not only has Ruckert had a bad camp but Smartt has had a good camp. We all love the story but… time to move on.
He was with a historically good franchise that essentially never goes under .500 on the season. Fields is a bad QB. He's better than Wilson but he's still easily been a bottom 5 QB on average over his career. He takes way too long to get rid of the ball and takes a ton of bad sacks as a result.
Taylor is hurt and a stiff wind could blow Stone Smartt over. Someone has to block at TE and right now that's Ruckert
He’s a heavily penalized garbage blocker though. There’s gotta be a more worthwhile body in FA or on the 90 man roster.
