https://jetsxfactor.com/2025/08/01/ny-jets-awakward-qb-situation-justin-fields/ According to Nick Faria, Tyrod Taylor is clearly outplaying Justin Fields during camp, despite the offense being designed for fields. If this holds till the end of camp, I would start Taylor, until Fields proves he has the offense down and is clearly the better choice. I don’t think the coaching staff will do this though. I fear that Justin Fields is just Zach Wilson with better running ability, but would love to be proven wrong. What do you all think?
Agree on your summary review of Fields…I also see him as Zach Wilson with better running ability…they both have the same issues with subpar processing speed and inaccuracy Problem with Taylor is he is old and injury prone and there isn’t much, if any, upside
Neither QB will be on the roster next year. The FO is basically passing the time in the hope of staying competitive while they huddle over their scouting reports for the ‘26 QB class and decide on a draft strategy. Meantime they finish building the OL and Glenn gets his blueprint in place.
Going against Quinnen, Will, Sauce and company is a little different than going against their back ups.
Let's not get carried away so soon based on the opinion of semi-pro X Factor's second string writer. If a few of the professional reporters get on the same bandwagon it may need some more attention paid to it.
Too early. And legler82 has a point. Who is Fields going against versus Taylor? Another point. Tyrod is good for a few weeks and then breaks down. So I rather focus on Fields and see if he can be a long term answer or not. Play him until he gets hurt.
Yeah this year will be about installing AG’s systems on both sides of the ball and seeing if Fields can (finally) develop into a decent QB. Obviously we have a whole year to go through and see, but if I had to guess, I expect to see a pretty good OL and running game, I expect some struggles in the passing game, so maybe offense about the 20th ranking point (which would be an improvement over where we’ve been for so long) and on defense I expect a bit better ranking…say between 10-15 or so. I’d think going into next draft we’ll need to prioritize QB, WR, and pass rush. Again, WAY too early, but that’s kind of my view on it before even a single game is played … for what that’s worth Kinda nuts to think that after a whole 5 years of JD, we still have these holes on the roster….
He gave zero data behind that premise except for his opinion. I’m not buying.wake me up when a credible reporter supports it with facts.
Agreed, also let's remember that Tyrod is no chopped liver. If he could stay healthy, I think he is better than most starters in NFL and wild not be a back-up. You remember what happened when he entered last year for Rodgers. But he is glass and we can't start him for the entire year. Also vets like him and Rodgers for that matter are doing much better when they know they cannot get hit. Plus he does have more experience than Fields when it comes to learning new offense. The bottom line is, I don't think Tyrod being a better passer so far in camp is an indictment on Fields at all.
I think it's too early for that assessment. With that said if a month from now Taylor is clearly the better option and this FO still starts Fields then nothing has changed from previous regimes.
With 10 wins under our belt, all we needed was for the Jets led by FitzMagic to beat Thyroid Tayler and the Buffalo Jills, and we're in the playoffs..... Taylor took Fitzmagic to the woodshed. And our PO journey continues, 10 years later.
I don’t think the gap between the two is very different. Taylor could be just as good or even slightly “better” but even if he is you have to play Fields and see what we got or what we can develop with the 25 year old former 1st rounder over the 35 year old journeyman. This is a rebuilding year
I think Nick Faria is pretty credible. Yeah, it's his opinion, but that's all you will get at this point, opinions. And his is as good as any you will get. After that article though Fields had a great practice and Nick wrote he was very impressed and this is why he should be QB1. Also today in spite of actual numbers not being great, he commented that Fields had a fine practice as there was a lot of penalties and drops: "Mason Taylor with a drop. I actually think Justin Fields has been fine today. #Jets offense is moving the ball but the process is off. Fans start booing after a 10th penalty on the offense." https://x.com/Nick_Faria1720/status/1951639318696538136 I think Fields is doing fine and Tyrod doing better in passing earlier with the second team is not an indictment on Fields at all. More concerning we still have so many penalties.
No, but it’s easy to believe in today’s day and age a reporter could easily write a bs op-ed piece like this for clicks.
Taylor has always thrown a prettier long ball than most and he is doing good in camp, although he probably has more interceptions than Fields, but we are desperately trying to find our long-term solution. At this point I believe we have two very credible candidates at QB hat can play at a high level and that is nothing to sneeze at. But quite candidly, we have invested on Fields because of the long term, and we need to see if he actually develops into the QB we hope he can be. As such he is going to be given every chance and all else being equal he will start. As for comparisons, Fields is playing against the first D and holding his own, which is more along the lines of what we will see during the season. I think we are lucky that if something happens with Fields, we remain in the hunt.
So, what you are saying here is that Faria's very inconsistent. Or that Fields is inconsistent. Either way, that makes it way too early for Faria to decide the sky is falling on the season for Fields.
