JBC, competing for a roster spot throughout training camp just had a huge hit against Jamaal Pritchett #Jets (Long) Brandon Stephens on a corner blitz tips a pass from Fields at the line. Nice start for the $36 million man #Jets (Long) Breece Hall continues to make an impact in the receiving game primarily as a check-down option for Fields. #Jets @jetsxfactor (Long)
Fields gets the ball out before the pressure to GW. Wilson holds on to the ball despite Sherwood being right there. #Jets (Long) Braelon Allen getting involved in the passing game. I am telling you, he is going to gel very very nicely in this offense #Jets (Long)
Second 11-on-11 work hasn’t gone so well for Justin Fields. No turnovers, but too many missed reads and errant balls. Again, first day of camp and this is still a new offense. But clearly some things to fix. #Jets (Faria)
Arian Smith’s route-running is a lot better than people realize. Definitely better than it looked in college. #Jets (Faria)
Ok, back to teams, and the first two are incompletions (ain’t 7v7 anymore): —A defender bats the ball down before it can get to the target, helped by a pressure that mixed in an unexpected rusher. —Fields then incomplete to GW, but it was actually a good QB play. MC2 (the criminally underrated MC2) was on GW’s inside hip all the way. Unreal coverage. Safe placement on the throw. —He then hits GW in a soft spot. Chance of a hospital ball? Maybe, maybe not. We’ll never know. Flow was moving inside towards Sherwood. (Sabo)
Taylor connects with Arian Smith on the sideline for about a 20-yard gain. Smith getting involved early throughout the #Jets first training camp practice (Long) Tyrod Taylor puts just a little too much on a 30-plus yard pass to Arian Smith. Smith has wheels, it is evident as to why the #Jets drafted him (Long) Adrian Martinez hits Jamaal Pritchett on a 10-yard gain. Pritchett is getting involved #Jets (Long) And here it comes. Malachi Corley drops a pass right in his chest about 5-yards downfield. #Jets (Long)
Brandon Stephens was about to pressure Justin Fields and then batted down his pass in the backfield. Nice play. (Rosenblatt) Justin Fields was getting pressured by Eric Watts but quickly dumped it off to Braelon Allen, who made a nice play on the ball and after the catch. Allen is looking explosive. (Rosenblatt) Malachi Corley just bobbled a Brady Cook pass and dropped it. Was nearly picked off after. Pass was thrown a little behind him. (Rosenblatt)
Practice is over. Some takeaways: - Bit or an uneven day for Justin Fields. Had the long TD, but held onto the ball too much and was late on others. - I liked what I saw from Jamal Pritchett and Arian Smith today, Both got open at a strong clip. - Braelon Allen is a perfect fit for this type of offense - New York may have the best LB duo in football. Both Quincy & Sherwood stood out today. Good start for the Aaron Glenn era. #Jets (Faria)
Jets first practice is over. It was a light practice, up and down day for Justin Fields but he had some good moments. I had him at 5/8 in 11 on 11 drills. Might’ve been sacked by Will McDonald on one of those passes. Garrett Wilson: Still great. Full observations coming later. (Rosenblatt)
Aaron Glenn’s message to players: “The expectation in training camp is trying to create new things” “Super bowl is down the road” (Long) Aaron Glenn’s prep for training camp: “There is no such thing as downtime. Always thinking about how we can make things better for our players and coaches.” #Jets (Long) How Aaron Glenn’s has gotten players to buy into his vision: “Just by being authentic, I have always prided myself on being me.” #Jets (Long) AG on why the #Jets committed to Sauce and GW: “The film doesn’t lie, and just being around them. I am a pretty good judge of character, and those two guys are foundational players. And then, I want to set the precedent that we want to sign our own players.” (Long) AG on Fields: “He is as consistent as it gets, he understands he is our guy but he also knows he needs to work for it.” #Jets
Aaron Glenn said he hasn’t been with the #Jets in a long time but he’s been here in spirit and he’s watched the struggles — and badly wants to turn things around: “I understand the pain. I’m hoping, I’m praying and I expect the pain to go away.” (Rosenblatt) Aaron Glenn on Micheal Clemons: “Big, strong, tough.., if there is any player I would like to look like, it would be him. He’s built the way you want a football player built.” Said Clemons knows he has to improve on all the penalties he had last year. (Rosenblatt)
Justin Fields in the house. #Jets (Cimini) Justin Fields said he went down to Florida with some receivers during the off period. Said it was important to work on timing and to build chemistry. (Rosenblatt) Justin Fields on training camp goals: “Just picking up where we left off” #Jets (Long) Justin Fields on his relationship with AG: “It’s awesome, AG is great.” #Jets (Long) Justin Fields on entering training camp as clear cut starter: “You don’t have to worry as much, you know where you are and you just have to focus on leading the team every day” #Jets (Long) Justin Fields on GW extension: “I was excited for him, I texted him right away. He deserves it.” #Jets (Long) Justin Fields on what he is looking to improve on: “Winning a lot of games, making the playoffs. That is No. 1 on my list for me” #Jets (Long)
Man oh man. Congratulations on your son and God bless him and your family. So glad to see you pop-up. Now this thread has its owner back. Post away!
He says all the right things, does all the right things. He is Head Coach material. Hope his offensive side of coaches can deliver. Little nervous how green the offensive coaches are but it is what it is. We are not winning Superbowl this year any way. Hope they learn and grow with the team.
Unfortunately more of the same from Fields. Im aware it's day 1 of camp but its year 4 of the same symptoms. Still hoping for a Darnold/Mayfield resurgence but my expectations are tempered. Have to hope we can use his elite running skills to keep ourselves in games and at the very least make us watchable. I'll take that. It's a step up from last year.
Thank you sir! I'm hoping to be back on here more regularly now that we're getting close to the season!
This is the biggest thing I keep coming back to going into the year. Just hoping for a somewhat competitive team that can move the ball on offense. Obviously Fields is the ultimate x-factor for this team. Can he be a middle-of-the-road QB? Highly unlikely, but if so we could be a pretty good team this year. The more likely path is he continues to be what he's been his whole career so far, a bottom 5-10 QB, in which case we're looking at a ceiling of probably 6-7 wins.
