The Packers are the team that is allegedly calling for a ban on the 'tush push' play
An unidentified team has proposed banning the tush push used so successfully by the Eagles

I hope it passes. At the end of the day, it is an entertainment league, and I personally don't find a million QB sneaks to be very entertaining.

I think the people that call themselves 'purists' and like the play are not only lying, because it is boring as all hell, but also lying about it being some sort of legacy/traditional play. Up until 2005 it was illegal to aid the runner. So that argument makes no sense to me.

Just go back to the old, "traditional" rules where you can't aid the runner and call it a day. God forbid we get to see some creativity in short yardage!

    ---

also from the article - Sean McDermott talking about the play and his concern for safety has gotta be a joke. Buffalo runs the play just as much, if not more than Philly...

I don't think it should be banned, it's not impossible to stop. Plenty of teams can't even successfully execute it. If it was getting to the point where every 3rd and 1 was a tush push, I'd understand the argument, but I don't really see it any worse than a QB sneak and if they want to risk the health of their QB like that, they can do it.

You beat the tush push by not allowing the other team to get in "and 1" situations, I don't see how a RB rushing up the middle is any less boring on a 3rd or 4th and 1. I think we're just used to the Jets failing so hard at those plays, but the fact is plays with a yard or less to go are usually converted.

It’s not just 3rd and 1 though. They are running it on 3rd and 2 and then again on 4th and 1. So you get a short run, WR screen and then 2 QB sneaks. First down, let’s do it all over again. That’s boring football

it’s also nearly impossible for the referees to spot the football correctly in that mess, something the teams exploit.

And in many cases a false start should be called when half the center’s body is OVER the football on the snap!

No need to over regulate the sport. There are already a hundred thousand things that are illegal and multiply that by ten for the amount of things refs call penalties for.

They shouldn’t ban it, but in all fairness they should allow the defense to do the same, including on punt and FG blocks.

    Pussies.

Stop it. Do your jobs. Play some defense. Just because they can't figure out how to stop it. Gimme a break.

In the old days I remember teams used to have monster DTs in the middle to stop the run with big 'backers, big safeties.

Not a fan of the play.

IMO if they allow the tush push for the offense they should allow defenders to leverage off lineman to block field goal attempts.

Russini is reporting that more and more "momentum" is shifting against the play. Not expecting a ban just yet though

tabled until may. 16 teams are in favor of banning the stupid play reportedly so far with 24 needed to make it official

How do you even enforce it? What are the stipulations?

It better mean no ball carrier can be pushed from behind then cause I don’t see how you just make it on QB sneaks.

"The #Packers have submitted updated language for their Tush Push proposal, one that will be voted on at the league meeting on Wednesday. It takes the rule back to what it was until 2005."

    https://t.co/Pj6hFuPTUq

makes sense to me, the rule was the same for decades, you can't push, pull or lift a runner. They were just exploiting a loop hole in recent years

The Packers proposal to ban aiding the runner, aka, tush push, failed today. It got 22 yes votes but needed 24 to be enacted. The Jets were one of the yes votes.

    ---

Totally sucks man its such a boring ass play

Also, Jason Kelce was there to speak on the play's behalf?!?! WTF why does that guy have to be everywhere in front of everything, its annoying.

Proposal to ban tush push in NFL fails by two votes, sources say - ESPN

the original article was wrong. The Jets were one of the 10 teams to vote no on the proposal and save the Tush Push

"The 10 teams to vote against the proposal, sources told Schefter, were: The Eagles, Baltimore Ravens, Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions, Jacksonville Jaguars, Miami Dolphins, New England Patriots, New Orleans Saints, New York Jets and Tennessee Titans."

Good lord. It's a fucking QB sneak bro, get over yourself, Lurie.

I'd left that room; I'm not listening to a 1hr rant about QB sneaks in either direction. Especially when he's spiking the football like they created something amazing

    --

Sources: Tempers flare as Eagles defend tush push in heated debate - ESPN

Philadelphia Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie made an impassioned speech in defense of the play. The Eagles and the NFL declined comment, but sources close to Lurie told ESPN that he had seen reports from earlier in the day that the tush push was going to be banned, and so he figured the odds of the play's survival were long.

Toward the end of a speech that lasted close to an hour, Lurie made an analogy, telling the room that regardless of whether the play was banned, it was a "win-win" for the Eagles, adding that it was "like a wet dream for a teenage boy" to create a play that was so successful that the only way for it to be stopped was for it to be banned."

Lurie spoke for several more minutes, criticizing Goodell and Troy Vincent for allowing a ban to be considered, then he paraded up his assistant GM and later retired center/social media darling Jason Kelce

An hour had passed when San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York asked Lurie "how much more s---" he needed to say.

    for real though.

Hard to believe that the Bills voted for the ban, considering that on a percentage basis they are even more successful at it than the Eagles are. If the report is true, I guess they figure that they have a QB who doesn't need to be pushed from behind to get into the end zone/get a first down.
