Higgins to NE would be unbelievably annoying. To me he's he best pass-catching option left and he also happens to be a perfect fit for us. Only fitting he'd end up with the franchise I hate the most and torment us twice a year.
I said it before the draft and I'll say it again now. Once you get past the media/fan driven need to have a visible "future answer" at QB that they can then directly wishcast on I've was never convinced watching any full breakdown of Sanders' tape that he's actually a better NFL level QB talent then Justin Fields. Who we got for cash only and didn't have to pass over another area of great need while doing it. A few years age difference and the WAY too much emphasize value typically being placed in the fact Sanders comes in as an NFL virgin just doesn't get me there. As somebody who generally hated the new regime hires this winter I'm walking out of yesterday more optimistic then I was going in. If we pass on a chance tonight to add Higgins or another solid option as our #2 WR to chase name value and wishcasting crap on QB I'm probably back to being more pessimistic though lol
I feel like this would be a good spot to move up. The Jets have 2 fifth round and 2 sixth round picks. If the WR they want is there at say #37 - maybe Burden III or Higgins - I would try to get there with those extra picks. If not, stay put and take Mason Taylor.
Not to mention the Jets need a day one starter at #42 not a circus like Sanders. If they want to take a shot at a QB it really shouldn’t be until the fifth round. I’m ok with taking a flyer there. Too many holes at this point. WR, TE, DT, and S can all be filled with starters/possible starters before they take a QB just to throw into the mix. It may not be the popular choice but this new regime did not sign Fields for $30 million with the intention of replacing him during training camp….
Im leaning WR with their first pick tonight whether they trade up or not. Personally I would like to see size …. Higgins, Harris… I also like Ferguson at TE…he may be available at 73.
I agree about drafting a taller WR, but I feel like enough of the teams in front of us could use a WR as well where none of those guys will drop. Maybe this means Taylor drops to us or even one of the bigger bodied DTs like Alexander, Sanders, or Turner. I’m not sure if a 2nd round pass catching TE would be ready to start though. Based off of nothing really it seems more likely that you could start a rookie DT next to Quinnen and see immediate impact. That being said if that S Nick E… drops, you’ve got to take him. Tall, fast, athletic, good in coverage. Not our biggest need but worth going BPA.
Something no one has mentioned about Sanders - He takes a ton of sacks. Guys with that issue in college work out at very low rates in the NFL.
If you watched the AG/DM presser last night AG may have dropped a hint when he was talking about how he likes to build his lines from the inside out. He said offensive line - as well as defensive line. Now I’m wondering if the Jets go even higher for DL. Assuming the Jets draft 2 players tonight Id say it’s almost 100% one of them is a pass catcher (WR or TE). I’d say maybe 50% both picks are pass catchers. DT is probably close to 50% being one of the picks ….
I would love to come out of tonight with a pass catchers (whether that’s a WR or TE) and a DT…that would address our biggest needs. I could also get behind coming out of tonight with both a WR and a TE, and leaving the run stuffing DT to round 4 if the board makes sense that way
Absolutely. If it were to play out the way my favorite scenario would be Higgins at 42, Ferguson at 73 and Caldwell the Oregon DT at 110.
He played behind a bad o-line. What I've been hearing/reading. Despite that he's where he is. I think that's a plus for him coming to the Jets. The jets have their moments when they build strong o-lines also their times when they allow that unit to go downhill. From what I've heard & read this dude is the most Jets ready QB in this draft. He doesn't need everything around him to be perfect to excel and here that rarely will be the case.
I was just going to say this very thing. He would be a great value pickup at 42... Clearly, I was not wrong on Sanders. He is a project. He needs time. He has to get thicker to withstand the beating and he needs to get out from under his Dad's "wing" and learn some more about QB'ing. Sanders has a future if he lands in a place like San Fran or Minny where there are QB guru's to help him sort things out. In my opinion we already HAVE a project QB on the roster. Speaking of which, is he actually healthy enough to step toe on the field yet? If Moog and team can come away with a WR or, as mentioned above, Emmanwori, I'll feel like the first two days were very solid. At this point, I'd rather they not give up picks to move up. Keep plugging forward with what they have.
Geno had rocks for brains, was a turnover factory, was blessed with tremendous athletic abilty yet refused to run the ball. Sanders sounds like the second coming of Chad Pennington. Accurate, smart. That's what we need.
Chad got the ball out quick, it’s what he was known for. Sanders takes sacks because of how long he holds on to it. Obviously a fixable problem but let’s relax.
