If it’s a smokescreen (and I hope it is) it’s a smart one. The Cowboys have a gaping hole at RB that everyone and their mother knows they want to fill. I could also see the Cardinals and Bears being interested.
Every single time I do a mock draft it ends up that we’ll be staring at a combo of these players when we’re on the clock: Graham/McMillan/Campbell/Membou/Warren/Sanders I can’t advocate for Graham unless we’re unloading Quinnen Williams, which is senseless given how much dead money it would create. I struggle with drafting Campbell or Membou because the OT class is deep as hell, you can grab Ersery in the 2nd and still plug him day one at RT. I struggle with drafting McMillan. He openly stated he doesn’t watch much film, doesn’t love football, and skipped the combine. I’m conflicted because Julio Jones once said all the same things. I struggle with drafting Warren because TE’s are never worth top 10 picks. Bowers was the first TE in 20 years taken in the first round that truly looks like he’s worth the pick. Warren isn’t as talented as Bowers. Sanders just seems very basic as a QB. I think he’ll be a middle of the pack QB all said and done, low floor but not a very high ceiling. No matter what the draft either puts us in a place of picking a premium player that doesn’t fit us, or we reach for players like McMillan or Warren. If we have a reasonable offer for a trade down, especially if it includes a 1st rounder in 2026, I think we should do it.
I just don’t really see it with McMilllan. Maybe I’ll be wildly wrong but he reminds of some of the good raw athletes that came out that didn’t really play the position, they just played pickup football in college and won with athleticism. Reggie Williams (Washington State) and Matt Jones (Arkansas) come to mind. Trade down for an OT 3-4 spots is ideal.
Starting to have the same feeling, I just can’t get with a guy that says he doesn’t watch film or love football. To me, a trade down to net us one of Warren/Loveland/Golden/Burden along with some extra picks seems to be the right move here.
I've been doing a ton of reading and watching film of players and the ONLY thing I feel like is a surety is there will be no trade back. There simply isn't enough talent worth trading UP for. Ward, Hunter and Carter are the only 3 that could be considered "worthy" of going up for and they'll be gone by the end of pick 4. There are a crap ton of "good" players and the ONLY reason I put Ward on that top 3 list is because he's the only QB worth a potential trade up. It really is a "eye of the beholder" draft. Someone is really going to have to fall in love with a mediocre talent to want to blow future draft capital and I simply don't see it. This right here "might" be the only real trade possibility and, as others have pointed out, the Raiders seem to be the logical landing spot which takes the Jets as a possible trade partner unrealistic. Las Vegas would be the recipient of that trade, maybe. If Jeanty gets past the Raiders then, and only then, could I see the Jets getting lucky in a potential trade down. This is a hard draft to pick because there is so little top 10 1st round talent.
While I fully subscribe to trading down if possible, I have no idea what you mean by players that don’t fit us. OT and DT absolutely fit us and are positions of need no matter which player we currently have on the team. Depth in the draft particularly in positions of need allow for some wiggle room but at the end you grab best available whenever the value is there. Draft is absolutely the way to build for the future but taking best talent when you have the opportunity.
We have last year’s 2nd ranked OT in the draft on our roster. Our highest paid player on the team currently plays DT. We do not need 2 top 10 drafted DT’s eating up $50m of our cap. If you want to propose a way to trade the underperforming QW that gets his dead money off our cap, or at least compensates us enough to justify carrying that dead money, I’m all ears. Lining up Graham next to QW makes no sense, QW needs a fat run stuffing guy next to him to free him up. This draft is stupid deep at OT and DT, there’s no sense using a high pick on either position unless we had a dire need. We don’t.
I hear the oline class is deep this year, but our oline is swiss cheese. I think we pick oline in the first and second round. Have that unit be complete for once.
You can draft Ersery, Savaainaea, Cam Williams, etc in the 2nd round and plug them day 1. There’s not a significant dropoff from Campbell/Membou/Banks to the afformentioned, especially considering they’re RT’s.
Will this year FINALLY be the year where the Jets trade down their first round pick? I'm hoping so. There are good players available at positions of need in the later first / second round. Getting an extra first next year could be huge, and so can an extra 2nd or 3rd this year depending. In my eyes this is a draft that is mostly about finding hidden gems in the later rounds. Sure there are a few very good prospects near the top, but outside of that I see many first round busts this year.
It’s the only thing that makes sense for us. Now we need to hope it makes sense for another team to move up.
Idk maybe I'm crazy but if it goes the way folks are saying recently... I take Sanders. I'm not banging on the table for him or anything but you just can't argue the value of a potential FQB vs a TE or RT at that spot. Especially if he can sit and learn. With that said hoping for a trade down
I don't understand how the ONLY thing that makes sense for us is trading down, as if it doesn't make perfectly good sense to solidify the OL or take a potential game-changing TE.
Amen to that. If there is a player there you feel particularly strong and really like you take him. Especially when you have a few areas of need for a starter ready now player. While I do suscribe on potentially trading down this year to garnish picks, is only a move is there is a player or players you also really want and expect he will be there. You just don’t miss on people you really want and compromise on another player because “is comparable” just because you have multiple needs.
I get the value discussions, but it sure feels like we have so many needs, that at 7 there should be a few choices that make sense in terms of positional need and player value. I think we have very clear and significant needs at OT, WR, TE, DT, DE…there should be more than one worthy player at 7 at those positions. I also think QB is a real need, but given this class’ weakness and the expected strength of next year’s QB class, I’d pass on QB and pick from either those positions or if for example Sanders is there and someone wants to trade up for him, I’d consider that as well. Either way, there are enough holes on our roster (so fucking sad to say after 6 years of JD) that we should be able to fill needs
