A lot of time you do this infuse fresh blood. He is not firing anyone, just basically identifying people who frankly prefer to leave and now will get some motivation to do so. Let's see what happens. This may be a part of a larger strategy which Glenn brought up before, where the new regime wants people who want to be here. Frankly after 14 years of losing I don't mind a different approach.
When you think the organization can't be any more embarrassing, the Jets can't help but say "hold my beer". Could they do a buyout of the fanbase as well?
Without being specific everyone contributes to some degree, and yes some smaller than others. But I don't really know these 170 people, and neither do you. How do you know they have 0 contribution to scouting or any items on the player survey or anything else? Again, it's voluntary buyout. Meaning whoever doesn't really want to be there has a greater incentive to leave. I see nothing wrong with trying this approach to try to improve things across the board. It hasn't exactly been peaches last 14 years.
you keep saying the same thing over and over but a lot of it is weird and incorrect. for starters - "fresh blood" means new employees. I havent heard any reporting about plans for new employees. Have you? This report is about buying out existing employees. Secondly, the guy or girl who processes your credit card in the office doesn't have jack diddly to do with the team losing every sunday. It would make their jobs more enjoyable if the team won in fact. and lastly, buy out opportunities are always followed by layoffs. Don't take Woody's lie on that one
If they people who process credit cards do shit job (I assume you talk about banking example as I doubt there is someone on the Jets who processes it, that's what banks are for), more people will opt of your credit card, that means less revenue, less net income, less money to spend. Again it is not the same as CEO getting a buyout, but there is small impact everywhere. As far as fresh blood, I have no idea, but I do hope so, as it is often the case followed the buyouts. Just like you have no idea about lay-offs. In fact that part has been refuted. I don't know if it will yield positive results. But I do know we had negative results for 14 years, so it cannot really get much worse. But it might get better, you never know.
Hard to have any real opinion on this without knowing what employees are being moved out the door really. The only real reaction I have is that it’s a very large percentage of the employee base, so that’s a bit surprising…even when the cutbacks are affecting about 10%-20% of the company that is typically a pretty big impact…to see this high a rate is honestly like WTF has been going on at that company? If they really have over 60% of employees not contributing what they should, that is a TERRIBLY run organization. Hard to imagine really. But to have a real opinion, it’d be good to know what positions are being eliminated…
Woody just heard about this DOGE thing so he hired some consultant to help him try it with his organization wondering how many will actually take the buy out. hopefully the reporters follow up so we can know. Those that don't are going to be on borrowed time for sure
Sounds like it's worth a shot. We sucked for 14 years. It's not exactly the case of don't fix it if it is working. If it is like Doge, maybe there will be more analytics, AI etc as a result. I mean I don't get the reluctance - we sucked for so long.
I again have to ask what you do for a living if you think every employee in the Jets building contributes to what's on the field. I have a job very comparable and I can 100% assure you that buyouts (which yes are inevitably following by layoffs and no was not totally refuted by Woody) are offered to people that have nothing to do with the product you see on the field.
The Jets as a business haven't sucked for 14 years. The Jets as a football team have. These people getting bought out are on the business side, they are not football players, coaches, or scouts. Also "AI" can't win football games either
Exactly. Cleaning house has just as much to do with business as it does football and I don't think a single one of us gave a shit about gutting the business side of things.
Did I miss the part where it is only on business side? Can you point to it? If so, then I agree, might not matter much.
So what type of employees? Ticket “salespeople” that just take orders in cubicles? This story looks like a big ol’ nothingburger as it pertains to anything to do with the Jets on the field.
The buy-outs apparently apply to non-contractual employees (i.e., at-will employees). https://www.sportsbusinessjournal.c...fer-extensive-buyouts-seeking-culture-change/ To see who's not affected, just see who works under contract: 1. The coaching staff; 2. The GM and his staff; and 3. Players, of course. The question I have is whether the team's scouts and training staff have contracts or work as at-will employees.
