I fully agree. I was very high on McMillan but I don’t like this look from him at all. I don’t like taking Warren at 7 but I won’t lose my shit over it. I really hope they can trade down.
Interesting article here on QBs. Matt Miller from ESPN https://www.espn.com/nfl/draft2025/...st-round-qbs-2020-2025-prospects-ward-sanders ESPN "polled NFL scouts, decision-makers and analysts to help build the list, and pre-draft grades were the only consideration here.". Prospects were 2020 to 2025 plus Cam and Sanders. Cam was #18 and Sanders #20. For reference, Zach #9 and Fields #14. So, even if Sanders is there at #7, I don't think I am running to the podium. 6-1.5 height coupled with weaker arm is a concern about his prospects. Honestly, I would rather sign Fields, who I still think can realize some of the potential he had. Then maybe a QB later in the draft or if somehow Travis is ready for OTAs on April 7th (seems doubtful now). Keep him a 3d. But if not, we can get someone later in the draft or just roll with Fields and Taylor. But not with #7. The only one I would consider at 7 is Cam, and need to watch more there. And Cam is short too. Definitely no trade up though.
After the combine I stand by this statement. Sign Fields, trade down, draft any one of the names above, in order of preference W Campbell, J Campbell, Membou, Warren, Loveland (maybe McMillan but I need to see what he does on his pro day).
I don’t understand the point of that exercise. The scouts and analysts polled just want to be wrong again?
I like Jaxson Dart b/c his name is really cool. On the other hand, it looked like he was chewing gum during his combine workout. Zach Wilson also was chewing gum on his pro day workout. That's a bad sign.
The QB combines/pro days seem silly. It doesn't matter how well you can throw the ball. You need to read defenses and have pocket presence. Those are crucial skills needed by NFL QBs.
It's also a bad sign that he looks a bit like Zach Wilson, LOL. But he threw very well at the combine, I was impressed. I also like Quinn Ewers from Texas. I like QBs who have a seemingly effortless delivery of the ball even on deep throws. He has that. Earlier in this thread I said I would draft Milroe at 7. After seeing his combine workout, I retract that, but I would draft him later, say round 2 or 3, if the Jets haven't drafted or signed another QB earlier.
This is where I land. Fields, trade down and stock that roster. I was listening to Sirius NFL today and Ryan Leaf was a guest (I know I know lol) but he says EVERY single GM he's talked to says no one has a 1st round grade on any QB in this draft. If the Jets can't trade back, there are way too many great players, at other positions, that this team can use and be a hell of a lot more impactful than a circumspect QB that sets us back another 4 years minimum.
I wouldn't be opposed to trading down a few spots and grabbing Jeanty. Maybe flip Breece for a good pick or player.
Here is something mildly entertaining. Josina Anderson, who has been fairly reliable, reported the following: https://x.com/JosinaAnderson/status/1896655822970581454 "...a quarterbacks coach from a team drafting in the top 7 referred to Shedeur Sanders as coming off “brash” and “arrogant” in his team interview and making his assessment known to a number of people, per source... The coach is also not in favor of getting him. That is what prompted my post, because there are other folks in the building who vehemently disagree with that assessment." Also, in a since deleted tweet she suggested the guy is not white. https://x.com/Playlikeajet1/status/1896750392710721649 Now, you don't usually say "drafting in top 7" unless it is #7 . You could say top 10, top 5, etc... But top 7 is VERY specific. Plus insinuation of non white QB coach, and Josina has been pretty spot on about the Jets this off-season, so she probably has some source there. But it sure sounds like Charles London is not in love with Sanders. Which makes two of us, so I was not unhappy to hear this to be honest. Though sucks we still have a leak in the building.
At this point, with the first pick, all the way down the first round, you have absolute studs at CB, OL,IL, edge, LB that can set the edge,, TE and a couple of WRs, Trade down if you can or stick with a can’t miss. No to trading up for a QB please. Trade down and grab a QB in the second if there is a hot prospect.
Jets should let the draft come to them and see who is there at 7 that said hoping a QB is there and we let him sit a year or so not based on tape (and I wouldn’t know what to look for if I did) but based on gut. Draft analysts are like the guys predicting cataclysmic hurricanes and nor’easters. Even w all the science they rely on they seem to be more often wrong seems whenever they say a draft has great qb talent it ends up meh. And on the flip side they get a boner over trubitsky but not Watson and Mahommes the magic (not luck) seems to be in a team truly understanding who they’re selecting and how they can leverage good traits and mask poor ones. No one will be perfect. personally I’m very intrigued by sanders because of bloodlines. Swagger (will be needed in Ny) and accuracy
I do think it is a good idea to trade back, just not sure if there will be a taker. It appears in this draft after Cam, Carter, Hunter and possibly Graham there may not be much difference between a whole bunch of guys. Meaning we might not get much back for trade back. But what I am saying about Sanders is more than that. Much like our QB coach I would not even take Sanders at #7 without a trade up and maybe use him being there to get more on the trade down.
He’s not worth the 7th overall, and there are so many really good OT’s in this draft there’s no need to reach for one. Trade down.
My gut tells me Cam Ward is 100% pick #1, let snot overthink it. Shedeur I guess had to be the QB Josina Anderson is talking about so even if he's available, we aren't getting him. All our cards are on deck but I'd think our big board at 7 is the RT from Mizzou, Mason Graham, or Tyler Warren.
As I stated here a few days ago it seems pretty obvious to anybody willing to read between the lines here that the New York Jets are clearly a Cinderella slipper fit as one of the "Clown Show" teams Deion would be looking to discourage off drafting his kid. So with that dynamic in play it's no big shocker to hear the Jets (I share the same "top 7 is too specifically stated" feelings as you do that it's likely them) would essentially be taking that behind the scene messaging as brash and arrogant. This leak if it is the Jets isn't a good "turning the page" look on us either. I also won't be surprised when we see Dianna Russini use it as her opening example in the Athletic's mid season hit piece when we circle back around to the part of remembering that while the FO faces may change....this will still always be a Woody Johnson family run franchise who does Clown Show better then anybody.
