I think our organization is FINE... BUT If you have a chance to add a quality individual with football experience not many have to your organization, you DO IT FAST. You can NEVER have enough people to bounce ideas off of. Bring him on as a part time consultant for Tannenbaum/Mangini to bounce questions off. Just getting his working KNOWLEDGE of what some of the other guys are thinking is worth a million a year...
there was a rumor, i think last year from that dino guy. he said parcells would be our gm. that didnt work out though.
Mortenson: possibility for tuna to act as consultant to jets mortenson just said that he wouldnt be surprised if mortenson rejoined the jets as a consultant.
Ugh - as others said in Jetsfan119's thread, I appreciate what he's done for our team, but we're better off without him at this point.
You have certainly got to be joking. Having Parcells as a "consultant" is a disaster. He's too Top Dog, too opinionated and too used to having his own way. Kiss his ring finger and everything is swell, otherwise you're "not with the program" and don't know what you're talking about. I like the present Mangini/Tannenbaum combination, unencumbered by the likes of a Bill Parcells. They've got almost a year under their belts and they're doing fine, IMO. Hiring Parcells for anything, and I mean hiring him for locker room manager is, IMO, courting dissention. Parcells was, at one time, a good coach. Leave it at that.
i believe there is def some truth to what mort said. many of these longtime coaches cant walkaway completely and use the consultant role to ween them off. dont forget him and tanny work really well together.
What is the harm in having him serve as an outside consultant if that's indeed what he would want to do. He and Tannenbaum are tight (he was going to bring Mr. T to Tampa if he had taken that job). I don't think he has grand plans to pull a coup. One more voice in the draft room, free agency, etc. can't hurt. It's not like he is 15 years removed from the game, either. He played vs. half the league this year, and has some ideas about who the good players in FA might be. And while I like the new regime, there will be some rough patches ahead for sure. Why not have a sounding board available.
It aint broke.... don't fix it. Parcells could do nothing but screw things up. I don't think either Mangini or Tannenbaum want any interference from a blow hard like Parcells.
http://forums.theganggreen.com/showthread.php?t=17888 I broke the story before the so called "expert." I think it would be a good idea.
Look, understand this about Parcells: 1) He's no "sounding board" for anyone. This is not his role... just ask him. He speaks and you listen, period. He and he alone knows what is best for the NY Jets and no snot-nosed, pudgy little "penguin" is going to tell him what to do. Got that? 2) His contracts are one-sided. It doesn't matter what legal language is included in the contract, when he wants out, youi'll let him out and no questions asked. Understood? This also means that, as long as the Jets are winning and his input has been adhered to, he's fine in accepting all the credit. As soon as we have a losing season, however, it'll be because he wasn't listened to and he therefore needs to move on, no matter what his contractual obligations are to the NY Jets. Do you understand all of the above? Thank you. And now you know why we don't need this @sshole in the organization.

Been there, done that. Bitter-sweet to say the least.... ...from the AFC championship of 1998 to the power-wielding that sent Bellichick to NE instead of our sidelines, from restoring credibility to the Jets with his arrival to leaving us in complete disarray with his departure. If he's going to advise anyone, it should be Big Blue where it all started for him. Let Coughlin have to acknowledge his presence in a room; Mangini's holding the room just fine on his own.
Completely agree. Mangini is new and should make decisions on his own accord. Parcells is "the Don" type of guy who most people probably would not want looking over the shoulder and judging everything they do. Pass.
What has Bill Parcells won over the past 10 years? The Biggest Manboobs on an NFL sideline award? Actually he hasn't even won that, so why (other then for his own benefit) do we really need him? He's proven to be nothing more then mediocre without the fantastic CS that traveled around with him wherever he went. On top of that, I don't think Mangini would be down with it. This is his team, and anything that could change that perception in any way shape or form will probably not be welcome. Edit: After giving it a bit more thought, as long as he was in a position where he was almost never seen and only heard from at Tangini's request, it might not be too bad. I don't view him as a must have though.
I want no part of him and I can't imagine the Jets do either. First of all, why does Tannenbaum need him? Second, you made the argument for me - Parcells is a HOF coach, but his record as a GM has been less than stellar. Keep him as far away from the Jets complex as possible. Besides, he abandoned the Jets once already and left the franchise in disarray. Why bring him back? Let him go to the broadcast booth or the golf course where he belongs.
