The lady doth protest too much, methinks . . . Jets owner Woody Johnson acknowledged he read a recent article by The Athletic that painted him as a meddlesome owner and the Jets as a dysfunctional organization. Johnson said the article was “absolutely untrue.” “I think the article is a typical smear piece — unsubstantiated,” Johnson told The Post. “Nobody really stood up and put their name on anything. It’s absolutely untrue. Everything was out of context. When you’re losing games, it gives people the artistic license to kind of do what they want.” https://nypost.com/2025/01/06/sports/woody-johnson-son-brick-has-no-role-in-jets-decisions/ Kind of weird that Woody the rube brought this up out of nowhere during the hunt for a new GM and HC, right? I mean, I guess he's trying to thwart the idea that this is the most laughable team in sports? A little too late for that.
Joffrey has no role in the organization. It's just an apprenticeship to be the owner of the team. No role at all. Totally out of context. The thought of Woody having an apprentice is comforting. Such a mentor.
Someone on Twitter had a good point recently He/she/it said we should all be thankful to Dianna Russini for embarrassing Woody Johnson enough to make changes. im not sure i agree … yet. He did acknowledge he needs to be a better owner at Mougeys press conference. Bur it’s one thing to talk big in February, and another when things get hot again in draft, FA, and training camp
Here's my problem. It's pure common sense. The guy hasn't worked for ANYTHING his entire life. Everything has been handed to him and everything was handed to his kid. I'd be willing to stake money I do not have that neither one of them did a shred of homework in school. Which means they basically feel like their money IS their intelligence. A VERY common problem with ridiculously wealthy people. All that sums up to is an idiot, who owns an NFL team, thinking he is now a football guru. The mere FACT that his kid, at his age, is anywhere near that team, in that capacity, is testament to my statement. Not sure what the answer is but clown shows start at the top AND the ONLY thing you need to see that proves it is the record. You ARE what your record says from the top all the way to the bottom. End o' story. And, yes, it IS that black and white.
I think this point about giving Russini credit is utterly ridiculous. I mean it's pretty obvious Woody needs to be a better owner: he hasn't made play-offs in 14 years. He needs to hire better people. What he has done differently this year is hired football people to help with the GM/Coach search. Ultimately though he ended up with Mooge and AG, who are not that much unlike JD and Saleh on paper. He also changed the structure as well, back to what it was before, but he had that structure during playoff drought. The only real difference so far is he got another senior guy to rebuild operations part and be an experienced sounding board to 1st time GM and HC. Now, I don't see how any of the above can be attributed to Russini. Her main point was that JD and Saleh were about to do so great this year, but Woody meddled and fucked up a lot last year. But for the 1st 5 years JD could do whatever he wanted. I expect the same will be afforded to AG and Mooge, and they got another voice in Spielman. I don't see how any of this has anything to do with Russini. We just have to hope AG and Mooge with Rick as advisor are better than JD and Saleh.
I know a lot has been made of Brick based on this article with anonymous sources (Bob and JD), but in what capacity do you think he is contributing to the Jets football decisions? Woody already said he does not, and as a proof they just had a GM and Coach search, a pretty critical aspect of football operations, and by all accounts Brick was not involved - not just from Woody but from everyone who spoke out. On one hand I see a few people saying Brick is running the show, but on the other hand we have accounts of multiple people who got interviewed and Brick was not present in this most important part of the football operation. If he is running the show, why was he not there? Because he isn't!!! Now of course if you do not care about facts and just want to shit on him, why not, I am not stopping you. But that is just baseless. Still fun to do though, so I get it.
Well, I'm late to the party with this thread. That being said, that was an absolutely horrifying read.
Yes agree with a lot of this, but he tried the “hiring football people to help with the search” before and fucked that up then because he listened to a dinosaur named Charley Casserly who just held up his friend Mac. The only difference I see is that this time he hired someone more recent in Tanny and Spielman, so I’m hoping for better results, but as you say, we ended up with the EXACT SAME THING…a first time defensive coach and a first time GM. Been there done that…results are no different. He did NOT learn anything about hey, let’s get an offensive guy in here because that’s where the league is going…he SHOULD have learned that you need a QB to win, and the best way to get to that is to hire an offensive type guy to groom a QB, because whether Rodgers comes back this year or not, we will still be needing a new QB sooner rather than later. But right, we have no choice but to hope that AG and Moore and Rick are better than the last two guys…
Yeah, I don’t think people seriously believe that Brick is running the show really. I think most people are saying what the fuck is that entitled prick doing anywhere near the locker room handing out game balls. And what the fuck is he doing “advising” his dad on roster decisions because he’s looking at Madden ratings…and while I know Woody denied it all, I don’t tend to believe him much. I have no doubt that Brick could easily be playing Madden, and that Brick could easily be talking to his dad about players who happen to have good or bad Madden ratings and having at least some sort of influence. Of COURSE Woody is going to deny it. What else can he say? But I have to go back to my underlying premise…just when you think Woody can’t be MORE ignorant or MORE stupid or MORE totally absolutely inept when it comes to ANY football decision, he just shows us that in fact, YES he CAN be MORE fucking stupid. I have zero respect for Woody. ZERO. He’s an entitled idiot who was handed the world in his lap and never had to build or create or do anything to earn it. And as another poster said above, the only thing we need to see to prove the point is the sheer ineptness in this team…longest playoff drought, incredibly bad hire after hire after hire across multiple positions…that’s it. Anybody with half a clue would have put a better product on the field.
While there is no doubt Woody is absolute dumb ass, but this is mostly manifested in the type of people he hires to run the team. And yeah, this type of stupidity is a big deal. Like for example during this entire search we haven't talked to a single decent offensive HC candidate. But as far as Brick, sure it is dumb that a 17 year old handed out a game ball to GW, but people are making this to be some massive deal, when it is a small thing and has absolute no bearing on any outcomes. The Madden thing is flat out misrepresented. The very guy they talk about Woody not liking Madden ratings, Simpson, they got as a very 1st free agent signing on day 1!!! Facts simply do not align with this theory. Again, Madden thing is funny, and people like to shit on Woody no matter what, I totally get it, and I shit on him as well, but only for things he actually deserves based on facts. Madden thing is not one of them.
I mean it’s kinda obvious the crediting Russini was tongue in cheek. Whatever it takes to hold Woody accountable is a good thing though. He said it himself he needs to be a better owner
And now Russini's reports from "anonymous sources" are being disputed by the most reputable folks in the industry: https://x.com/RapSheet/status/1890198261664805114 " From The Insiders on @NFLNetwork : No, the #Jets did not release Aaron Rodgers because he refused to stop doing the @PatMcAfeeShow . They never asked him to stop and didn't view it as a distraction. The final decision was far more collective." I really want to hear from Rodgers on this, but when it comes to the Jets she may be legitimately batting a 0. Can't believe so many people were so gullible as to buy into her "reporting" before. Hopefully no more.
