The way to change the culture is by winning games. Rodgers gives the best opportunity to win games over all the other names now being floated around.
That's just a theory...not a reality. If Rodgers gave us the best chance to win, why didn't we win? It's about accountability. Just as much as winning. I'm glad he's gone. Just because Arod isn't coming back, doesn't mean we can't win more games than we did with AR here. That's a fact. The bar is really low. I'm tired of this team being a fucking loser. It has to change.
In general and at this point I'm pretty against the concept idea of letting Rodgers walk out of the building and without ever actually giving it legit go without all the fanboy or Jets'y bs getting in the way. I mean as far as I'm concerned keeping Rodgers around RIGHT NOW is more or less what the same conversation SHOULD have looked like 2 years ago. Being the Jets we just couldn't help but take the hard and backwards way to get here. Downgrading at QB the next couple of years to chase the fairy tail rebuild story, which of course ends up drafting the save-the-day QB, is just bleh feeling to me atm. As somebody else noted I'm too old and been through that too many times now. Especially when I didn't really like any of the FO hires we've made, and when I don't particularly care atm about how much money Woody or a few 4-5 win effort teams over the next few years "saves" with a Rodgers cut. That said, this reported story being true would be enough to bring me around. I'm still intrigued with Aaron Rodgers as a QB here with actual boundaries. If he wouldn't get on board with that then yeah he needed to go.
I just saw that Russini report on Glenn drawing a line in the sand with Rodgers! (paraphrase) "If you want to come back, you show up for every practice and quit the Punter show on ESPN" I'm so fucking proud of Aaron Glenn for coming in and taking back this organization. This professionalism was sorely needed
If true, this is great and exactly what needed. First principle: people need to be on the same page and dedicated
Sorry no. You change the culture first at foremost by playing as a team. Roger’s didn’t change much of anything last year. He did not make the team appreciable better, did not change the culture, did not embrace any change other what he wanted, and did not win many games. Half of the offense was a non participant thanks to him. And he brought some dead wood with him to boot. Care to guess how many times he missed open receivers because he was looking at no one but Adam’s. It was either his way or the highway. Clear at the meeting he did not accept conditions, who is in charge and what the approach would be. Too bad. Outstanding move by the leadership.. He is not bigger than the good of the team, Time to build this right. .
Because the Jets had the worst coaching staff in NFL history, a defense that completely fell off, and a FG kicker that missed kicks. If Rodgers came back we wouldn't be running it back with those same conditions. We would have a new coaching staff, new FG kicker, and likely an improved defense. Regardless it doesn't matter now. If Glenn wants to bring a new culture then it requires winning in year one.
I am glad the jets got rid of the diva, but what is exactly the jets plan to win games and make the playoffs in the near future? Do they even have a plan or are they winging it?
Stopped reading right there But seriously, Rodgers will be on McAfee's show pretty soon, and he has absolutely no reason to deny that the Jets told him not to come on his show. If that were true of course, which I doubt. We will find out soon enough if Russini's sources are as bad as they have usually been... Until then, don't count on this story being accurate.
Gotta love that approach from AG and Mougey if the reports are true. Setting the (reasonable) expectation clearly. Give him a chance if he's on board and if not, he's out. Great sign for this new regime
Because the coaching staff and front off sucked. Because the talent level was not what the media made it out to be. Because it is a team sport and the team wasn't any good. It's okay, though ... because some contending team will lose their starting QB for the season in Week 2 next year ... Rodgers will sign with them and lead them on a playoff run (despite missing mini-camp which apparently is the most important thing in the world) ... and 80% of this website membership (and the sports media) will have to pretend Tyrod Taylor was the "smart move" all season while we position ourselves for the #1 pick overall. "Who could have ever guessed Aaron Rodgers would be able to come in without missing a beat and lead the Lions to a Division title after Goff tore his ACL in Week 3?!?!?" <--- Everyone in national sports media ANSWER: Me. Very easily I could guess that.
The fact that Rodgers said no to being at mandatory practices and not talking shit in the media every week (things everyone else in the league does automatically) is unreal to me. What a pompous douche
dont hurt yourself patting yourself on the back for something that hasnt even happened yet. Besides Zach Wilson could lead that Lions team to the playoffs
I'm not sure Rodgers will play for anyone next year. If he couldn't align with Glenn's stipulations, which really weren't asking too much, then I cannot imagine other organizations bending over for that
"The fact" LOL. It's pretty fucking far from a fact. 90% of Russini's reporting is utter poppycock. At least when it comes to the Jets.
Totally agree. So sick of Saleh's huggy approach of befriending the players. Saleh posted a final message to the jets players that he loved every one of them--which explains why the players never had any accountability for all their many penalties.
Yeah, that would be a bummer, but at the same time if say Fields, Carr and other better younger options go elsewhere, Kirk for 1 mil (dirt cheap since he like Russ would be getting full salary by other team) is probably not much worse than Rodgers at this point and would come at 1/20th of the price, while still 5 years younger.
I am a big Rodgers fan, and I loved that he embraced the Jets, he did everything he could to win here. Ultimately though he was too old and declined to the point where he just could not get it done. For the last 3 years he kept getting hurt to some extent. Which is to be expected with age, and will get worse. And it was not just him of course, but the bottom line is that he is a shell of his former self now. And yes I know some of his stats are pretty good, like total TDs and yards, which is very important, but there are also some really bad ones. For example, he threw a lot of times to get these yards, but they were mostly short passes: 28th in yards per attempt. That's bottom 5 in NFL. You talk about completion %, but did you realize his completion % over expected was 34th in NFL, that's back-up level, not even a starter. 24th in off target %, where he is basically way off. https://x.com/RichCimini/status/1889024887794323921 . And that's just passing. His mobility is non existent. Which is why QBR is also 25th in NFL. The reality is, yes there are some good stats (I do think TD number is padded a bit as a lot of short TDs would normally be off the run, but we always passed), but there are some terrible ones too. Overall 25th in the NFL is about right. And he will be another year older next year. It's only downhill from here. Now, is it possible for us to get a 25th QB in NFL instead of usual 32nd? That remains to be seen, as historically as you noted we have 32nd best starter in NFL pretty consistently. \ However, I do want to give the new regime an opportunity to find someone who is not the worst starting QB in NFL, while getting younger and using the money saved for longer term success as well. That is not an impossible task, and therefore letting go of Rodgers was the right move. Now, can they use that money saved and the starting QB opening to get better short and long term is another question. But it is a right thing to do to release Rodgers and try.
