While I abhor that someone like you should believe they have the right to set terms here, I will accept that deal.
How can you ignore the fact that the Jets history has been abysmal and the third best of such an abysmal history is pathetic? The Jets are not a team to benchmark in creating a standard of success. Please don't expect anyone to believe that the performance of Rodgers as a Jet would have anything to do with his acceptance into the Hall of Fame other than making it more difficult.
There never was a Rodgers Era. There may have been an ill conceived Rodgers Experiment but other than possibly selling a handful of season tickets it never got off the ground.
Besides they make it so easy for QBs, like 10 other teams probably had “the 3rd best QB performance in their history.” i can name a handful off the top of my head- buffalo, Baltimore, Cincy, Washington, Detroit for sure, Chicago probably..Minnesota.. some of those QBs aren’t even good. It’s just a lowered bar for everyone and it’s VERY low for this franchise. We can do better than Rodgers —- I’m really excited about the possibility of a young team growing together, it sucked watching a 41 year old lose every week with such a bleak future
Kotite Boomer Esiason 1-15 was the low for sure. Gase a close second. Is it bad I miss the Ken O'Brien/Al Toon era? Parcells and Rex years 1 and 2 were the only good eras in modern Jets football.
Glad players are coming out against this new regime. Bring em hell because they deserve it. Hope they all request trades and run for the hills as fast they can.
I've been a Jets fan for 40 years. I can tell you exactly how next season plays out. 1. The Jets will have two wins going into the last week of the season and will be in the #1 position in the draft. 2. The fanbase will be doing cartwheels that we're about to land Arch Manning in the draft. 3. The Jets will win a meaningless game in Week 17 and it will move us from the #1 pick to the #2 pick. This will be in the morning. 4. The fanbase will be heartbroken. 5. In the afternoon games of Week 17, whoever moved up to the #1 spot will also win a meaningless game. The Jets will move back to the #1 position. 6. The fanbase will be the happiest it has been in 15 years. 7. Around the time of the combine, whispers will start circulating in the press that Arch Manning won't play for the Jets. 8. It will quickly become a national story and all the media talks about for the next two weeks. 9. The new dipshit GM will make a public statement about how Arch Manning is a great prospect, but there are lots of great prospects in the draft. 10. Instantly, the fanbase will be crushed, as this will signal to them that the GM knows Manning won't play for us. 11. For the next week, every call into WFAN will be about how much Woody Johnson sucks. 12. Then it will come out in the press that the Manning family wants Arch Manning to play for the Giants. 13. The fanbase will be in even more of an uproar as Giant fans begin piling-on about how much the Jets organization sucks. 14. For another week, all national media will talk about is Manning forcing his way to the Giants. 15. The new dipshit GM and Woody will call a press conference and announce that the Jets have traded the #1 pick to the Saints for their #4 pick overall. 16. Woody will incorrectly believe that this will make the fanbase feel better because by sending Manning to the Saints, he will have denied the Giants (and their #3 pick overall) from getting him. 17. New Orleans was where the Manning Family wanted Arch to play all along. 18. The Saints will take Arch Manning #1 overall and he will go on to a Hall of Fame career. 19. The Giants will take Drew Allar #3 overall and he will be a perennial Pro Bowler. 20. The Jets will take a defensive player #4 overall and he will be an average starter. They will be too afraid to take a QB because they don't want comparisons with Manning or Allar for the next decade. 21. The next QB selected will be Garrett Nussmeier (somewhere between #5 and #8) and he will go on to a Hall of Fame career. You can swap Allar and Nussmeier in this scenario (or replace them with another first round QB prospect). The important part is that both picks will have good careers, one will be a Giant and neither will be a Jet.
The thing is it was pretty much expected the Jets were going to be horrible with both Kotite and Gase. I remember how disgusted many fans, including myself, were when they hired Gase. We were promised a Super Bowl fairy tale with Rodgers and many of us bought it. That's why, in my opinion, this one was worse than Kotite and Gase. P.S. Neil O'Donnell, who was a SB starting QB for the Steelers in the previous year, was the initial starter in the Kotite 1-15 season. He got injured and was replaced by backups.
Much like our history giving us example after example of what not to do, Quinnen’s play went down the shitter once he got paid. Fuck fatboy, overrated loudmouth. Perhaps we’ll learn with this new regime to stop giving DT’s a 2nd contract unless you’re truly talking about a guy at Aaron Donald’s level.
It made no sense to me. This was his last chance to really end on a high note and he was talking about VP opportunities and then went to Egypt for mandatory training camp. I defend him because I think much of the criticism is unwarranted, but I can’t defend a decision to go to Egypt during the most critical team development period. That was his time to eat breath and sleep football one last time. Go to Egypt after you retire.
This is unbelievably false but much like our history giving us an example of what not to do here, it's not worth the time or energy arguing with someone who looks at sacks as an indicator of how well an interior DL plays.
Can't wait to see him have an all pro year next year. This literally is going to play out just like Favre. Incompetent ownership will cost the Jets yet again.
Our only shot at even being semi-competitive was having Rodgers back. This signifies a full-blown rebuild which isn't a bad thing, but I hope no one is tricked into thinking this is going to be a quick fix. No one is going to choose to sign here, our best players are probably going to want out, and we have to nail draft picks. Basically... we're right where we've been for the last decade plus and we've been abject failures the entire time so my hopes aren't too high that it's going to be any different.
If Cousins becomes available, I don't have a problem with the Jets picking him up. Apparently he can be had for about 1.5 million. Not much to lose really.
@Cman69 , can you kindly merge this with my thread? I started first, don't really care, just so it doesn't clutter the board. Thanks. https://forums.theganggreen.com/threads/rodgers-took-a-short-walk-off-a-long-plank.100731/
