Scott Turner coming in as O passing coordinator from the Raiders. I’m actually liking this. I thought he did a hell of a job with the passing game and particularly the rookie TE last year. Another experienced offensive coach.
Apparently we are hiring Eric Washington as DL coach, ex DC of the Bears. Pretty damned impressive. Something tells me the D will be vastly better this year for sure. Add to that Chris Harris as D pass coordinator, a position he held with the Titans and did very well. I think our secondary will rock even more.
I was hoping for someone of Doug Pederson caliber, an established QB guy, accomplished. Like what coach Knapp was supposed to be for Saleh. Or if we want to go young, then a former QB with a little bit of experience coaching - a McCown type. London does not seem to fit any of these, seems like an older guy, but without much accomplishments and not a former QB himself. Last year was a QB coach for Seattle and was fired when they replaced an OC, and Kubiak wanted to bring his guy. A bit underwhelming resume if you ask me.
This is a good hire. Also probably next in line in case Engstrand has success and is poached. Scott Turner has a lot of experience, has been an OC, and is not that old, only 42, same age as Engstrand.
I see the Raiders threw down some big money for Chip Kelly as OC. A lot of people wanted experience here, the Raiders got an abundance of experience with Carroll and Kelly. We will see how it works out for them
I have not seen anything more about our new Offensive line coordinator. I thought we had an official hire. To me this is an under the radar but very, very important hire. Particularly if the intention is to switch to a zone blocking concept.
You are unlikely to hear official words "we fired Hackett". But he is officially not our coach any longer: https://www.newyorkjets.com/team/coaches-roster/ Above are the only coaches we have, some new ones, like Turner, verbally agreed and will be added once the contract is signed, but the old coaches like Hack who were under contract and are not on this page are fired. So, rest easy, Hack is gone.
So, are they still afraid of pissing off The Legend? They sure as hell didn't have a problem announcing the Keith Carter firing. Why treat the Hackett departure with terrycloth mittens? Only one reason comes to mind...
no that's incorrect the Jets didn't announce Carter was fired, it was some guy on twitter. Carter, Hackett, Downing, etc. have all gotten the same treatment by the Jets... replaced by the new staff
I'm actually encouraged that they are handling it like a professional organization for once. The old Jets would've aired dirty laundry to the media regarding Hackett and we as fans could've been distracted by his proverbial head on a pike
I don't think the Jets announced that either, someone from the beat reported they moved on when when they signed another OL coach. It could even be a source from Keith. It's not like Rodgers won't know about it. I mean they already basically sacked Hack last year. Whoever is not on this official page is gone, I am sure Rodgers knows it, and he may very well be next.
Hackett is gone. there is no need to have a special announcement showing that he was actually fired. He was pretty much out last year, and he was classy enough to stick around to help in a much narrower capacity. He is no longer on our roster...that all that matters. Further public humiliation to appease the fans is really not needed. there was a lot of coaching incompetence last year.....Hackett was just one piece.
fair trade off for the billions who are now social media zombies controlled by their electronic leash in their pocket.... btw, that was a broad range you were looking for
