So in other words he'll tell Woody Johnson to shut up and sit down?

    Wouldn't that be a treat.

So he’s here to advise Mougey? He advised us to hire a candidate that he’d ultimately have to advise as well?

But you were the one who wrote "a consultant who helped you with your search ends up getting hired full time." Where did you get that from?

Who cares what he draws? Are you helping Woody count his money now? Do you think he can hurt the program just by giving advice?

He did take a full time job with the Jets: https://www.cbssports.com/podcasts/with-the-first-pick-nfl-draft-podcast/ . Exactly 2 min mark there he says it is full time.

But I don't understand an issue with "full time". What is wrong with converting a consultant to full time employee? He will serve in the same role as he was as a consultant (advisor), but now full time, focusing on "trying to rebuild football operation part of things". Usually these things involve analytics department, recovery and health department, things like that. He said he will also be a sounding board for Mooge and AG.

Again to me this is 100% positive. I don't see a downside or any conflicts.

Forgive me but I find it a little mystifying that some here are actually concerned about bringing in senior help for the young GM in an advisory role. Money wise, we pissed away so many millions on stupid trades that never helped fix the root cause nor achieve a sustained talent base. We should rejoice that he will assist our young GM hopefully be successful. God knows we need help. Is not like we have a recent history of successful GMs able to turn the franchise around..

Exactly, there is no CAP implications preventing from signing players. Rick Spielman has a very good resume. I don't understand an issue if a guy like that to help with operations or be an experienced sounding board to first time GM and HC. The last thing I care about is if Woody's wallet will be a few 100K lighter a year because of this. I am sure he will survive somehow.

There's nothing wrong with a consultant becoming an employee. It is a bit odd to have an employee whose job title is "advisor" though as that generally indicates someone who is other than a full time employee. As I asked a couple of guys here already what the problem is - do they think he can hurt the renovation of management? I'll take all the advisors, consultants and expert witnesses anyone could provide.

    It's New Jersey, isn't it?

I wonder if anything happens to Hymie Elhai now. No idea what the guy actually does.

I got it directly from the mouth of the guy we're talking about. He said it.

I'm wildly confused. I didn't think calling it "shady" was going to start an argument but I forget that the internet mostly blows.

    Spielman talked a lot.

He announced his own hiring and his role and then he shared what was discussed at the first staff meeting.

Weren’t these guys contracted to find us a competent GM? Or was it that they couldn’t find us one good enough to be on his own so now we need to contract them to hold our GM’s hand? If Mougey likes a player and Spielman doesn’t, who wins?

I’m not concerned, nor do I care what they pay him. I just find it funny we hired him to find us a competent GM, and it seems what he hired was an inexperienced GM that he’ll have to hand hold for the foreseeable future. You might clap and say great move, but I dunno I think the great move might’ve been to hire a GM that didn’t need a consultant to tell him how to do the job.

You mean a GM that failed on the job before and got fired…because that’s what was available. GMs don’t get too many chances. I rather go with youth on his way up than experienced ex GM that is spiraling down.
