100%. If we hired a proven great OC (who would call plays - say Liam Coen or Monken or Kellen Moore) to be the HC and say got same guy - Wilks or someone else like him - to be HC of the defense, I think we would be better off long term. But now we need to hope a tight end coach can be a great OC. And if he is, he will be gone in short order, and it will be another system again, which is rough for a QB. I think Tanny and Woody both are living in the past. They are still looking for next Parcells. I would hire a GM 1st, like Halaby, and chances are he would then bring in Moore. But, with that said, let's hope AG is good and we can get an OC that is good to at least end the play-off drought and go from there.
Parcells was one of the best to ever do it, but you have to take what some of these old legends say with a grain of salt. They sometimes get stuck in the decades they were a legend in and have no idea what the game has become. Polian's the perfect example of this, legendary GM but oblivious to the modern QB position to the point where he said Lamar Jackson should be a wide receiver. I trust Parcells when he says Glenn is a good leader, but I'm also suspicious Parcells doesn't understand the importance of offensive coaching in today's game.
I'm not so sure. I think with Aaron Rodgers it's more about respecting the coach. As we all saw when Saleh tried to be giddy in celebration with him after a TD, AR wanted no part of him. He publicly said he liked "Robert" but we know he did not respect him. Will he respect Aaron Glenn? He just might. So it might not be as simple as Alpha Dog, but even if it is, Glenn seems to have more "dog" going for him than Saleh did.
I'm not convinced the Old Dog can learn new tricks from our new, much younger OC. It may come down to Rodgers wanted to migrate to a system more suited to his style of play. The Jets seem poised to go cutting edge on Offense. Heavy on innovation. Being older, I get it. Its pretty late in the game for Rodgers to learn a completely new system from the stone age shit Hackett and Downing would draw up.
Glenn was on Sirius XM and he told a story how when he first met Parcells when he got here. Parcells told him he doesn’t like short cornerbacks like him and if other team offers something in a trade: “you are gonna be out of here” hahah
That's quite a lot of money. But he is a legendary QB. I say find a way the GM has to go to work. Wilson & Sauce are babies the Jets could easily backload their extensions without much danger I think.
Find a way? Ok? The way is 63m against the cap in 2026? You wanna extend that so it’s more favorable? What more do you wanna pay the guy and for how many years of him not being here? He WAS a legend, and for that he had 2 years to try and take us to the top. The problem is the team isn’t hood enough and neither is he. If the GM wants to prove his worth he gets rid of Rodgers now for the absurd 49m that Douglas left us with and turn the page.
The Jets weren't relevant, Aaron Rodgers kept them in the news along with stupid support from Woody Johnson. Aaron Rodgers was relevant only as long as he stayed in the headlines which I'm sure Woody enjoyed no end.
But why find a way and kick the can further down the road for a Qb who will be 41 next year and is average at best at this point in his career? If he was still elite you make sacrifices but not at this point in his career. This is how the Jets got into this cap hell right now in the 1st place by kicking the can down the road.
Relevant to what? Failure? Too late - they were there long before Rodgers was even in the conversation. He was supposed to get them out of that. More failure.
Out of all the hires so far, I'm baffled by the QBC hire. The guy was a RB and has no experience coaching QB's. Not sure why this hire happened.
He’s been a QB coach since 2021 though. Not saying he’s qualified or is good at what he does since it’s been with the Falcons and Titans but he does have experience in doing so. Maybe the guys a whiz at breaking down film and tendencies? You’re right though, seems like a strange hire.
Yeah, I don't get it. Other hires seem to make sense, but this one is just odd. I was looking for accomplished Pederson type or if inexperienced, a young up and coming former QB Josh McCown type. We got the worst of both worlds looks like.
