Get me Slowik and a rookie QB. Stroud's first season was a lot of fun and showed that rebuiilds don't have to take 15 years.
His second season sucked though, and his OL regressed. This year was quite bad for him considering the QB he has and some OL investments. Not sure I want him. In fact I am more worried Texans can now steal that Rams dude Glenn wants. Then we might not have a choice but to get Slowik. What is the hold up on the hires? Open up your fucking wallet, Woody, and let's the best OC we can in the building. This OC hire is probably almost as important as a HC or GM. Also we need a great OL coach. Why are we waiting for others to snag Glenn's guys?
the hold up? jeez Glenn has been on the job for what 2 days? And he had to help hire a GM, no biggie. He should have a staff fully assembled now too? Come on now. There are teams still playing anyway he might want someone from those coaching staffs
Just because you see a delay in hiring (just like you were sure of a GM/HC package deal) doesn't mean there is a delay in anything. You might find it healthier to react to what is actually going on rather than creating false scenarios that get you all worked up. I have seen absolutely zero indication that ownership is being stingy in the budget allowed to front office and coaching staffing just as I have seen nothing to indicate the organizational chart will be altered, another example of your imagination working overtime. This is the New York Jets, just relax, there will be more than enough real action or inaction by management to criticize without the need to conjure any up any gremlins of your own out of vapors.
Package deal was definitely the intent, it just didn't work out exactly like they planned for whatever reason, I suspect because Glenn changed the narrative. But you do not only bring one GM for the second round together with you primary HC target if you do not at that time intend to hire him. And they still got two other guys later with connection to Glenn. So, my thinking was spot on. I am also not suggesting Woody is stingy, I always said he is dumb, not cheap, just that he might need to pay more than others to some of these OCs since other situations have better QBs. And yeah, it helps to move quickly to get your guys. This is not some controversial statement you need get worked up about - take some of your own advice to relax there. Speaking of wild imagination though, just to be clear, based on what you've seen is your conclusion that HC reporting to GM org structure will not change and Glenn will report to Mooge?
I'm liking the names being thrown out as potential OC candidates so far. I think I'm mostly intrigued by Nick Caley so far but I'm interested who they get. Hopefully it's a modern thinking mind.
On google I saw that Chip Kelly is in the running for a OC job somewhere. Not here but he's available. Days ago I read Coach Glenn wanted to bring in Mark Brunell to be his OC here.
I get the feeling the relationship will be different and both reporting to Woody or someone else.. I don’t know that to be the case of course. But package deal or not, reporting position or not, the GM and HC should have the same vision for the team and working hand in glove for all player decisions, be it draft, free agency, who to retain, renegotiate or release. If they are at odds with each other on the goals it would get ugly and ineficient.
I’d like to see McCowan get an interview. Doug Pederson nobody is talking about but I feel he’d be a good candidate as well.
I tried to research the various sources for rumors about possible considerations at OC. Here is a list for info Mentioned as possible interest by the Jets - T. Brown Bears Interim Coach - J. Johnson Texans QB Assistant - T. Haley Senior offensive advisor - M. Brunnell Lions QB coach - J. McCown Vikings QB coach - A. Lynn Commanders Running Game Coordinator - P. Carmichael Broncos Senior Offensive Assistant - J.T. Barrett Lions assistant QB coach - J. Morton Broncos passing coordinator - N. Caley Rams Offensive passing coordinator (favorite) Not mentioned but available D. Pederson Chip Kelly, Kubiak My vote is Kubiak, Pederson, Caley with Haley as an advisor.
"Open your fucking wallet, Woody" is not supposed to reflect a failure to do so? Really? You can continue to believe there was "definitely" a package deal intention but again, that came from your own imagination, not from any involved party or informed observer. Whatever you expected is kind of odd to keep repeating without anything other than your imagination to support it - but you do you. I don't get worked up in the slightest about goofy opinions; in fact, they amuse me but I don't have much tolerance for people here posting their wholly created "fact sets" as reality. And since no change has been announced in the reporting structure in Florham Park that's exactly what I'm currently believing in - why wouldn't I? Imagination has nothing to do with it. If tomorrow a change is announced I'm fine with acknowledging it after the fact rather than before it happened.
Given that Caley seems to be viewed as an up-and-comer I'd be surprised if he agrees to come to the Jets given the less-than-stellar turnover rate at the position. It would speak pretty highly of Glenn if he came on board
