When has it happened where an owner or GM forced a coordinator on a head coaching hire, and it worked out?
Glenn will need an experienced OC methinks. If there is someone good in Detroit most likely he will get promoted with Ben gone. Plus most of good staff will go with Ben. Who will be the OC then? Pederson just got fired, won SB before, had a play-off year in Jax. Unlikely to get a 3d HC job. Maybe a perfect OC that will stay for a while if he succeeds?
Glenn is in and now who will be his next OC and DC??? A lot of names are out there linked to the jobs. Who do you think? For OC I’ve read that Kubiak, McCowan, Brunell and Haley. For DC it’s looking like Wilks or another surprise candidate.
This says Wilks is a done deal? https://www.si.com/nfl/49ers/news/former-49ers-coach-signs-with-the-jets-01jj7q2jw2q0 @Brook! can you merge; https://forums.theganggreen.com/threads/2025-coordinators.100671/page-2#post-4440328
These reporters are pretty unbelievable now days. He is citing a source which says he is a "target", and then writes as if it is already done.
Wilks would be a fantastic get. Experience and also good at his job. Players loved him in Carolina after the Rhule debacle, he clearly has the respect and command of his guys. Every OC name is scary. Caley has been a tight ends coach forever and has been passed up multiple times for OC jobs. There has to be a reason. Kubiak would be solid but doesn’t look likely. Todd Haley?? In 2025? As an assistant or consultant so there’s an experienced voice in the room, sure. As a playcaller? Hell no.
One thing about Wilks, he seems to have a good strategy for running QBs. I remember his plan in San Francisco against Jalen Hurts. It was described as a delayed rush and it crushed Hurts. We play Allen and Drake Maye twice a year, and if we want to go anywhere, we will face Lamar Jackson too so it's important to have a strategy to beat these running QBs. I think a delayed blitz where you flood the middle of the field is a good plan, as opposed to recklessly blitzing off the edge or sitting back and trying to ask linebackers to stop them in the open field

Would Doug Pederson be an option at OC? Maybe having a SB winning coach on the staff can help a rookie HC.
I saw that Thomas Brown is not going to be retained by Ben Johnson in Chicago. Someone reported Jets interest. He's been the OC with the Bears and Panthers and was the Bears interim HC this season after they fired Eberflus. Maybe he's the OC to look at? Brown comes from the McVay tree and also worked with Frank Reich, thats some good experience
I’m down with Wilks. His defences have been good everywhere he’s been. That’s a great hire. OC and Quarterback are the 2 gaping holes for this franchise. It’s kinda worrisome that an OC hasn’t been selected because usually when interviewing for the job you put forth a plan of action and who your staff will be?
I don't think anything has been finalized. SI guy said Wilks signed, but then gave a source, which said Wilks is a "target". I do think if Glenn signs the Rams guy as an OC, he will bring in an experienced assistant. KInda like what Saleh did with MILF and coach Knapp, who unfortunately passed away.
The way I've heard it is that Caley has been offered OC jobs but has turned them down. Not sure if true but reassuring if so.
The coordinator of not one but two of the worst offenses of the past decade. Yes, perfect fit! Exciting!
Read that if we do get Caley, we might be able to snatch up Matt Stafford too. If we could pull that off, we could say goodbye to Rodgers and move into the future finally. Thoughts?
Thoughts? Yes, hiring an OC for the purpose of luring an aging, past his prime veteran to come play here for a boatload of money sounds like a great idea. Why haven’t we thought of this before?
I would like Caley, but Stafford I think is a pipe dream. Caley reminds of MILF, who came with Saleh, but never really got a chance because JD did not give a good QB nor serviceable OL. If the new GM can get the OL completed (we have major pieces already in place but need gut subs and a starting RT) Caley will get a chance that MILF never did. Of course if he succeeds we will probably lose him soon and have to do it again, but would be nice at the very least to see a good offense for a change, however long it lasts.
