To be fair, being the #1 seed, losing at home, and then losing both of your talented coordinators is about as SOL as it can get!
Hard to get excited about this hire… was a great player here, but that was decades ago. His defense in Detroit was horrendous. Woody more concerned about DEI than getting it right.
Probably in the minority but I actually like the hire. I was not happy about Bowles, Gase or Saleh, but I cannot say that this time. I am optimistic that the hire of Glenn does not hinge on his defense or X and O’s. John Harbaugh, Mike Tomlin or Dan Campbell all are successful playoff head coaches without having a long coordinator resume before becoming HC. All 3 are viewed now as Head Coaches and not as an Offensive or Defensive guy. Even Vrabel and DeMeco Ryan did not have much coordinator experience on the resume, Being a good HC is so much more than that, it takes something intangible - leadership and decision making both I think Glenn would be good at. Glenn’s success will hing on getting a good staff - which has been the Jets biggest problems is the quality of coaches down the ladder have sucked and could not get the best out of players and obviously finding a QB.
I think this works out pretty well for the Jets. I think he’ll assemble a good staff and get the most out of our good young players that seemingly didn’t give a flying fuck last year (particularly Sauce and Breece). Some of the complaints here are just wild. For the record I strongly disliked Saleh and thought his resume was much worse than Glenn’s. He was on the verge of being fired until they lucked into Bosa and they suddenly had a great defense.
I hope you’re right! HC for sure is way more than just X’s and O’s, though being strong in that sure does help. But agree…leadership, building team chemistry, galvanizing the team and aligning on goals, all of that stuff is critical, so hopefully he can bring that
It's not just the HC. A lot of other factors. Let's see how the new GM does drafting players and acquiring free agents. Also lets see what type of staff Glenn recruits. When you see successful Head Coaches they usually have excellent assistants. As far as rebuilds are concerned I've been a fan since 1960 that's 65 years I'm used to it.
Connor Hughes says to keep an eye on "Nick Caley as OC & Steve Wilks as DC" https://x.com/Connor_J_Hughes/status/1882140783417204931 Nick Caley would be first time play caller. Passing coordinator under McVey. If true, does this all sound familiar?
So does Joe Namath and his family... www.sportskeeda.com/nfl/jets-legend-joe-namath-makes-feelings-clear-aaron-glenn-signs-new-head-coach
Sounds very familiar indeed…though I like the experienced DC route…Wilks flopped as an HC but he’s been a very solid DC at several stops so sounds like a good way to go, and I also like picking a guy from the Rams offensive side of the ball…I liked the MLF hire at the time as well and still think he got scapegoated for the shitshow that was Zach, as every other QB we played seemed to do just fine in that offense, so the idea of a young up and coming creative mind for OC I like a lot. So at least on the surface, I would not cry about those two coordinators…
Cool, another guy with no head coaching experience. That’s worked out so well for us in the past, let’s do it again!
Tuna used to like some of his guys in the locker room. Not just for assistant coaches etc but players who had already bought in to help with a culture change We can use a little of that. We have a lot of guys with potential but last year was a mess and we need them focused on winning foremost Any detroit FAs who will fit that mold?
I see we get our Triangle Org chart back again too. Worked so well the first time Woody just had to try it again.
Deion sanders said there’s a handful Of teams he will not let his son play for, I’m sure we are now on top Of the list
I sure hope it all works, assuming these are the guys. Here is an article about Wilks firing by Shanahan. He did inherit #1 defense from Ryans, and had it at #3 in 2023, and they went to SB that year, though in play-offs he did have a bad game against Detroit, which they won with the offense 34-31. Then lost 22-25 in OT to KC, and Shanahan fired him. After he left the defense went from #3 to #29 in points allowed. So I would say I would welcome Wilks Some more on Caley, looks like he was offered OC job with the Patriots and also interviewed with us and Texans two years ago, but declined to go to McVey as a TE coach and last year as a passing coordinator. An interesting gamble I would say, I do like the fact he spent some time with McVey. https://x.com/AdamSchefter/status/1749057289250550215 https://www.nbcsportsboston.com/nfl...-contract-offer-offensive-coordinator/649796/
