I get it - we're Jets fans. But what if the next thing we hear from the Jets is that XX and ZZ have signed as GM and HC of the NY Jets? Yeah, some will love it; more will hate it and some will just shrug and say "show me" when they get through the draft and onto the field. One thing is certain - unless the secret number one choices are held up in the playoffs, the sooner the better.
Out of all the candidates - GM and HC - I'm only really drawn towards Halaby. I have reservations about everyone else. I just think Halaby represents something we've never had - a guy who actually looks at football in a modern way. He's not just going to regurgitate antiquated talking points that aren't backed up by data. He'd also help us land the right type of HC candidate if he's offered the GM job first. I'll be truly shocked if we hire Halaby though. He's the total antithesis of what we usually look for in GMs and HCs (which is why he'd likely be a good hire).
If Halaby even interviewed here, Woody would say something really dumb in the interview, Halaby would tell him that's dumb, and Woody wouldn't give him the job. The reason is Halaby knows he'll get other offers, so he doesn't have to kiss Woody's ass. Which means the Jets will end up with someone who's incompetent but will kiss Woody's ass.
The Jets had better be closing the deal with Halaby right now. If they START second round of GM interview next week, it would mean utter stupidity and incompetence at its worst. You already fucking talked to all good candidates in person and started this search MONTHS before anyone else. Get off your fucking ass, and close the deal before in person HC interviews start Monday so you have Halaby there from the get go. It cannot be that hard. Titans just got a really good candidate (#2 on my list) and they fired their GM like two weeks ago and don't even need to find a new coach. For us it is much more critical to have GM in place by Monday. We've been looking for months and the time is up. Get Halaby in NOW and have him interview HCs on Monday.
All I know is we need a good GM in place by Monday, ideally Halaby, so he can start interviewing the HCs in person. Anything short of that is utter failure. I mean I am all for getting more data for the new GM and HC, but not at the expense of prolonging GM process and losing good candidates, and wasting an opportunity for a GM to interview coaches in person. I would much rather have GM in place ready for in person coach interviews than spend time interviewing likes of Hafley, Ulbrich, Locksley and other pathetic scrubs. If you can do this while getting Halaby signed up before Monday, amazing. Otherwise, why the fuck are you wasting time? Again, we need a GM before first in person interview with the NFL team's HC. Halaby had better be here soon. Otherwise, what the fuck are we doing?
that ship has sailed. It is Friday evening, almost Saturday. they aren’t going to have Halaby or any GM in office Monday morning
I know, but somehow I still keep hope alive they are not as incompetent as it certainly looks like. I mean you started GM search months ago. GM can be hired any time and Titans already hired a great GM candidate. Monday you can interview NFL teams' coaches for a HC position in person. So by when does it make sense to hire a GM ? Truly this is not rocket science. I am willing to give them 3 more days to do the obvious and get a Halaby in by Monday, but if does not happen by then, it will be hard to digest this idiocy.
Warming up to Halaby. If they want to try something different, he's the guy. Signings like Zach Baun that were a home run scream analytics to me. Not that it should be the sole force driving personnel choices, but they're clearly tools that should be heavily incorporated In 2025 I don't want another former OL as GM with an "eye" for talent. Please no Grigson Remember that time he traded a 1st round pick for Trent Richardson?
Because the owner has no idea. He hires outsiders with different visions to conduct the interview process. Why hire our ex-GM to help hire our new GM? That's weird. Why not re-hire Mike Tannenbaum to GM?
I read somewhere that in Chicago, at the last game, even with all the changes pending, the chant across the stadium was “ Sell the team” sounds familiar? When you have an owner that doesn’t have a clue, the chances of success diminish by over half at least. The GM decision should have been completed and done right after the Pats stole Vrabel. Clearly this 33team is off the mark by a bunch.
Don't really think the Pats "stole" Vrabel. Vrabel likely had no intention of taking the jets job and was using the jets as leverage for the Pats job which he wanted. Only two teams now need GMs, the jets and the Raiders. I think Woody wants to be real sure that Aaron Glenn (the likely coach) has/will sign off on who will be the GM, and I still see 3 or 4 good candidates the jets could hire. as GM.
You think AG is a shoe in with the Jets? I was still hoping for Kingsbury or Monken. Hope you are right though, and that AG gets a great young OC from somewhere. This is going to be a tough division again with Vrabel on board.
I am right there with you, I just have a slight hope that because Tanny and Spielman plugged the leaks, there is a small probability we are about to sign a GM today or tomorrow and even Shefty may not know it yet. So I am giving benefit of the doubt for two more days to the 33d team, but after that it will be very clear they are off if they still don't have a GM. Monday is a clear and obvious deadline because of the in person interviews, where you want your GM to be there. If they cannot get it done by then given a head start, it's a total sham and Woody got played again.
I think you have been following this better than me, LA. I just heard that AG has told his friends he wants the jets job, and, from what I read, AG and Flores were the frontrunners. I like Kingsbury and Monken too, especially Kingsbury. I agree pats will be better but I think Miami regresses with Hill so unhappy and Tua having hip and head injuries.
If AG is our choice at HC, I would want a savvy OC calling the plays, and some one tough at DC calling the D to free Glenn from doing the top job and oversee the whole operation, establishing a culture of leadership and performance. Could May be an option at DC with Glenn there?
Hire Chris Spielman and make him the Director of Football Operations which is a role I’ve been asking for forever. We need football people in that building defining the identity of Jets football and team building strategy, coz Woody won’t that’s for sure. It should transcend the role of a GM, which is half the time a glorified scout still measuring success as if they were a scout rather than W-L. I’d prefer to pair him with an experienced HC, but I’d consider Aaron Glenn as HC if Spielman pushed for that considering he knows him well from Detroit.
Who will be working on trades, deciding on QBs, other positions, drafting, FA signings, CAP maneuvering, analytics, etc, in this model?
