We don't have a coach or a GM for months and Jets could have done their due diligence well in advance. It isn't too late for a normal franchise who ended the season with a coach but we knew we needed a new GM and a coach for a long time now. Is it dumb as a brick Woody or dumb as a wood Bricky the Harvard?
But there's still 100s of possible candidates out there and no stone will be left unturned! Let's just leave Phil Savage and Ulbrich as interims next year and see the search through into 2026. Don't want to rush anything!
I was thinking the same, then I wondered if we wanted someone who's current team is still in the play-off race. I'm really hoping its the 2nd Option and we are not going to f*ck this up again!
I have to believe the people they like are still working for a team still in contention. Either that or it's a inexplicable degree of dysfunction. The Jets leave a bad taste in the mouth. We're starting from scratch it should be a new beginning full of hope and optimisim yet they leave people scratching their heads at how they do things. The list of names HC candidates is very meh. First they have to hire the GM? If they hire a HC before the GM just more dysfunction. Why even interview HC candidates at this time? Hire a GM first let him conduct the interviews.
It's taking so long because "leadership" of the Jets is about as incompetent as they come. They can take as long as they want, for all I care. If they hire someone in the next five minutes or if they wait until March, it doesn't matter, as the end result will be the same. They're going to screw it up. The only thing to look for in all of this is the degree to which they screw it up. My money's on colossally.
We're taking so long because we don't even know what we're looking for. I doubt Woody even has clearly defined HC/GM archetypes in mind that he'd like to hire. He's just waiting for someone to blow him away in an interview. Woody knows nothing about football and is extremely gullible, especially for "football guy" types. He knows he wants stereotypical "real football guys" but that's the extent of his focus. This also explains why we're always inexplicably years behind every major league trend. By targeting these stereotypical "football guys," Woody repeatedly hires leadership with antiquated football philosophies. The game is increasingly being "solved" by guys who grew up liking math and computer science as much as football. We do not hire these types, at all. Vrabel is a good coach, but he had some comments recently that highlighted some of the misconceptions even good coaches have. He was talking about whether his teams have historically been too run-heavy on offense. Vrabel cited some stat where teams who run the ball XX+ number of times per game win more than they lose. He's mixing up cause and effect though. Teams run the ball a lot because they have big leads. They don't have big leads because they run the ball a lot (generally).
