Hate to say it but it’s going to be Arthur Smith. Look at him. Already has Jetscoach Face and he hasn’t even started yet. Supposedly Woody loves him. Makes sense, he’s the son of a self-made billionaire…
I don't know if it's possible to agree with something more than I agree with this. The guy won 12 games three consecutive years in Dallas, something the Jets have only managed to do ONCE in the entire history of the franchise. Yeah, we might end up flaming out in the playoffs and eventually get sick of that, but that is a far cry from where we are now and could go a long way towards stabilizing the franchise and bringing some respectability to it.
I'm intrigued by Kingsbury but I don't think anyone has interviewed him for HC (unless I'm mistaken). Not in the mix this cycle for some reason
Arthur Smith is one of those guys I mentioned a couple pages back that is just the worst case scenario in this hiring cycle. He’s like the tenth best choice and is only a season removed from running a failing operation. His offense also nosedived at the end of this season. So naturally I can see why we’re gravitating towards him.
He is good, but overrated. Take a look at his record without Brady. It sucks! Then take a look at Brady's record without him, and that is in past his prime Brady too. Then take a look at Arians record without Brady and then with Brady. Brady made both of these solid coaches look a lot better than they are, he just had more time with Belichick. Belichick is a solid defensive coach, nothing more and nothing less, who won the lottery when he stumbled into Brady in the 6h round of the draft.
That picture looks like it was created by Midjourney. It looks real when I zoom in, but I swear that gives me mega AI pic vibes. Utterly soul-less.
Let's not overestimate Sam in his 3d year and Rodgers in his 21st. These were not great QBs. Sam I think would have done better if he had a good OL and better offensive weapons than Perriman, but JD failed him. Rodgers with Saleh was as shell of his former self. And Gase and Saleh sucked too, don't take me wrong, but they did not have great QBs, that is a fact. This is certainly not comparable to prime Rodgers behind a good OL to protect him. With all that said, I would take McCarthy in a heartbeat. While an argument can be made he underachieved with Rodgers, he did develop Rodgers, who was a late 1st round pick, not exactly a generational QB prospect, and he did win the SB. MLF who took over didn't, even though he did have a better regular season record. I do think Mike did well with Cowboys. He even won a play-off game, and while Dak is a good QB, he is not great, so overall a solid performance by Mike in Dallas. Looks like they wanted to keep him too but could not agree on the # of years extension.
So people now rationalize McCarthy under achieved with his record, mostly due to QB play, with a record we have not sniffed in a lifetime, but they want Flores instead? Based on what? I certainly wouldn’t put him in a pedestal with Andy Reid, but he had a pretty good go with Dak at QB too, a QB I wouldn’t call top of the line. I’m not ready to make him the top choice, but he is far better than many we have been interviewing. I still hold hope for Monken, Kingsbury or Spagnuolo or Glenn.
Hiring Flores over someone respected like Mccarthy is so Woody like and will be Dejavu all over again, remember when Woody hired that guy Gase who had limited coaching experience and had limited Success in Miami as well over Mccarthy, how did that work out? This is a guy who told Tua he is a pussy and doesn't belong in the Nfl, shows how much he knows about Quarterbacks.
