I disagree on the first part but agree on the second. I think there’s some good candidates out there that we could be happy with. Still confused why no one is interviewing Bill O’Brien. He’d check all the criteria we need really.
Here's an opinion from a few days ago: Why Boise's Beloved Kellen Moore Will Never Be An NFL Head Coach
I don’t think Hurts and Prescott are great QBs so I’ve always been impressed w/ how Moore has put them in position to win a lot of games.
Neither have really been better or worse with/without Moore. Hard to credit him with a good season by Hurts this year with that insane Saquan season. Dak had the most touchdowns one year under Moore and also the most picks in his career/the league. Dak also had the best year of his career the year after Moore left and under none other than Brian Schotty. I find it interesting that he hasn’t really ever been interviewed for a head coaching spot though. I think that tells us a lot especially considering your theory on McCown getting several considerations (and I think you’re onto something there…)
He hasn’t received a big bucket of interview requests though and he’s been an offensive coordinator since 2019. He’s also coaching his third team in three years. No response to what I said?
Seems our friend Rex is opening his mouth on TV again. Quote “ Hope I get the job so I can kick his ass (Vrabel ) twice a year. Then said…just kidding.
No response to what you said because I never said anything about those QB’s having big years under Moore, just that he put them in position to win games. I appreciate the info though.
Kellen Moore was hand-selected by Jerry Jones for the CS while he was still a player and elevated very quickly to OC. I don't want that coaching the Jets. I was at the game where Ryan Fitzpatrick and the Jets beat the Cowboys with Kellen Moore starting. That has nothing to do with anything.
I don’t necessarily want him either but surprised he didn’t get an interview. Ditto for Kingsbury and Monken. Shit we’re interviewing everyone else with a pulse.
Head coaches get two lives, and Kingsbury already used up one of them. I think he wants to be a head coach again, but he can't afford to risk his last chance on the Jets.
This seems correct to me. I was thinking about the Kingsbury non-interview earlier and this is the only thing that explains it. Kingsbury is also probably thinking about Ben Johnson turning down jobs last year and having his pick of the litter this year. I generally think the whole "nobody wants to coach the Jets" thing is overblown, but we're a bad situation and top OCs have gotten increasingly comfortable waiting for a good role because they know the young OC archetype is the most in-demand type of HC candidate. This hiring cycle is tough because the only candidates I'd be truly excited about have no interest in us. We're just kind of screwed unfortunately. We're hiring during a time where the Jets are as big a circus as they've ever been and top candidates hold as much power as they ever have. It's a terrible confluence of factors for us. Just have to hope we get lucky I guess.
As much of a defensive minded person as I am I truly think we need an OC hire to be a headcoach: Kliff Kingsbury Ben Johnson Joe Brady Todd Monken Chip Kelly Liam Cowen I would love to see Kliff and Rex on the sidelines for game 1 later this year
