Agreed. It makes Woody's decision to not clean house last offseason even more frustrating. Not sure if he could have gotten Vrabel or Harbaugh to take the job, but given how much everyone in the media was going on about how great the 2024 roster was, maybe they could have convinced one of them to take the job and be the missing piece that could get the team into the playoffs. Instead, we're picking from an incredibly weak class of HC candidates.
I remember him well as a player. He was real good. Also I remember him not having much love for the Jets after he left here. I remember something about him retiring as a Texan instead of a Jet. So I'm not sold this is going to happen.
Offense is the problem the lest bazzilion years and the defense is solid, so what do you do? Hire a denfensive minded head coach so Jetsy. Al Groh, Herman Edwards, Rex Ryan, Robert Saleh , Todd Bowles , Robert Saleh, Jeff Ulbrich have all been mediocre here, lets keep the pipeline going, hire a defensive minded coach to coach this dysfunctional offense, and develop our next Qb just brilliant Woody love it! Keep hiring defensive coordinators with no coaching experiences because they impress you in a job interview because it has worked out oh so well. Rinse and repeat, rinse and repeat maybe the 10th time well get it right. If this is true Why even hire Tennabaum and the rest of the bums to get you a coach because this seems like a straight Woody hire.
This isn't madden where you can do whatever you want. It takes 2 to tango. I'm so tired of seeing people complain about this. Sent from my genius mind.
I would prefer an offensive or experienced head coach, but I also was open to Glenn. Jets need a culture change more than anything.
Neither did Vrabel, it's not really the Jets its the Woody, little Brick and AR circus they want no part of, if they only had to pick based on rosters they would definately want the job.
I actually think there are a lot of good candidates. We just haven't been looking at many of them. Joe Brady for instance just put up 30 burger on very good Denver defense, a lot of which was coming through rushing attack, not Allen being a superman. Brady is #1 guy out of everyone we looked at so far. But there is also Monken, Kingsbury, Coen we haven't even bothered with. I think think there is an opportunity here to get a great offensive play caller for years to come. But we are probably going with Aaron Glenn to get an upside of 1st round play-off exit.
We don't even have a GM yet. Yes, Glenn seems likely based on Woody's history. But I am hoping for a miracle: that we get Halaby and he changes the course of this franchise, including HC selection.
That would certainly be on the optimistic view of how this will end up. The playoff drought will continue for a while, as will our offense residing in the lower third of the league in pretty much all meaningful statistical categories. Another first time defensive coach. Next time around, I don't know why anyone who has either A) head coaching experience or B) an offensive background, would even bother to take an interview for this job. Woody has owned this team for 25 years and 23 of those years the team has been coached by a first time HC with a defensive background. The results speak for themselves.
And even the other two years it wasn't some great offensive mind he got, the got a former HC who was just fired for having a shitty offense for 4 years in a row. He remembered that 5 years before Denver had a good offense with Peyton Manning, you know second best QB all time in his prime. So, why don't we ignore last 4 years of piss poor offense and bring him in after him just being fired for sucking 5 mins ago. It wasn't even a real shot to get a true offensive wizard. At least once try someone who is successful NOW at running offense. Not someone who was successful 5 years ago with top two QB in NFL history and sucked for 4 years since and was fired for sucking. Instead we cross - tried offensive HC - off the list forever and go back to proven failed formula of a DC HC.
I think we'll see the GM first. The a HC who ties in with the GM/s philosophy on building the team. They both should be on the same page.
Making a mockery of the rule doesn’t automatically have to mean you’re a racist. It can mean you’re just an asshole.
Highly doubt it, you know Woody does things half assed and backwards, the sooner the Jets get Aaron Glenn and make backpage headlines and Aaron Glenn in and the ex Jet starts preaching the Jets gospel the sooner Woody can start selling tickets for next year.
if we are looking for a previous HC that’s offensive minded with enough on the ball who would that be. Slim pickings. So it’s either a hot OC or experienced HC. I lean towards the later, since leadership and discipline is key. I still believe Steve Spagnuolo is a serious candidate, albeit a Defensive coach.
That's all it's ever about. There's not a "better" story out there than the Jets bringing back one of their own, who played during some good times for the franchise, to try to fix it.
I disagree on the first part but agree on the second. I think there’s some good candidates out there that we could be happy with. Still confused why no one is interviewing Bill O’Brien. He’d check all the criteria we need really.
