I see some Jet fans asking Jets to trade our 1st round pick this year to Steelers for Mike Tomlin. What would you guys say about this?
We might not have to trade for him. I think they ultimately retain him but he might shake free sooner than later. I also see someone like Tomlin wanting a gap year to see how much he even wants to do this anymore if he’s let go or “available.” Doing this for 17 straight years from 36 to 52 has to be incredibly stressful.
I think he might be like Andy Reid. When Reid was let go I wanted Jets to go for him but nope. Chiefs were smart to take him right away. I see Tomlin in similar fabric. So maybe he will want a fresh start somewhere.
This. Tomlin is gonna end up winning SB’s elsewhere. PIT fans wanted him gone even back when he won the SB. I visit PIT often, it’s obvious why most there don’t like him.
The Jets first rounders in the last decade have been Leonard Williams, Darron Lee, Jamal Adams, Sam Darnold, Quinnen Williams, Mekhi Becton, Zach Wilson, Alijah Vera-Tucker, Sauce Gardner, Garrett Wilson, Jermaine Johnson, Will McDonald, and Olu Fashanu. A case can be made that Tomlin would have been worth a decade's worth of Jets first rounders.
Because some franchises and its fans actually value winning championships and not just being slightly above .500 and getting bounced in the first round.
unlike the jets the Steelers have had 3 coaches in unlike the jets the Steelers have had 3 coaches in the last 60 years, they pick their coaches and roll with them forever, Tomlin ain’t going anywhere
In no way am I comparing the Jets organization and its fans to the Steelers. Hell, we haven't been above .500 in a decade. I'd take that in a heartbeat.
You have a point. Having said that I generally like draft picks to lottery tickets with some small amount of skill and a lot of luck. 1st round picks are more skill and less luck based than later round but it's still a lottery. But you can't win a lottery if you don't play. Patsies look like they won the lottery this year with Maye even though their first round drafting has been worse than ours recently. That's why I wouldn't necessarily give up a first. But if that is what it takes, and if you think Tomlin is really the guy, then yeah sure.
Because they are idiots. No recent SB is now equivalent to Browns and Jets level in some fans eyes. Tomlin has proven to be great with a QB, and above average without a QB. They never suck, they don't do dumb stuff, and when players become a problem they are gone. Id love to see that with us.
He's not leaving the Steelers to come to this hot mess. Also I don't know how I'd feel about him coming here. He'd bring instant credibility for sure but do the Steelers win because of him? Would he be able to lift the Jets out of the morass they've been in for so long? I can say that about Jim Harbaugh. I don't know. I think the Steelers have a way of doing things they've been doing it for a very, very, very long time and with or without Tomlin as their HC they'll compete they'll win. I believe. I don't know but a Tomlin at HC wit Rodgers back in 2025 would greatly peak my interest.
Not this year's #1 too high a pick. We need it. A future #1 I'd consider. If he comes here and it works out that #1 will be at or near the bottom of the first round.
Getting Tomlin as coach is also like a lottery. Worst case he makes the Jets better but not by that much. Best case is he completely turns them around. I'm not saying the Jets should actually trade a decade's worth of first rounders for him, but a couple first rounders I'd do. Doesn't matter though becuase no way are the Steelers trading him.
Glenn turning into Tomlin is like a hyped first round QB actually being elite. It's possible but it's probably not going to happen.
Tomlin had less experience than Glenn when he was hired. So back in 2006 you would've said it probably wouldnt happen for Tomlin either... I see lots of similarities in how they focus on developing their players and less on trying to be the smartest man in the room with their schemes.
