Bullet dodged! I guess all that campaigning didn't work after all. Perhaps he's finally learned to keep his mouth shut and let things play out. Nah.....
Honestly boss, even though I am happy he won't be the HC, I think he is not being appreciated enough by Jets fans. Yes the guy had flaws but he also gave us our biggest success in last 25 years.
15 year ago yes, I am very appreciative of what he did. I love Rex, he is a legend of the Jets. But today he is not a serious HC candidate, it's just a fact. The guy failed for the Jets in the end and also in Buffalo plus was out over a decade. I mean all due respect to him for great years decades ago, but today he is just not a real HC option. This is no disrespect to the guy at all.
I also didn't want him to be our HC and very happy with this decision. My issue is with some fans calling him a clown etc. The guy gave us 4 road play off wins and I think he deserves some respect thats all.
Man, I have to admit that I was kind of excited about the disaster possibilities of a new Rex Ryan Era. But I'll trade that for something resembling competent football if that is a realistic possibility.
I'll always have respect for Rex for the AFC championship years, but his words about wanting to be a coach again didn't match his actions. If he really wanted to be a coach, there are teams who would have hired him as a defensive coordinator after the Bills fired him. And maybe he could have done a good enough job as a coordinator to get a third chance, since his time with the Jets wasn't a total failure. But his ego would never let him settle for a coordinator job after being a head coach, so he went into TV instead. He's a good fit for TV, but he has no business coaching again in the NFL.
Very well said. If he was putting in the work as a coach, keeping current connections and relationships around the league, ensuring his schemes are staying modern, it wouldn't be out of the question. This definitely just feels like a big ego thing and a lot of superficial, rah-rah energy. Even his arrogance about his certainty they're gonna pick him is so off-putting. It's concerning they even gave him an interview. Glad it sounds like he's not a serious contender though
I want two specific qualities for the next head coach of the New York Jets 1) Real NFL Head Coaching Experience. Not college head coach experience, or NFL OC or DC experience. I want someone who understands what it takes to be an NFL Head Coach. 2) The candidate WANTS to coach the New York Jets. This is not a chance for a promotion, or a chance to get in the limelight to move on to bigger things. The candidate wants to be here and stay here. If you can name someone who meets the qualifications better than Rex Ryan, I am all ears. Until then, he is my definitive choice.
