The second Mayo was fired everyone knew this. Vrabel is a Patriot guy and a personal friend of Kraft. I personally feel he is a solid coach but overrated. He was not top 5 on my list of this cycle. It would have been a lot worse if Ben Johnson came to NE, but we dodged a bullet there. Unless Drake becomes a star QB, as long as we can get a good GM and coach ourselves, we should be OK with Vrabel in the division.
On one hand casting a wide net and keeping an open mind sound like decent approaches, but at some point (and maybe we're getting there now) it could start to feel like they don't know what they're looking for and interviewing whoever they can
Its obvious what happened here. Vrabel was coaching the Titans. Kraft already allegedly had told Mayo he was next up after Belichick during the season. Season ends and Belichick is fired but so is Vrabel. Kraft had already made his promise to Mayo so he hired him. After one year he fires him and hires Vrabel. Once again the decision to keep Saleh last offseason proves to further be a mistake as Vrabel was available, which was an obvious upgrade from Saleh. Personally I think Vrabel is a good coach but he hasn't proven to be a great coach. He inherited a Titans team that was in the playoffs and then slowly the team eroded into a losing team. (Similar to Rex but actually worse).
Vrabel didn't do anything impressive in Tennessee. He inherited a team that was coming off a playoff win. That division has been a joke since Peyton left. The Titans won by default a few years but only one year did damage in the playoffs. As the years went on the team went from being a playoff team to a losing team. He still has a lot to prove IMO, definately not someone like Reid or Harbaugh going to New England.
Not for nothing, but I LOVE that Glenn saw through the NE farce and declined the interview…he knew it was a sham interview and didn’t want to waste his time. That I respect!
I agree with this. I said a couple posts back that Johnson is the brain and Campbell is the heart. Reminds me of Martz and Vermeil with the late 1990s Rams. No idea if Johnson will make a great head coach, or if Campbell will continue to win with Johnson gone. But Glenn is a distant third wheel.
Vrabel to the Patriots is bad news for the Dolphins; I could see the Patriots coming in second next year and getting McDaniel fired.
Funny how we could of had vrabel last year 100 percent instead we rolled with baldy who got fired anyways, now we are gonna settle for another defensive coordinator who in turn is rinse and repeat of what this demented organization has been doing for the last quarter century, just proof that woody Johnson is the worst owner in nfl history
Is it? Where were the impartial reporters claiming that Saleh and Douglas did things the right way? Saleh wasn't interviewed talking about mutual respect and working one on one with players; he was spouting dumbass slogans instead! All things I've seen point to Ben Johnson as a great guy with the Xs and Os but the discussion of him having great relationships with players is missing. More important than that, Ben Johnson is a non starter, talking about him is an exercise in futility - he doesn't want to be part of the New York Jets organization.
What panic ? We're getting our 4th or 5th choice...if we are lucky. I doubt we get a better coach than Saleh.
