I'm surprised we aren't interviewing Pete Carroll. Josh McCown intrigues me. Either boom or bust but he's going to be another Kevin O'Connell type of coach. He was a great mentor here and has helped turn Darnold into an all pro in Minnesota this year. Aaron Glenn could be good but I think the Saints might have the upper hand. Flores is OK. He's been successful with Pittsburgh and Minnesota after leaving Miami but I don't trust him on the offensive side of the ball. He doesn't seem like a uniter. It would be interesting to be a fly on the wall in that interview.
They are hopelessly flawed puzzle pieces that would never survive in a football mecca like North Jersey.
Looks like Vrabel to NE will be done soon, according Shultz from the Bleacher Report. Seems like what we all thought would happen, will indeed happen. Looking at Tomlin today, I really want an offensive coach. Tomlin is as good a defensive coach as you can get and he even has a decent OC. But without HOF QB in his prime, even he can't win a play-off game to save his life. It may sound crazy after not making play-offs for 14 years, but I want to have an upside to compete like 49ers, Philly, Rams, even without necessarily HOF QB in his prime. For that you need a great offensive play caller, and to get one who will stay you need to pick off a great OC from another team and make him a HC. If Tomlin can't get it done with a pretty good roster and a solid OC, what hope is there for another DC type without top QB? Call Monken and lets get going.
I agree…Tomlin last won a playoff game in 2016…that’s crazy. For sure you need a QB to have any kind of consistent success. I’m kind of warming up to Josh McCown a bit…not sure really what to think as he’s never been an HC or even an OC, right? So the whole thing will be new to him. There are a lot of demands on an HC outside of the sideline decisions on game day, and that worries me with such a raw candidate who’s never had to do it. But you never know, sometimes you catch lightning in a bottle. I’d be ok with an interview there and see where it goes. You’d have to get him some seasoned DC who can kind of fill the gaps there…in the older days that would have been a guy like Wade Phillips…great DC/sounding board, not so great HC. Not sure who would be able to take that role today…Spags would be great but that’d be a lateral move away from a great team so no way he does it…but someone like that. Of course, I still want to see us interview Monken, Kingsbury, etc. Not sure why neither guy is on the list so far…just boggles my mind that they STILL can’t realize this league is about offense
Can someone explain to me why we are interviewing 1000 different people at this point? As if that was the problem in the past. We just didn't have a big enough talent pool to pick from In years past, is that it? Feels like to me this would only make things more murky for our "special" owner.
No to Flores he is literaly Adam Gase 2.0, 1 good season with Miami(if you consider 9-8 good), limited coaching experiences, and a major dick, he is also another defensive coach, why keep hiring defensive coaches when our offensive has sucked ass for god knows how long? Offensive minded coach or bust.
This is the same logic that got Douglas and Saleh hired. Coming from a winning organization, saying the right things to the media, and getting the media to write nice stories about you don't translate into winning games once you're out of the cradle of said winning organization. If you want to win, you have to get the guy responsible for the winning, and that's pretty clearly Ben Johnson, not Aaron Glenn.
I'll take Rich Kotite before signing up for Brian Flores. Lousy person, lousy attitude, backstabber, can't recognize QB talent -- what could go wrong ?
I think one of the things the league is going to find as the vultures arrive in Detroit to try to pick that franchise apart and use the pieces to replicate its success elsewhere is that the guy who is responsible for the winning is Dan Campbell. He's a great leader and has that team playing out of its mind, even with the absurd number of injuries they're currently dealing with. That's not to say that Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn won't go on to be good head coaches, because that's certainly possible, but I think that there's going to be a lot of disappointed people in whichever city those two (and whoever else leaves for promotions) land in because I just don't see this thing being replicated without Campbell.
I think most of us said when this all started, that we need a coach with experience. As much as Glenn is intriguing (still a high choice for me), I think the wisest choice would be Spagnuolo.
You really think that Ben Johnson would accept an interview with the Jets? The Jets will get a head coach that literally has no other options to coach elsewhere.
Its stupid. I think Friday they interviewed like 5 GM candidates and who knows how many HC candidates on top of that. what was it 5 minute interviews?
Well they can’t have anyone working for an organization in person yet so they’re probably hour long Zoom calls.
Shoutout to JD... We haven't had a serviceable line for 5 years of his tenure until this year. But did you notice how the Ravens lost Moses and Simpson to us, who were solid for us, and still have a good OL? We need a good OC, and developing and having a solid OL is a large part of it along with bringing in talent. This is another reason why we need a good offensive HC.
