@SOXXX2 MLF got hired after 1 year and his team didn't even made play-offs. They went 9-7, but the offense was good, and GB saw a young guy with connections and good leadership skills who can call the offense himself and made him a HC. If Josh is any good, we will lose him quickly. And then what - Flores whom everyone hates around the League, and who thought Ben Johnson sucked and fired him, will be looking for a great offensive mind? We are screwed long term regardless. And if Josh is not good and offense sucks, we will suck either way. Again, if you think Josh as a good OC, make him a HC, let him call plays and get an experienced DC to compliment. Then there is serious upside, albeit not without risk.
I might give Glenn the job and ff this alone. https://x.com/tompelissero/status/1877477462809948495?s=46
My point is the logic of the Rooney Rule is to push minority head coaches rather than just hiring the best possible coach. The rule has not helped teams because not a single minority head coach hired over the past 15 years since 2009 has won a Super Bowl for their team despite the NFL pushing a rule to push diversity. Hire the best (whatever color who cares), not hire based on race or push diversity. Get rid of the rule.
Or perhaps there just werent as many good minority head coaches as evident by the lack of success of minority head coaches over the past 15 years despite the NFL pushing for diversity and have a higher proportion of minority coaches. Perhaps the NFL owners were actually indeed right, and were simply hiring the best and it was only disproportionate to those who view everything based on race.
We fundamentally disagree with the interpretation of the rule. From my perspective it’s not meant to push the hiring of minority candidates; it’s meant to get them in front of those w/ the power to hire. What they do in that interview room ultimately determines whether they get hired.
Something tells me A Glenn will be HC sooner than anyone else. I love him as a person, not sure I understand why people think Detroit defenses were all that stout.
Fair enough, either way its out of our controls anyways so. Im not against McCown but I would say we need someone to come in here and put the locker room on notice. I think McCown could get ruined here. This is not a normal environment. These players dont respect the coaches thanks to the culture established by Saleh.
Agreed. The more the conversation continues around Flores, the less I find myself really wanting to go down that route. McCown, though, seems like an interesting choice. While I don't love any of the choices that the Jets have put out there so far, some are much worse than others, and I do find myself being intrigued by the possibility of McCown as the HC. At least it would be a hire on the offensive side of the ball, which would make it more appealing after 2 decades of almost exclusively defensive hires.
The success or lack thereof of minority candidates only matter if one is hiring based on race. Again for the umpteenth time the rule is meant to get guys in the door and sell themselves. There’s no mandate to hire minorities just give them interviews.
Glenn is awesome. They should hire him but I don’t think Woody is patient enough, he’s got another month of football in him at detroit
Is it weird that the pats haven’t hired vrabel already? And they are still asking for interviews(Glenn)?
That's way too long, Woody needs headlines, they are they only thing that can sustain him... other than cocktails made from bile from the gall bladder of an albino street sweeper from Kolkata named Yogesh.
