https://theplayoffs.news/en/too-man...hree-point-barrage-amidst-falling-viewership/ Thoughts? IMO the sport has gone down hill hard over the past few years, I definately do not watch it anywhere as much as I used to. Durant going to Golden State was where it shifted for me. That killed the sport for a few years and was a complete disgrace. The pushing of the politics by the NBA also is a major turn-off, just stick to sports please. The 3 point shot has become the dominant method of success now. The rest-management stuff also is pushing people away. The regular season is a complete joke. They added the extra playoff spots and essentially killed the regular season. The list goes on and on and on for the NBA despite have more parity in terms of champions (6 straight years with 6 different champs).
The best season of late was the 50ish games in ...2011? Or 2012? That made every game matter more. Shorten the season
I forgot about that year when the season was shorter. They should implement byes for the top 2 teams or something. Incentivize teams to play the regular season harder. Also make the first round like best of 3 or 5. The last good regular season IMO was the year the Warriors won 73 games. Then Durant them and no one took the regular season seriously since then because it didn't matter.
Regular season basketball has become such a lazy ass game. The playoffs are still pretty good. You hit everything pretty good but missed that basically any time someone drives to the lane it’s a shooting foul. Isn’t this season even worse too? I thought I saw down 25% year over year although the NHL is down too. The NBA Cup is silly. Not sure why they thought putting up large sums of cash for these guys that are already quite rich would entice people to watch more.
My dad always said "these guys just use all the games before Christmas as just warmup practice to get back in playing shape..."
They should play an outdoor game at Rucker park or something cool. The NHL does their fair share of outdoor games, baseball is starting to do cool things like the field of dreams game. Besides “street ball” would be fun to watch, especially if they ref it that way …(but that’s probably too much to ask!)
They could also put a limit on the number of 3 pointers you are allowed to attempt. Something like after your 30th attempt it only counts for 2 points… then they would play a more balanced game that I think people like. just some ideas I had
Or they could just have real referee calls. Not having a complete shift in what is being called after every halftime would be exciting.
I've barely watched the Celtics this year, I'll usually have an nba game on my 2nd screen but barely pay attention. I honestly don't care with the "politics." I personally find it weird if someone having "end hate" on their jersey bothered them, but some are more effected by this. I think it's 2 things: 1. NBA players don't care about the regular season until the new year, so why should fans? About 80 percent of the NBA, champs included, just chill until January and then start playing a mildly more competitive brand of basketball. 2. Threes. It's made offense cookie cutter and you are watching games where the teams miss over half their shots a game. It's not fun most of the time. When a player has an open dunk and passes out for a three, that's not very enjoyable. First one, I'm not sure how they fix that. But I think pushing back the three point line is inevitable. Pushing out the restricted zone would be a neat experiment also.
The modern nba player would pussy-fy this idea and it would be a pseudo nba game. Nobody is taking a hit in pavement. They would have to build a wood court.
I’m not going to make this whole thread political but acting like the whole politicization of sports is as simple as an “end hate” phrase on jerseys is ignorant as hell and I think you know that too. Part 2 & 3 - why not push the NBA season out two months? No one cares about anything in the sports world other than football during football season. I think the players would be more invested if the fans were early in the season. Also - maybe reduce the regular season slightly. Move it down to 72. Imagine a NBA season that just kicks off on January 1st as football is slowing down and the finals at the end of July before NFL training camp? The NBA officially lost Christmas this year, so move on.
Yeah just generalizing the first point to not derail. I just don't care enough but I know it bothers a lot of people. 2 and 3, that would be great but owners aren't giving up revenue until it becomes life or death. Bleacher seats at MSG go for over 250 bucks even this early. I really think the 3 will get pushed back first out of anything.
