His downfall is his drafting and talent evaluation. He’d wouldn’t have that problem here, he’d walk into a loaded jets roster.
This is the same thinking that has this Jets team where it is now. This roster has serious flaws. The idea that we're just a coach away is just as laughable as the idea that we were just a QB away was the last two seasons.
He’s got, at most, 3 years left in the tank. There’s no way that’s enough time to get this team turned around!
He never wanted to come here to turn us around but set us back another 10 years, so when he is sat in his rocking chair in his dotage he could have laughed about screwing us over twice. I'm just shocked that Woody said no, so I'm going to suggest his advisors told him to say no or the fans would quite possibly revolt.
I disagree that the roster has serious flaws. This year, it’s loaded imo. There’s plenty of talent there to win and make the playoffs.
This would also be a complete waste of the Jets' time and also give other candidates even more reason to look at the Jets in a negative light.
How much more do you think there is? We’re already the job that will guarantee your failure no matter what you do…
I would think that, if they ever want to climb out of this pit they've dug themselves, that alienating every potential HC and GM candidate by trolling the supposed GOAT HC through a fake interview process aimed at settling a decades long grudge might not be the way to go. I mean, someone has to coach this team to a 4-13 record next year.
Woody should have hired BB, and then announced that he was firing him as “h.c. of the nyj” at his introductory press conference.
Think about it, dude. There's no way that guy called and was legitimately looking for a job with this team.
I don't think anyone is saying he can't coach. I think most agree he was a solid defensive coach. But let's not overrate him either. He had very limited success in 11 seasons without Brady and something like 84-103 record, winning 1 play off game and making play-offs twice. Brady, on the other hand, even when already old and diminished, went to another team with losing record and made that coach look every bit as good as Belichick. I get the argument that he didn't have a good QB, but his record without Brady is worse than Rex Ryan, who also didn't have a good QB. A good defensive coach, like Rex, and many others. Plus 72 years old. Which is why no one wanted him in the NFL and he is forced to coach in College. I do not think Woody is the sharpest knife in the drawer, but telling Bill to go fuck himself was a smart move.
BB deserves credit for Brady’s development and it’s dead, dead wrong to say no one in the NFL wanted him. there was like 6 real openings, and he interviewed with 1. So those small group of teams wanted something different but it’s wrong to say based on that that “no one” wanted him
Yes but it’s strange, no? Here is a guy who is sure fire HOF…so many Superbowls, so many wins, etc. Why did he not get any serious consideration? Because he’s old? Because he’s a surly personality? Because seems like many people attributed all that success to Brady more so than him? I’m not saying that he isn’t an all time great coach, but I wonder why, in a league where mediocre guys like Gase, or Denis Allen, or Raheem Morris, or Todd Bowles…guys like that get more chances, someone with Bill’s resume doesn’t. Just odd…
The answer is because he took the North Carolina job instead. He likely would've been the top candidate this hiring cycle
