This makes absolutely no sense for either party.

I'll give him two years before he's fired.

I give BB credit - he is totally upfront in his belief that college football is turning into a minor league for the NFL, and he was very explicit about that on McAfee's show yesterday. I do think that that is the ultimate end game for college football, but I don't see it being bottom up this way - I think the NFL will ultimately call the shots. I wonder if UNC would even bother enrolling the players in classes?

There's no reason to believe his skillset will translate to college, he's washed anyway, and unless he wins a lot of games, he's going to piss off everyone in the program.

You mean he’s coaching to where football is going?

This is just strange. I figured Belichick would prefer to advance his career in upper management or retire. I'm surprised he's going to coach on the lower level now.

There's more money and less headaches. He won't have to deal as much with player egos, he can just treat them like children and robots. He's been listening to Saban for years about the deal he has in Bama.

And he likes them college girls. He gets older and they stay the same age!

When I heard him say that, I thought UNC would run immediately. While it’s a cute idea, the focus of colleges in terms of football is to win games and make money - that’s it. Despite what Deion Sanders and some of the other fake college football coaches say, the school does not give a damn about “making boys into men” and “preparing them for life” and all that other nonsense. They want to make money and win. If they can help some kids WHILE doing that then great, but if your focus is to only do that and suckle at the tit of the nfl, I would greatly question whether you know what’s actually going on here. I don’t get it

Yeah, at least Mangione kept his manifesto to three pages.

Somehow, North Carolina will beat the Jets next year.

This does add a new wrinkle though. Zero UNC players will agree to be drafted by the Jets for the foreseeable future.

Given how odd this whole idea seems, I have to think that BB still wasn't getting the kind of interest he'd hoped to get from NFL people. Sitting out one year is one thing, but it would seem that he wasn't getting the "wink, wink, nod, nod" from owners and GMs that they were looking forward to talking to him at the end of the season.

I make no claim that this is an original thought - all of the ESPN talking heads are saying it. Unlike them, however, I'm not mystified by it. Given his history of poor roster building (especially in recent years), not playing well with others, record without Tom Brady, and age, it makes perfect sense to me why people wouldn't want to hire him. Basically, the only kind of team that I could see wanting him is one that is Super Bowl ready, other than underachieving in the postseason for reasons that could be attributed to poor coaching, where he could go for two years, pass Shula in wins, and get a Super Bowl. Who is that? I might have thought the Eagles, but Sirianni seems to have turned the perception of himself around for the moment. The Ravens have consistently underperformed in the playoffs, but the blame there seems to go to Jackson, not Harbaugh. The Chargers might have been a good landing spot, but they got (the other) Harbaugh.

I think he probably got the interest, just not the desired terms. Nobody wants to give this guy the control (and probably an ownership stake) that he wants until he proves he can do it without Brady.

I saw the McAfee interview and noticed a slight eyeroll when he mentioned "recruiting limitations". I wonder how much murder he'll get away with.
