Way easier to find a good Lt than a generational talent Te.

Well the Jets haven't managed this since Ferguson retired despite spending lots of draft capital and cap space on the position.

FWIW, the Raiders are worse than the Jets.

This is all god and well and easy to chirp about now that Bowers has put up great numbers. But we have had multiple “generational TE” talents served up in the past that aren’t generational at all. Kyle Pitts, TJ Hockenson, OJ Howard, Eric Ebron…. The chances of a “generational” TE actually becoming generational are slim, and the right move time and again is to take an OT.

some those guys didn't even have half the resume of Bowers though coming in. Oj Howard wasn't even a 1st team conference player. Bowers is the first player ever to win the Mackey award for best TE twice, making him "generational" coming into the draft

OJ Howard was just hype by interweb "football experts"...

I think I need to reiterate, he broke the single season rookie TE receptions record in week 14 catching passes from Gardner Minshew, Aidan O'Connell and Desmond Ridder.

    Wasn't even scouted.

You’re trying to look at it simply as positional value rather than looking at the players and prospects themselves.

Georgia’s offense also sorta sucks this year without him. They finished the regular season leading the nation in drops.

Is he a good blocker? If not, then he's just a solid wide receiver and not generational.

It is impressive - but he has also been targeted more than any other TE (only Kelce and McBride are even close in terms of number of times thrown to as a TE) if you get thrown to all the time you're going to get a lot of receptions (not saying he doesn't looking really good but still)

All I will say is we found a LT for the next decade. I’m moving on from this topic as we have many holes to fill (TE included) now ;)

I think he holds his own, he's probably not pancaking guys out there.

Jeremy Ruckert had a drop yesterday. Yeboah jumped offsides on 3rd down, immediately after the Dolphins jumped, so it negated their mistake

Yeah, our GM fucked up and was fired. That bald motherfucker Brock is a player for another team now, who cares?

Olu continues to play well though, that is good news.

None of this is hindsight analysis though. Tons of us were pounding the table for Bowers all offseason. It was blatantly obvious he was going to be extremely good.

For me at this point Olu the player on the field and Olu the draft decision are two separate things. I'll be great if Olu turns into an above average or better player, but this will always another in a long line of elite players that the Jets have passed on for need.

Sure, but he's also near the top in a bunch of other stats. He gets thrown at a lot because he's really good, especially after the catch. His game has translated perfectly from what he did well in college.

that's good to know - I just couldn't get swayed totally by the number of receptions as he seems to be pretty much their only target (well, with some to Jakobi Myers) :)
