So the jets lost this season to 2 QB's they drafted who now play for other teams. It happens. Got me to thinking about JD's drafts, which surely have been enumerated before. Most posters were highly in favor of the JD hire, and I include myself. his tenure started with Darnold as QB. the Jets have gone backwards from that point. Here is a list of drafted players under JD. I doubt if Woody had much to say about drafts. Becton Mims Ashtyn davis Zuniga Perine James morgan Cameron clark Bryce hall Braden mann ZW AVT Elijah moore Michael carter (rb) Sherwood Michael carter (db) Pinnock Nasirildeen Echols Johnathan marshall Gardner Wilson JJ Breece hall Ruckert Max mitchell Clemons Mcdonald Tippman Warren Izzy Barnes Converse Kuntz Plus 2024 which is a work in progress (7 players) How many of these 40 are quality? If success is built on the draft, no wonder we have gone backwards
I think we can agree that I am very disappointed that Kuntz failed to make it as a guy worthy of a name on my shirt. Gutted tbh
yup. my point was why have we gone backwards? No other team has such a dismal 5 year record. caching, ownership, all play a part, a very big part. but once on the field, its up to the players to perform. pretty much every team has the same physical characteristics in their players, big, strong, fast, whatever. so what separates the good from the ordinary or bad. I don't know and neither did JD. We just never got enough quality together at the same time.
Even if this team gets a top 3 draft, it s not going to help them immediately. They are still years away from contending in playoffs and need a lot of help on both sides of the ball. The only bright spots are WRs and McDonald. Of course they need a new GM and a new HC. they should look for a QB.
We’re already getting Tannenbaum back, it’s not only that people want it, they’re getting it! Let that sink in , Mike Tannenbaum is assisting this team to find a GM. We’re actually paying him money to do that. And there’s Jets fans that actually support this. That’s how far gone this franchise has become.
On thing that jumps out to me from that list, is that some of the players looked promising early on. Some were even heavily touted on this site as having had good rookie years. They all seemed to quite fade away. Is that because of bad coaching, or do we, as fans, routinely overestimate players at the start of their careers? I remember Bryce Hall, Michael Carter (RB) and Clemens getting a lot of favourable talk on here. Were they really just mediocre-to poor players or did our coaches fail to develop them?
I suspect it's the players. There are quite a number of ex jets on other teams, and I don't think any of them are really shining. Also, we ave taken players from other teams and they have performed well for us..reed,Williams. So I come down on the player selection to begin with
People point to darnold and geno, but they didn't do all that well with their teams after the jets. But I am not defending the coaches, our offensive stuff has been miserable for years, fir which I blame the staff
You are here every day and you need to ask that? There are far too many here that buy every bit of hype, even when it comes straight from the BS tout factory of the NY Jets. PT Barnum may have collaborated with HG Wells in looking at Jets fans. Heading into the 2021 combine and draft after reading all the premature accolades and irrational exuberance I kidded that the NFL tailor would be present to measure up Wilson for a gold jacket. Even today the talk is about when to draft a franchise quarterback when no such thing is possible. The intent should always be to find the most likely guy to be a consistently winning quarterback and if he should be destined to build that into getting the franchise sobriquet wait until then to celebrate. Of course, those my words were directed towards have slunk off into the mist. They're the ones who demand all jump on their bandwagon because they refused to accept the reality of the Jets. So, yes and no, we as fans have varied expectations, some based more in being cheerleaders, some much more willing to wait to celebrate until reason arises.
This is what they should be focused on first in the draft. Focus hard on the O-line at first and then build out from there. You know, kind of like Douglas said he was going to do just somehow never got around to it during six years at the helm.
well he did. look at the list. plus numerous free agent/trade OL. For the most part they never had a prime or were past it. It is a quality., not quantity issue.
