I posted my plan. I’d rather look forward than complain. To say we should only sign veteran journeyman man QBs from now on because the fan base (which was blamed first) and then the ownership (blamed second) is just dumb and whiney. Coaching wise, I’d bring Ben Johnson, Aaron Glenn, Vrabel & Bill O’Brien in for interviews to start. GM wise I’d bring in Ray Agnew (Lions), Terrence Gray (Bills), Joe Hortiz (Ravens), Will McClay (Cowboys), among some others.
The fan base plus woody cannot handle a rookie QB. Bring in a vet. DO NOT DRAFT A QB to start right away. Bring in Vets and maybe have a young QB develop out of the spotlight.
That’s just goofy sour grapes that reeks of your former Zach Wilson defense as if it’s the fan bases fault that he failed.
Absolutely not. We already tried a non-playcalling OC who rode the coattails of the coach and QB and then faceplanted when he had to do it himself. We don't need Hackett 2.0.
I am referring to choosing him as the OC…. And the only way I’d consider it is if Ben Johnson was the new HC Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Surprised at the amount of people saying “no first time head coaches.” McDermott, Campbell, Shannahan, McVay, Ryans, Tomlin, O’Connell, Harbaugh etc were all first time head coaches when hired. In fact, pretty much all of the best head coaches in the league (except Reid and other Harbaugh) were first time hires.
Bieniemy lasted 1 year as Commanders OC and was fired. He then lasted 1 year as UCLA OC and was fired. Why on earth would we want to hire him? He also had a billion OC and HC interviews before finally getting his shot in Washington and quickly proving why no one else wanted to hire him.
The Jets chose Hackett as the OC. But sure if Ben Johnson is HC and really wants Bieniemy for some reason, then he can hire him. In that case, when the HC is the one running the offense, the OC doesn't really matter. But Bieniemy doesn't belong in any role of importance.
If we got Johnson and Ray Agnew I’d literally be jumping for joy. That’s an absolute dream situation. I doubt Agnew would leave but maybe another Lions FO staffer that was in the trenches with Agnew. my only worry about Glenn is that our defence personnel is a pure zone scheme type players. He runs heavy man to man. The D would take years to overhaul that personnel
Who is a heavy zone player though? Sauce is better suited for a man scheme. Reed is probably gone. I’m good with MCII being manned up. I don’t think you worry about the scheme fit with personnel when hiring a coach really. If they’re a good coach they’ll make it work but I don’t really see any issues playing man to man defense here.
Yes, because Smith, whom he also found and did well for him, got a HC opportunity. Vrabel has shown he will go as far as his OC will take him, and he has a record of finding both good and bad ones. I personally would not go that route. I think it is a lot easier to find a keep a good DC than a good OC. Therefore I want someone who can call plays on offense, and Vrabel is not it.
Yeah, I can see that, too...but this team needs a hard edged coach, and I think, like Belichick had with Goodell, he would have a chip on his shoulder.
