What about Taylor? He's under contract next year as well. I didn't see any mention, so not sure if you're cutting him, if there's an opt out, or you just missed him.
I’d cut him if he’s cuttable. There’s no upside with Taylor IMO. By signing Jameis you’re trying to find a Baker, Darnold, Geno type of revival if you protect him. He made some boneheaded throws last night but threw for almost 500 yards last night against a defense that gives up like 225/game and leads the league in sacks. You’re getting 15/22 for 154 yards, 1TD with Taylor as a ceiling. He’s a good backup and all but I’d want to see if you can get some flare.
Believe me, I'm not defending him or stating he should be there, but he does have another year on his contract so is just wondering what you do with him. I don't know if it's guaranteed, let me go look.....looks like 2.5M is guaranteed in 2025.
Interesting point. Makes sense and I'd be open to Jameis. Might be a little soon, but I think Justin Fields could have a career trajectory like that one day. He already looked better in Pittsburgh and with Russ entrenched as the starter for the immediate future I would doubt he'd want to resign
Can we start by canning that turd of an owner? Nothing gets done right with Woody at the helm. But then - Woody would see the team burnt down to ashes before he would even consider selling the team - so we're fucked, I suppose?
I appreciate the effort and agree with alot, but there’s zero chance of getting Winston or any QB to start here for 5m a season. Tyrod Taylor got 12m for 2 years to be the backup. However many years ago we paid Ryan Fitzpatrick over 10m a year. Winston will cost between 10m-20m per season.
Winston is not getting anywhere near $20m a season. Or probably even real a multi year commitment deal either. Other then drafting a QB instead of filling another building block need with that 3rd round pick I generally like the OP plan. The problem with that approach to my understanding is that if they keep him around for 2025 the dead charge cap hit for the following year then goes to $63 million. Which then has us debating whether to potentially spread that out into 2027. Just easier and a lot less messy overall to absorb the $49m cut cost on him for next year, and then be done with it. Especially for a new regime coming in.
Fair and no huge disagreement here although he hasn’t exactly gotten huge deals in the last. https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/player/_/id/16725/jameis-winston I think when I did the calculations of $47 million, it didn’t include Q’s restructure or any others. I think you can easily accommodate $15 million/year with this plan. It’s pretty difficult to analyze contract value in December lol.
I think it’d take about 12m per 2 seasons plus incentives that can bring it to 20m per, likely ending up around 15m. Next season is about being entertaining while rebuilding. Winston fits that mold
Going with a proven loser vet at QB like Winston is just delaying winning by another year. Attempting to get a franchise qb should be the number 1 priority, for every team, every year.
Show me what franchise QB the Jets are getting picking around 6 through 10 or in free agency? The Bills got to their franchise QB after a bridge. This is a bad year for QB’s in the draft.
That’s certainly the range to either stick and pick a qb or move up. Plenty of teams get their QBs there, not sure what you mean. Not like you’re in the teens. The bills got Allen at 7 and they moved up from 21.
I see one franchise QB in this draft and I don’t think he makes it past 3. I don’t think the Jets have any sort of capital to move up without creating a disastrous roster situation so we bridge now and live to fight another day at QB.
Shedeur and Cam are going top 10, and there’s still Milroe, Nussmeier, Ewers, Allar, Beck etc. Milroe should go in the first somewhere and then it’s anyone’s guess this early as to the rest.
I don’t really care where players are projected to be drafted. I’m telling you my opinion of the draft and the believe of how many QBs are surefire franchise players. There’s a difference in projections of franchise QBs versus who will be a franchise QB.
Lol. Ok, let’s get the word out: NO ONE EVEN TRY DRAFTING A QB, JONATHAN_VILMA ON THE JETS FORUM SAYS THERE ARE NONE!! Case closed I guess.
No, now you’re just being a douchebag. You’re indicating that you think you keep taking first round QB’s no matter what you think their future ability is. They’re the third ranked QB in the draft in a piece of shit draft class for signal callers! Take him! Especially ignorant from a guy who watched their franchise literally rebuilt and sent into perpetual winning because they used a bridge to bide their time until they saw a targeted QB they wanted. Carry on with your trolling though.
