No shot he comes here. We are NYJ fans. How dare you act like Woody will find a way to make the right moves!? All joking aside. I just can't see a world where he would even consider an interview, let alone become our next HC. I don't think Vrabel will either. We are a joke. So... I'm fully expecting another Gase like hire.
The funny thing is: Coaching philosophy [edit] Johnson cited his offensive scheme as being influenced by Kevin Rogers, Darrell Bevell, Adam Gase, Clyde Christensen, and Mike Martz.[3] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ben_Johnson_(American_football_coach)
This Is more aligned to my expectations as well. I'm laughing on the outside but dying on the inside. NYJ fandom. Gotta love it. lmao
Vrabel or Flores. No more 1st time coaches 1 is a culture builder(Vrabel) and the other has a track record of telling his owner to quit fucking meddling Either or I would be satisfied
I think the problem is that Ben is #1 option for all teams. And all these owners are rich too. Chicago and Jax might be the most attractive options because they have good young QBs. Granted maybe Trevor and perhaps even Caleb are not what people thought they would be, but they are still very good, and Ben made Goff look like second coming of Christ after McVey, who is also very reputable offensive coach and won SB, actually benched him at some point. The Jets don't have a QB, and I think ultimately Ben will not pick us I am afraid. We probably do end up with one of these defensive coaches and then it's just a matter of luck if they can get a good OC. Take Vrabel for example. He did hire some good OCs before, but then got Downing and ultimately lost his job. Unless you get a superstar QB, it will be a long term struggle with any defensive coach. So, yeah, Ben got my vote, just seems like a long shot due to other opportunities.
Either: A) The Jets miss out for all the reasons already stated OR B) We hire him and hes another Adam Gase, because...........this (un)organization is fucking cursed
What do we know about his leadership qualities, game management, etc? His resume with the Lions has surely earned him a HC job, but I'd like to know more about the above before anointing him the surefire best HC choice out there. Great coordinators aren't always great coaches
It's sad, I was "almost" hoping the Pittsburg brass would be stupid enough to listen to their fans and fire Tomlin. I would have PERSONALLY driven to the Johnson's house and set up a tent, never to leave, if they didn't back the Brinks truck up for a guy like Tomlin. Funny thing though... Unlike the NY Jets, Pittsburg runs a tight ship with class. They know what they have. Mike Tomlin will coach at Pittsburg up until the time as which he decides to retire. Think about that a minute. The Pittsburg Steelers have won 6 SB's with THREE head coaches....THREE head coaches in what, 50 years? The Jets? Pffft...why waste the digital space. I went digging just for shits and giggles... Outside Curtis Martin, every single offensive stat leader is from the 70's! Namath, Maynard, Leahy. Hell, even coaching, Ewbank is the coaching leader, with a losing record. I simply can't even wrap my head around that. The NFL has been an offense driven league since Brady & Manning started their careers and those are the names the Jets trot out as offensive leaders? Folks, Ben Johnson, hell the SHADOW of a guy like Ben Johnson isn't flirting with this dumpster fire freak show. Namath burned up ALL the luck for this shit stain franchise back in 69!!! I say that because it's going to take one of those big ass dump truck size amounts of luck to land a "nobody" offensive guy to helm this shithole. And I mean one of those dump trucks where the TIRE is bigger than 2 men standing on shoulders. What an unmitigated disaster this is.
Get used to it. See my post above. THAT'S the level of luck we are going to need to right this stain of a franchise. I hate to say it but I do not think it will happen in my lifetime to be honest.
uSTADIUM on X: "#Lions Ben Johnson is taking a different approach this hiring cycle. He won’t “chase interviews” … if he takes an interview it will be with the intentions of taking the job (@AlbertBreer). Breer adds that Johnson has two criteria’s in the interview process: 1) Organizational https://t.co/QGmZOnBFs7" / X
Hard to project what it looks like *here* when this franchise basically can't even relate anymore to what having good offensive coaching fits in the building looks like. We do know what bringing in a good defensive mind as a head coach looks like though. Vrabel, BB, Flores, ect. Chasing "culture change" isn't going to solve the primary problem when they all just ultimately end up being a Robert Saleh clone who gets booed out the the building when they can't fix the offense. Figure out how to field a functional offense in an offensive league, score more points, and win more games as a result. That should be *this* team's current culture change formula approach moving forward.
Surprised at the amount of people saying “no first time head coaches.” McDermott, Campbell, Shannahan, McVay, Ryans, Tomlin, O’Connell, Harbaugh etc were all first time head coaches when hired. In fact, pretty much all of the best head coaches in the league (except Reid and other Harbaugh) were first time hires.
