I hope he goes too. Whether it's a new team, a new country, a new substance, a new tribe or a new kind of darkness, I just hope his desire to no longer be a Jet comes true; the sooner the better.
You cannot seriously be comparing Joe Burrow’s MVP-caliber 2024 season to Aaron Rodgers right now. They have played completely different. Rodgers is not the only reason the Jets are losing, but he also isn’t helping them win either. I think if Rodgers plays in 2025 and stays healthy, he will have a much better season next year. However, I am not sure if any teams can take that risk on him.
Do you really think any QB in the NFL would have had success on the Jets this year? Not a chance The Jets fans begging for him to leave will 100% deserve the misery if he goes somewhere else and has success. It's clear as day the coaching or non-existent coaching has been the problem. No one would have success here not even Mahomes. All the Jets have to do is bring in proper coaching and this team will be competitive. Coaching is the easiest fix to. We would go from absolutely no coaching to competent coaching if you bring in Vrabel, Carrol, Rex, Flores, etc. But blow it all up, let's dig the knife even deeper into this fan base. Max pain incoming.
proper coaching? With Rodgers? That’s the entire problem, he doesn’t listen to the coaches. he’s a bitter, failing player these days.
Rodgers problem isn't his play. He's playing as well as a 40 year old can while getting his ass kicked up and down the field. There are guys 10 year younger that would look the same. The play isn't my worry. I happen to 100% agree that a competent coach could have this roster at 6 or 7 wins...easily. Unfortunately, Rodgers problem is all from the neck up. That guy has 2 times the EGO as Joe Namath! I mean damn. I knew he would be a "bit" of a problem here and there but this guy "thinks" he walks on water and is not accountable to ANYONE. Right now, I don't think anyone outside a guy like Andy Reid could get through to him. You'd think with him getting his head kicked in weekly something would jog his addled mind. Unreal... He's a locker room cancer and no amount of coaching is going to fix that. I'd think we'd be better off starting Taylor at this point.
Not disagreeing with you that he has an ego but this all comes out because the Jets are losing. If the Jets were winning no one would care. When he was winning games in Green Bay no one really cared. I dont think hes a locker room cancer, I think he failed to evaluate the coaching staff as a whole before he decided to come here. But if he came here and demanded Saleh be fired from day one then people would have complained anyway. Either way him going under Saleh was a losing situation whether he let Saleh coach or demand Saleh be fired.
I'm sure this has been stated multiple times in this thread, but he HAS to be hurt, like borderline shouldn't be playing hurt. I keep thinking of that Hail Mary he tossed in week 1 - it's not like it was 3 years ago, he was still 40 years old. Fast forward to now and a 10 yard pass seems like a Hail Mary.
It’s not that simple. Rodgers isn’t just a QB. He brought in his OC, his former teammates, etc. He hasn’t played great either. Yes, the coaching has also been terrible, but it’s hard to say what the Jets record would be with a different QB because a lot of other variables would be different too. I’m with you, this team doesn’t need a full on rebuild, they need new coaching and a new organizational direction. The problem is Rodgers has 1 year, 2 tops left. And has played bad this year. Hard to find a coach who would sign up for that. Or a GM. That’s why blowing up the roster and finding a new QB is more likely. If the plan is to re-tool and compete in 2025, then Rodgers really could come back. All comes down to what direction the Jets decide to take...
I did say say that if Rodgers comes back he would need to accept his place as just a player. If he cant accept that he cant come back. Also if the new GM/Coach did not want him then they don't have to keep him. I think there are a lot of HCs/GMs that would want him because there isnt many better option. IMO this team can still compete. There were Jets teams even with Rex that were non-competitive against the better teams of the league because we did not have the talent. Over the last 2 years the Jets were able to play against the best teams (Bills, Chiefs, Eagles, Vikings, Texans) and it largely is due to the talent. The missing piece has been the coaching so if a HC/GM want to come in here and keep Rodgers and go compete I don't see why not. If it doesnt work then start the rebuild. If they want to draft a QB this year to sit behind Rodgers thats fine but obviously they need to find the right QB. Apparently not many QBs in this next draft, but who knows.
Rodgers shouldn’t even be in consideration to be the starting QB next year. We swung, we missed, and it’s time to move on. I still say it’s a massive shame he got hurt last year. The roster was infinitely better and I think we easily would’ve made the playoffs. But alas it happened. Sign a stopgap QB, draft one in the mid rounds and try to build the roster out the right way again. Get a coach who will keep Sauce and some of the younger kids motivated.
Last year would have gone similar to how it did even if Rodgers had made it through the entire game against the Bills. As bad as the O-line has been this year, they are miles better than last year's group. Rodgers would have gotten hurt behind last year's O-line at some point and it would have derailed things and kept us out of the playoffs.
I’m not sure I’m going to follow football next season, but if I decide to do so, I’m definitely gonna root for the Jets.
Given our QB play over the years ,I find it remarkable some (many) are calling for Rodgers head. We have been begging for average QB play...and that's exactly what we have. 63% completion %, 17 TD's vs. 7 INT's. 222 yds/game. Rating close to 90. If you told me before the year those would be the numbers after week 12 with our running game and Defense I would've signed up in a second. Aaron Rodgers is not to blame for our misery! Joe Douglas blew up our D-Line, the strength of our team last year. Not resigning Q. Jefferson, trading for Reddick, and then moving JFM for a bag of peanuts was/is criminal. Our defense has been abysmal at the worst possible times this year (New England, Indianapolis). Hackett? Do I really need to expand on this? Greg Zeurlein? 6 missed field goals in 8 games! Single handily cost us games vs. Denver, Buffalo, and New England. If we retained our d-line from last year and Zeurlein didn't shit the bed, we'd be 6-5 at worst and in the think of the playoff race.
Pretty much agree…we can quibble about the value/worth of Rodgers at his cost (salary plus draft pick compensation) relative to his performance, but agree that he’s playing around mid pack/average…I haven’t checked where he ranks in terms of QB rating or yards or completion rate or whatever other QB metric we want to use, but yeah, he’s been better than anything we’ve had at QB in years…Zach was below 60% in completion rate and had about as many picks as TDs and was averaging less than 200 yards per game. We had more wins then because our D was more dominant but the QB play has been better
No one player or coach is responsible for the misery that is the NY Jets but Rodgers is certainly in the upper echelon. When people ask for only average performance they don't expect to pay top tier prices. They also don't expect average performance to come with finger pointing, player and coach demands. Average quarterbacks go to work and get the job done without all the extraneous nonsense and do it at a reasonable price - financially and otherwise.
His stats are fine, but who cares? Rodgers’ problem is the big moments. He’s a 4-time NFL MVP. The Jets brought him here for this reason. -Score a touchdown against the Broncos. -Get the game winner in London. -Score a touchdown against Buffalo to take the lead. -Don’t throw a game-changing INT up 9 in Pittsburgh. -Score more than 22 against a terrible Patriots team. -Close out the Colts game with a winning drive. Literally almost every week Rodgers has had a chance to lead the Jets to victory, despite all the other chaos going around, and has failed each time. That’s why fans are so disappointed in him.
