I like it but I’m not sure the gum chewing in players ears is as effective in the press booth as opposed to on the field.

Wouldn't he be up in the Owner's suite?

Love that idea. I want him to then handpick the HC. Preferably an experienced ex HC or senior OC. It would be a bonus if the selections hate all things NE starting with BB.

I heard a few people now mention VP of operations ahead of GM. This is a worthless position. GM IS the head of operations. Do we want the best possible GM candidates or not? If you do, you don't hire anyone above him, because it will make it A LOT less attractive to come here having someone else guiding your decisions. Certainly not Pete Carroll, heck even JD took him to the woodshed on the Adams trade. Let the old guy be. And definitely no VP of operations. Let's find the best GM there is, and that person will head the operations.

You need a layer between the Johnsons and football operations. That's where the VP comes in. He better have a no-meddling clause in his contract too.

I am sorry but to me this does not make sense. First Johnson didn't meddle for 5 years with JD. But say he does meddle. VP ahead of GM will not stop it. Woody is the owner, he will or will not meddle regardless of whether there is VP and GM or just GM. It will only make the GM job a lot less attractive because now the GM one step down and cannot make his own decisions having to check with VP first. I think it will be a huge mistake to have this structure.

most teams have this structure these days. "Team President" is very common

As far as I know GMs basically have autonomy and are main football guys in the room. Harbaugh is one where the coach is the main guy. I do not know of many teams where a VP/President, who is not GM or coach, is the main guy. I know we had Parcells in that role years ago, but that was Parcells, and it actually may have cost us Belichick, and possibly having Brady on the team.

"main guy" is subjective. But teams have a person serving above the GM as a President or VP. The GM reports to him. The GM does not report directly to the owner

Do you have the stats on how many teams have someone other than GM/HC reporting directly to them and these people actually have a final say over GM/coach? I personally don't think it's a great idea because a position where a GM has the final say (aside from owner) is a lot more attractive than having another guy AND the owner. Again, maybe if you have a Parcells like presence as that President, there could be an exception, but we do not.

I feel that Pete Carrol & Bill Belichick are too old. They will be 73 & 74 next season, respectively. It would be so same ol' Jets to do something like that.

"Jets are retaining The 33rd Team to support them on their upcoming general manager and head coaching searches. Former Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum and Vikings general manager Rick Spielman will lead the project for the NFL Technology and Media company. The 33rd Team will provide its data analysis and experience to assist the Jets in their search for new leadership."

Spielman helped Washington to get their GM last year. I am very excited about him doing this search. Tanny is OK too as the head of 33d team and the most successful GM Jets have had recently.

Take a look at Spielman's take on the Rodgers trade, he absolutely nailed it: https://www.the33rdteam.com/up-for-...-packers-trade-package-look-like-for-rodgers/ " If the Packers aren't going to pay for any of the contract, I'd probably give them a Day 3 pick, no higher than a fourth-rounder." I mean this was spot on, maybe he should just be the GM. LOL

I don’t think you need to worry…I see no way that Belichick even considers a job here. And I very much doubt Carroll would.

These guys are looking to cement their legacy, not burn it down working for an idiot like Woody.

I just don’t see either of those guys even considering it…I’d sooner expect both of them to just laugh in Woody’s face if they got that call.

I get ego’s are big and they all think that they are the guy to do it, but I just don’t see it with either of these guys.

    Thanks for sharing…interesting

Tanny was the best GM we had after Parcells…every guy who following him has failed. He got too cocky in the end with his trade up’s but he was the last time we won anything.

    Hopefully he’ll help…

Isn't it kind of misleading there about Tannenbaum and Spielman? They will be using their connections to assist on the search. They aren't data guys
