Giddyup. This is the type of non-vague indicator Rodgers himself might want out I've been waiting for. My excitement for the upcoming offseason of possibilities just tripled reading that.
I like this report The Athletic's Diana Russini reported Saturday, citing sources, that is is "increasingly likely" that Rodgers could be placed on injured reserve or benched over the next few weeks. Russini also reported that sources around the NFL wouldn't be surprised if Rodgers is cut at some point during the regular season.
Sure there is. He had a big part in building the team. Why should he get to bail on it while everyone else has to finish it out? He was also a huge part of the marketing for this season. I'd be willing to bet that there are some people who bought tickets for games later in the year expecting to see him play. He should be out there with everyone else if he's not actually injured.
I agree, but also disagree. Obviously it’s been a terrible 11 games. The team is out of the playoffs. The Head Coach is gone. The General Manager is gone. It’s best to see what the young guys have down the stretch. The only problem? The Jets don’t have young guys. Tyrod Taylor is the back-up and I doubt Jordan Travis is healthy. Rodgers is the best chance to win, but does the team even want to win? Who knows. I do agree he shouldn’t be released or placed on IR though. If they start Taylor, he should still be QB2. It’s a mess though. There is no right answer.
yeah but we get screwed no matter what. I do think the release speculation is a little much. But a phantom IR designation is more likely
I slapped down some decent coin (for me) to plan a family trip to the game in Jacksonville. My own Rodgers criticism factor aside the kids would certainly be seriously bummed and not as excited about going if he's not playing. I also wouldn't of bought those tickets knowing that beforehand.
As soon as i see a Diana Russini report i just don't buy it. Yes, there is aspects to her stories that are the true version but she adds her fluff to the headline, The agenda of her reports are to have very click baity headlines that just get shared around to bait people into subscribing to the Athletic for $2 bucks a month to see the whole report. She will even back off her reports after the fact. A example, "WOODY WANTED TO BENCH RODGERS". She mentioned after Woody was just concerned about his injury and if sitting to rest would be the best thing. He ended up playing through the injury and got his leg bent even worse in London. I am not defending Woody but she has her agenda. She hates Rodgers (he called her out publicly about her reporting). I just ask where are the concurring reports from the REAL beat reporters that cover this team, not DIanas partner Zak Rosenblat who this is his 2nd season covering the team.
There is a very realistic chance that they will be 3-10 heading into that game. I don't think it matters if Rogers is there or not. Long term, it's probably better to release him and lose out.
Diana Russini didn't come up with the article headline, the editor at the Athletic did. Rosenblatt confirmed it during a podcast but it's pretty standard that the writers have no control of the headlines and the editors choose the most click-baity headline they can think of in some cases. The Post is a good example, they've turned it into an artform.
You know what's going to happen now....the Jets are going to win the rest of their games. Rodgers and Adams are going to demand a trade out next season. Rodgers wins MVP and goes to the Superbowl with his next team.
Rapaport is reporting that Rodgers is “resisting” medical scans from the Jets out of fear they will make him sit maybe they’ll have to release him? You can’t have players refusing to deal with the medical team
I think this is exactly why he should keep playing, barring an actual injury. The young Jets fans have witnessed literally zero success. It's going to be hard to keep a lot of them engaged and/or excited about the team moving forward. The only draw this team has right now is a future Hall of Fame QB. Yeah, he's not playing great (although, statistically, if he finished out the season, he'll have one of the best years in franchise history, how sad is that), but it's still a chance for the younger fans (and some of the older ones as well) to see one of the all-time greats playing and playing for their team, no matter how completely sideways this season has gone. The franchise has already done great harm to the fanbase this season. Sitting Rodgers, for whatever reason (again, barring an actual injury), would just do more to depress what little bit of the fanbase is still engaged in this season.
