Borgonzi has the best resume of anyone out there. There's also Agnew in Detroit. Bring in either of them along with Ben Johnson as HC and now we've got something.
Listen, I’ve usually been one to discount the idea that coaches and GM’s avoid us in the past. But right now… I don’t think anyone of value is touching this team with a 10 foot pole. We’re going to have to suffer a period of time with some unknown guy at GM, and probably a modern day Wade Phillips type guys as coach. Maybe Ron Rivera or Leslie Frazier
That's true and why I said Woody should beg him to take the job. Nevertheless, I think it's a minor issue. After all, plenty of people that expressed negative opinions of Trump in the past are being considered to work in his administration. Everyone else mentioned in this thread is an unknown as far as the job is concerned. Belichick, as much as he is despised by Jet fans, knows what it takes to win at football and that's what is needed here.
Not HC, only GM. It's true his draft strategy was odd and didn't produce a lot of stars but he was always drafting at the bottom of rounds. I feel that's a job, at his age, he'd be well suited for and not have to worry about the details of being a HC. Everyone else being proposed, while they may have good resumes, will be stepping into a job they have never done before the same as our previous GMs. Not much confidence there. But I agree, not much chance of it happening but I think it has the benefit of stabilizing a Jets situation that has gotten out of control.
The Belichick stuff is a pipe dream, even putting aside his well-known contempt for Woody Johnson. It's safe to assume that Belichick has two goals: (1) pass Shula on the all-time wins list; and (2) prove to the world that he can win without Brady. To do that, he has to be the HC, not just GM.
I can easily agree it's an extremely tough sell but i don't buy the "anyone of value" part the reality is that a lot of the top teams have their GM and HC locked in. Sure a guy can decide to stay there and hope to get the gig when whoever decides to hang things up. But the reality is most of the job opening are for sucky teams. We suck for sure but we don't have a monopoly on that. Most of the teams looking for GM and HC suck for one reason or another. And i don't want to defend Woody. I wish he would sell the team. But it's also the case he did a lot of stuff that many people on the board actually wanted at one point or another. i think any GM HC worth a damn will want JD and Saleh like deals. They'll also know the other opportunities for other teams are just as risky Hopefully someone good will see enough pieces here and perhaps be enough of a megalomaniac that they'll want to bring some glory to a long suffering franchise
It's not that the Jets suck, it's that they have an owner that interferes with personnel decisions, that will make the GM job unattractive. The Jets will not get their first choice of candidates, and for whomever takes the job the Jets will not be their first choice. It is likely to be someone who it is their first and only opportunity to step up and prove themselves as a GM. Likely to be the same situation for the HC. The only hope I see is that Woody hires a a Head of Football operations (not his brother), and completely removes himself from any decision making while serving as UK Ambassador.
I just don't understand the logic behind trying to hire Belichick to do the thing he was consistently bad at rather than the thing he was one of the all-time greats at.
To paraphrase/edit Pitino - 'Bill Belichick ain't walking through that door" Why do people on here keep going down these rabbit holes? Belichick hates Woody Johnson and he's made it clear on the air waves this entire season. I also don't want anything to do with Belichick not only because of this but also because he's just not what he once was. He also couldn't win jackshit without Tom Brady and the team was mediocre then. Hard Pass.
Fuck Belichick First, he wouldn’t come here. Period. He HATES the Jets. Second, why would we want him? He won with Brady and did not win without Brady. His drafts were fucking awful. It was his coaching that covered up his draft picks. I want no part of Belichick. Full Stop.
Okay, I get the hatred for Belichick. He has infuriated football fans, not just Jets fans, for years. However, that he couldn't win without Brady is not entirely correct. There were two stretches of time that I can remember where Brady was unable to play. In 2008 for the entire season due to injury and 2016 for 4 games due to the deflate gate scandal. In 2008 the Pats went 11-5 with Matt Cassel as QB. In 2016 the Pats were 3-1 in the games that Brady missed.
For some one that is sooo hated by Jets fans, why does his name never ceases to come up. Just screw they’d bastard. He doesn’t have. Job before no one came knocking. His style has way passed
Maybe Belichick can convince Brady out of retirement and we can have a QB competition with Rodgers this summer. What is this stupidity?
