I still think this year's failure is 90% on coaching. I do think Joe Douglas assembled a decent roster which could have succeeded with better coaching, but he has made a few really bad decisions that ultimately bit him in the ass. Yeah, you are what your record says you are but I consider him mediocre.

    1. Zach Wilson - I don't fault him for picking Zach at #2, most GMs in the league would have done the same thing at #2 looking for a QB in that situation. But I DO fault him for the decision to start over at QB instead of building around Sam Darnold. I get it, Sam wasn't his guy, but he was the top rated QB of that class by a good margin. It made more sense to me to trade down the pick and use it to improve the offense, particularly on the offensive line.

    2. Failing to build the oline. Douglas was a former offensive line guy and it seemed like his #1 goal was protecting the QB. People will scream out BECTON, but I don't think that was a bad pick, it was more bad luck due to a series of unfortunate injuries that delayed his development. Somewhere, there is an alternate universe, where Becton never suffers the dislocation and has a great career. It wasn't Becton, it was the massive failure of all the others. What happened last season at tackle was a travesty with Duane Brown.

    3. Haasan Reddick. All in all a terrible look for both the player and the franchise. It could have easily been prevented had Douglas done better research and actually had a plan in place. In an all-in year, you don't play hard ball, just sign him and get him in the door. Might have won a couple more early games had he done that.

    4. Coaching hires. Yes, coaching is responsible for the discipline and lack of chemistry / fundamentals, but JD hired them.

    5. Injuries - I know you can't fully blame the GM for this, he's not psychic, but you have to surround your players with good training and fitness staff. This has been an issue on the team for most of his tenure. The Rodgers Achilles injury basically ended his career.

    Hello Chops!

As soon as I heard the news today Ding Dong the Witch is Dead popped into my head. The Jets have a two month head start on winning the off season!

Hackett has been on the rubber gun squad for a month and a half - he's toast. The moves have been made, even if not everyone can see them. Today I feel better about this franchise than I have in decades.

Let's lower the "happy juice." Wood-RUFF the numb nut still OWNS this team and you can thank the ENTIRE Rodgers (and everything that goes with him) fiasco on Johnson. But I feel you...

Goodness, I wish it mattered. I just feel like we're back at the ole' washing machine getting ready to hit the "repeat" cycle. <sigh>

The problem, as The Athletic fantastically dissected todaby by Zack and Dianna, is Woody Johnson's meddling.

We have an Owner who is FAR more involved in the day-to-day team activities than we guessed.

According to TA, he wanted to sign Huff but Woody wouldn't agree to any extensions.

You're entitled to your outlook but how can you believe that Woody Johnson came up with the Rodgers scheme all by himself? Do you think he's that secure in his decision making? Were the other two guys too intimidated by such a strong presence that they did not even attempt to dissuade him?

While I believe the main reason for the deal was to bring new season ticket holders into the fold I don't believe the move was made without noted co-conspirators, at least two of whom are now gone. We saw the pictures of the three stooges - Joe, Curly and Woody laughing it up on their trip to Malibu - the joke is on them!

Thank you, Doctor Jekyll...or is it Mr Hyde?

In the bolded passage you promote the idea of hiring "someone to make football decisions" and in the very next sentence decry those here who have been "calling for the head of the GM." This apparently comes as a surprise to you because Joe Douglas was hired precisely to "make football decisions." His gross failure to make good decisions is what got him fired, justifying those you characterize as having "consistent lack of understanding."

Your hollow claims that all the failed major moves of Wilson and Rodgers are solely the responsibility of the owner hold no water, not a surprise from someone who admits they don't know "what gage (sic) you go by." The only gauge of success in the NFL is the W - L record.

    You do?

    I don’t

Woody will fuck the next GM and HC hires just as he’s fucked up every single one so far.

I think there’s a better than 50/50 chance the new GM will be worse…

I have zero confidence in Woody

Major damage control needed if this athletic report is true.

I was so hopeful when JD he was hired but hope is for fools. He needed to be go but agree with many that it's a little senseless to do it now. <== That's Robert Wood Johnson IV for you. Joke of a "season", joke of a team, only no one is laughing. Well, I gave laughed in disbelief, but that's about it.

Wait for Rodgers to blame everyone else for this debacle because you know it's coming. Obviously it's not remotely all on his shoulders but let the fingerpointing begin and how nobody understood his awesome rad vision.

To me the writing was on the wall when Rodgers was allowed to throw his weight around to the extent that he did. That and JD doubling down on Z Wilson when he clearly wasn't the answer and no viable back up. I got duped by false hope by the win over Philly, because, ya know, stupid.

Gipson never really showed up again and neither did anyone else except for occasional spottiness that when added up together doesn't amount to much.

Sigh. I don't have the ability to DVR games but if I'm busy I'm not missing much.

Yeah, that's interesting. If that's true, then I'm too critical of JD.

It is silly because what you saw was his team, U. Wash. vs. the no. 1 ranked team in the nation Michigan. What you should watch is the playoff game between Wash. and Ore. In that game, a thriller down to the wire, Penix out dueled the Ore. QB Bo Nix who is now the starting QB for the resurgent Broncos. That loss hasn't seemed to hurt Nix any. The only thing about Penix that would concern me is his injury history, not his ability to play QB in the NFL.

year 6. 7th worst offense in yds/ game and in pts/game and not a single rookie of the 7 drafted making an impact or starting on a 3-8 team that is maxed out on salary cap for now and for the immediate future and which has traded away next year's day 2 picks to "win now". Like I said earlier in this thread- you might be able to do worse as a GM over 6 years, but it'd be tough. Can't get rid of this guy, his coaching staff, and his star QB fast enough for me.
