Tankathon - for what? They can't draft for shit. They can't coach up the draftees for shit. This team is doomed. Unless Woody sells the team, that is.
They need to Tank the 2025 season and get the #1 pick in 2026 and get Arch Manning. I would much rather completely suck next year and give this organization some real hope with a franchise QB in 2026 than do some halfass plan (like the Jets always do) and end up 7-10 next season with no long term plan in place. I would gladly go 2-15 next year for the chance at a franchise QB and being competitive for a decade plus. Washington, Buffalo, on and on did it. The Jets need to follow suit and stop this nonstop circus act.
I mean I get it, it's worthy of discussion, but even if things fell perfectly I don't see this happening on planet Earth. It is less possible than elephants growing wings.
Guys, we just drafted a young QB with a mid-round pick in spite of knowing he would have to sit for a year. I am not sure why we need to spend another mid round draft pick on a QB before we even see how the other one does. Jordan Travis is not some scrub. #5 in Heisman voting in spite of missing last part of the season, led his team to undefeated record, dual threat, 44 passing TDs and 7 picks, plus 14 rushing TDs over last two seasons (24 games) in a good conference, ACC player of the year. Whoever you get in the 3d round probably will be a similar guy, maybe even worse. Then why spend that pick when you already have a guy like that whom you carried to sit and learn for year and finally will be healthy? That to me does not make any sense. So, I would only get a top rated QB, but I am not really sure there is anyone much better than Travis available. This is not a great QB class at all. I don't think Stroud or Daniels level talent is going to be there in the entire class, not to mention by the time we pick. So, to me, I would like Travis to be the back-up next year and trade Tyrod. Starter is up in the air, but I just don't see a rookie QB in this class whom we can draft being one.
I would much rather have Tyrod start next year and dump Rodgers. There is no upside with Rodgers. He's completely checked out and enjoying his extended vacation in the New York area. His presence here is toxic and holding back the inevitable blowup/rebuild which HAS to happen. Travis is not the guy. He's nothing more than training camp fodder. The Jets FO knows absolutely nothing about QB talent and how to evaluate it. I wouldn't bet yesterday's dinner on Travis becoming anything more than a stopgap. By the way, all of these scenarios suck ass and bring the Jets no closer to finding a long term solution. They need a 2-3 year plan at minimum and they don't have one.
Saying Travis will likely fail is not really saying much IMO. I mean, in the last few drafts, there were many QBs drafted, and only Lawrence, Stroud, and Daniels are the guys that didn't fail. These are top picks, and many other even top picks failed as well in that span. The point is that if we want a young guy, in this year's draft with our pick, the chance of him failing may be just as high as Travis. I personally want to see Travis in the training camp at least and serve as a back-up, unless we can find a real stud QB in the draft, which I just don't see right now. Will he likely fail? Yes. Will any other QB available almost just as likely to fail? Also yes. That may change as we do more in depth QB evaluations after the season, but it does look like that right now. As far as Tyrod vs Rodgers, I think Rodgers is better still. And even though Aaron missed last year, Tyrod is more injury prone. He is good only as a back-up for a few games a year, and that back-up to me should be Travis next year. We have to see how the season plays out, but I do not want to downgrade from Rodgers. If we can find an upgrade, I am all for it. But Tyrod to me is not it.
