Agree he should have been fired, but OL is not that bad this year. Certainly not as terrible as it was when he came over. I think the coaching is just incredibly bad, where everything looks worse than it is talentwise. Still coaching is on JD as well, he picked it. Time to clean house ... like it was last year.

He picked the coaches (which you did say), so he's responsible for the O-line. And the O-line has been shit this year. Maybe slightly less shitty than last year, but they've still been abysmal. And it's bad when Douglas is making Jerry Jones look like an absolute genius for not offering Tyron Smith a contract. When you're outsmarted by Jerry Jones, it's time to lose your job.

The line has been inconsistent, and a few shitty games, but it was not the constant shit we had all last year. Last year we were clearly the worst in NFL. Now maybe below average, but I wouldn't call it shit though overall. With that said, it's time to bench Smith. Olu had a really good game. Mostly passing snaps, which is his strength, since we were losing by a lot, but I do not recall a single time where he got beat. Time to get valuable reps and make progress for next year.

In that entire thesis you neglected to explain the meaning of your favored "Wood-RUFF."

I’m a bit surprised by how far Smith has regressed…he gets straight up beat a few times each game…not fast enough to the outside anymore

He’s a shell of his former self

Still not blaming Joe Douglas. On paper it's a good roster, not his fault that the coaching staff can't get them on the same page.

I 100% blame Keith Carter for this line

I also blame JD and the entire coaching staff for the shit team, but Carter shoulve been fired in the off-season. If I remember correctly Saleh said he was keeping Carter, not sure if it was actually his call or not though

    Things to blame JD For
    1. Drafting Zac Wilson. Thinking he was an NFL QB.
    2. Drafting Mekhi Becton. Big miss on his character
    3. Wasting 2nd round pick after 2nd round pick on immature players...Mims, Elijah More, etc.
    4. Hassan Reddick Trade

JD has a horrible track record with character players and I think that shows when people talk about the Jets locker roo.

i think so much of this boils down to the Zach pick. Put aside whether or not he should have been picked, once he did things snowballed. My suspicion is Saleh for all his Offensive faults saw fairly quickly Zach wasn't up to snuff but since he was a new coach he only had the clout to do so much and that set us back. We eventually conceded Zach was not the answer and resorted to the dreaded quick fixes

most of the other stuff i think is par for the course around the leagues, e.g., Eagles paid Huff good money for like 2 sacks. People miss. Mekhi was all world for a while (kind of the OL version of Sheldon Richardson). that kind of shit happens

i do think saleh was not devoted to all 3 parts of the game, that he had favorites and he had his dog house, and his judgment was poor. I'd be very curious to know what JD envisions for the future.

if we do reboot at GM we'll need someone good at identifying coaching and player talent. AND who is good organizationally.

And now Becton is playing guard for the eagles and while not a world beater is playing the position he should've all along.

This team loves drafting players and forcing them to play in roles they won't excel in the pros in

Looking back with 20/20 hindsight I do feel it was a pretty bad mistake to not have our new QB, which turned out to be Darnold, start fresh with a new coaching staff and let them come up to speed together. What ended up happening was a big waste of everybody's precious time. Then that mistake got compounded by Adam Gase being more or less a complete waste of time himself.

Pretty discouraging to reflect back on.

Indeed. I was hoping they'd keep Sam and trade down that #2 to help fix the talent around him. Instead they started over and it didn't work at all.

The NFL has never played a game on paper. What paper were you reading that touted Zach Wilson so highly?

Very true, which is why coaching matters.

All first round QBs are coinflips at best. Trevor Lawrence was rated pretty high, pre draft, but isn't that great.

The roster is loaded with talent, they just can't put it together. So I lean to coaching.

All draftees are coinflips, at best - none come with a guarantee. It's up to each player to demonstrate his talent before we can claim any team is loaded with talent. Coaching can improve that and bring it out but can't create it.

I don't agree that draft picks are coin flips. That's a cop put philosophy.

They aren't guaranteed, but if you are good and put in work you can increase the percentages in your favor.

If it was really a coin flip, teams wouldn't pay scouts to roam the country for half the year. They would just pick need every pick and hope for the best.

Actually, coin flip is not a good description because it speaks to only binary choices - black and white, sink or swim, pass or fail but it was the terminology used in the post I responded to. There are an intimate number of places along the spectrum each draftee can land but none of them are guaranteed or even easy to predict; some teams just do it better than others. The Jets have had very little good fortune in their drafting for decades.
