What the hell, did ALL of you come out swinging? This ENTIRE post! Right here... NO ONE of any consequence is going to come to this organization. The only people available will be the young SECOND TIER coaching/coordinators coming up. No one top tier or elite will touch us. It's just career suicide. One day, one day...maybe one day some mini-Bill Parcells is going to come along and pound this organization into shape but, I fear, it will not be in my lifetime. Sad to say...
If Woody cleaned house, hired a president of football operations, and stepped back, maybe the Jets could get a decent candidate. But let’s face it, that’s not happening. Woody’s going to keep up with this ‘get rich quick’ scheme of his and run it back with this roster hoping better coaching will fix it. But no one with options will come here, so it’ll be Rex or some low end coordinator who will never have another shot. Worth remembering Woody is 77, so he’s not going to want to do a tear down and rebuild. We can expect more get rich quick schemes out of him as time goes on, if he wants to live to see his team win- which I think he does, the problem is that he’s an arrogant interfering moron,
I believe there are many long time loyal Jet fans that still refuse to believe that underneath it all, the root cause behind this franchise massive long term failure is Woody, and as long as Woody owns the team, you will never get the kind of sustained talent at the top positions you need to build a long lasting winning franchise. His reputation around the league is not good. I hope they prove me wrong, but after this year fiasco, I hold very little hope. We do nothing but digress regardless of the player talent base.
I don't think there's any question about that. But that's also the only aspect of the equation that isn't going to change, so it feels, at least to a large number, pointless to discuss because there's literally nothing we can do to change it. We've already proven that we can lobby for the coach and GM to be fired, but Woody's not going anywhere.
No argument here, but if Woody is the decision maker on either the GM and or with or the CS, we are dead on arrival. Only solution IMO is to appoint a SVP of football operations with full authority and step down from the day to day. On a different note, regarding HC candidates, I was listening to some senior NFL experts discuss HC talent, and most pointed out that non withstanding the current record, Stefanski of the Cleveland Browns is a terrific HC and a brilliant offensive mind, and if the Browns are stupid enough to let him go, he would become a hot commodity with many suiters.
I'd be OK with Stefanski. He has HC experience, made the playoffs with Cleveland (if he can do it there, he can do it here), and had that success while dealing with a franchise that is inept and has an idiot owner.
All you eedgits that thought Saleh was the problem ... "Under Ulbrich, who doubles as the defensive coordinator, they're allowing 26 points and 349 yards per game, compared to 17 points and 256 yards in the first five games."
To play devil advocate there and at least as far as this latest epic failure run goes: You say all that as if at the end of the the day Woody, as the owner this football team running a business, wasn't giving it's fanbase exactly what they wanted and were screaming for in all this. It's only after-the-fact that the VERY large majority of this fanbase (including a lot of vocal people on this very message board) now want to "boo hoo it's all Woody's fault" the blame away over what turned out to be an epically stupid and rebuild run killing decision to bring in Aaron Rodgers imo. That same long time fanbase that have basically let being success starved for years essentially turn them into a somewhat reflection of it's owner anytime a shallow logic EZ fix solution presents itself isn't ultimately helping push change in the big picture either imo. That this Rodgers run was such a blatant win and right move to make from the business side POV, regardless how it shakes out in the standings, isn't ultimately a good thing in that respect either.
and what "proven winner" is going to want to work for the trust fund baby who sticks his lil binky in things when they don't go the way he envisions?
Hire a College coach ..that is if Stefanski available and turns us down Beggars can’t be choosy..sigh
When he turns us down. I can't imagine after dealing with the Browns and their ownership that he'd be begging to come here when surely there will be some decent OC jobs open for him.
OK, let me name one HC candidate who might not completely throw up at the thought of coaching the Jets - Aaron Glenn. Had a great career here. Had the chance to play under legendary coaches in Belichick and Parcells, part of an outstanding staff in Detroit.
yes, Aaron Glenn has been rising in the ranks of HC candidates, but I just can’t stomach yet another defensive coach. We need to hire an offensive guy who can develop a QB. It starts and ends with that. Go chase Kingsbury or Ben Johnson or the Texans OC before going after another defensive guy.
There are a few things I really like about the potential of Aaron Glenn here as HC. 1) Look at the Lions staff, it is filled with former NFL players. I think it helps a lot to have coaches that have been there and Glenn would bring that here 2) I know Ben Johnson is the "sexy" name from that Detroit staff, but you know Glenn actually has a longer/better resume. He came to the Lions with Campbell, previously he coached the Saints and Browns secondary, where he really coached up those units (which leads to my next point) 3) Glenn develops young players. He's doing a great job with Detroit's young defensive players and he did the same with the Saints and Browns in his particular unit (Lattimore/Haden/Gipson...etc.). I think a lost player like Sauce Gardner could really benefit from Aaron Glenn I think the X's and O's stuff is overrated. One thing that has been a constant is coaches that develop their players. Look at the longest tenured coach in the NFL - Mike Tomlin, he doesn't wow anyone with scheme, he's not even a huge motivator, he is a trusted developer of players though
