There’s no chance he’s getting fired, just like there’s no chance he’s getting a new contract to be here next year. Next year we will have purged the majority of this team and leadership. GM, all coaches, and the following players are guaranteed gone next year: A Rodgers D Adams T Smith J Simpson M Moses J Kinlaw D Reed H Reddick S Thomas Players we’re stuck with: AVT CJ Mosley A Lazard Quinnen Williams (for 20-30m a season for the next 3 years, Jesus Christ when will we learn to stop giving DT’s huge long term deals) T Conklin (this dude sucks, who the hell ever thought he was good?)
Joe Douglas now has a worse winning percentage than Maccagnan and Idzik, and the Jets gave this moron 100 games.
i am as frustrated as anyone but still unsure of whether JD has to go. Im not smart enough to say whether our current misery is poor coaching or poor GM i've liked what JD says a lot better than what i heard and saw from Saleh The emotional me wants to clean house the logical me says that can set you back even further Maybe we just need new coaches and a revamp of college scouting to nail it in rounds 2-5 (or is the entire draft process JD's fault?)
I saw some thing on Twitter that said we have 30 players with expiring contracts. Is that true? not so bad if it is. They are a bunch of losers anyway. We can start fresh
Well the record is what it is, and it’s very bad. That alone is enough to warrant change. However, there is merit in what you say and I do think about that a bit as well. I just can’t help feeling that if we had decent coaching, this team would be much better than our current record. I do think we have talented players in guys like GW, Hall, Adams, Q, Quincy, Reed, Sauce. Those are good players. McD is coming on this year and may get better. The cupboard isn’t bare bones bad. So to me, coaching is our biggest issue, as it’s been for years and years. That being said, JD has made enough missteps to be let go. Just having 6 years with a clean slate and we are literally no better off than when he started is pretty damning. He’s spent a lot of free agent dollars and multiple first round picks on our OL and it still sucks balls (but this is one where I do feel coaching is dragging it down). Shit, Tanny fixed our OL in ONE offseason by drafting Brick and Mangold and signing Faneca and Woody to go along an undrafted guy in Moore. ONE offseason and we had a top 5 OL. So JD has said the right things, and has invested resources and tried to fix the OL but he’s failed miserably. I am good with a full on house cleaning. Problem is, I have literally ZERO faith that Woody will make the right hire this time. We all know he won’t.
I still can't believe that after the 2017 season Chris Johnson added 2 MORE guaranteed years to the existing contracts of Bowles and MacCagnan after the jets finished 5-11 in 2016 AND 2017. Adding multi-years of guaranteed money after consecutive seasons of losing more than 2 out of every three games! Dumb dip! Oh, by the way, after this reward the jets finished 4-12 the next year.
You guys are funny. Just keep firing people until the next coach and GM are hired. Then if they lose two in a row fire them. Progress?
It's a matter of motivation not talent. As long as Woody is the owner, we will not be a playoff team.
Management Thats where it starts The Johnsons hire a GM and that person is responsible for the HC and then HC gets his staff..because you got Douglas you got Saleh the loser coach and when we were up to draft the right QB he failed miserably. Thats a big setback ,,but then he works a miracle getting AR to save everything..wrong again!! GM can draft and make deals ..if he sux we are screwed big time Look at Washington Detroit Minnesota and how they did it ...I mean even Woody and his brother can learn something??
This owner hired Adam Gase. This team isn't going anywhere with the Johnsons. I feel bad for Douglas for being stuck with Gase for a season and a half, but he hasn't put together a good line.
Progress is getting somebody into the jobs that can finally accomplish the tasks. Getting an early start at finding those guys is imperative. And please tell us who got fired after losing two games, or even two seasons?
I'm still on this fence as well. I'm just as passionate as the next guy but, at some point, we really do need to take a logical and methodical look at this piece to the puzzle. The first rule of thumb, when firing your top level people, if you are even remotely intelligent, is to ask the question "whom am I going to get to replace the outgoing guy?" So, who would it be? CLEARLY ownership is not what one would consider "knowledgeable" about this area. So, I ask again, who would it be and does anyone have even the remote confidence that the team could do better or, worse, regress? Let's assess the facts shall we? Please, do debate. This is my opinion only... I'll start with the most obvious. Everyone, and I do mean EVERYONE, has been saying how talented a team this is. Now, the 2024 Jets may not be the most talented team in the league but they sure as hell are more talented than 3 - 7. It should be the other way around, or, at the very least 6 - 4. Joe Douglas assembled this talent. Right now, for this PARTICULAR argument, it doesn't matter "how" we got here, we're here. We can discuss the "how" later. "We" keep saying that he hasn't solved the o-line problems. That is his biggest failure. Well, that combined with drafting Zach Wilson, of course. Now, the fundamental question: Has he "really" not solved the o-line problems? Were ALL the men he brought in bad or was the coaching so bad that the men he brought in underachieved thanks to a lack of cohesive and intelligent coaching? Now, I don't follow the flotsam and "Jets"am (see the pun there) around the league but it seems to me that most, if not all, the o-linemen that have moved on have been at least serviceable elsewhere, if not "good." So, why weren't they good enough to play for the Jets? Some would say, and I most certainly DO say, it's quite clear, in watching the current crop of men, that whomever is coaching/teaching these guys has not clue one of what in the hell they are doing. I'm watching, schematically, a walking talking nightmare on offense. No one, and I mean NO ONE, seems to know what in the hell they are doing. It's so disjointed! Too many men in the huddle, alignment penalties, delay of game penalties, full compliment of time outs burned before the end of the 1st quarter...to name a few. Now, Aaron Rodgers may have lost a step, or two, but his mind still works O.K. It's not his job to get the damn play to the huddle or for his people to be lined up properly and on and on and on. Why isn't Carter gone? Heck, you could call up De LaSalle high school football team and find a dude to coach the O-line better than this idiot. Not one offensive coach has been fired...yet. Nate...I mean "Paul Jr." is STILL in the building, even though we keep hearing he's demoted and they chose to put, as o-coordinator, a guy who has proven elsewhere he isn't up to the gig. How do we know that? Because if he were, this long in the league, he'd be an O.C. somewhere! We keep hearing about the lack of energy and the team "vibe" is off. it must be a hell of a work day to walk into a building where one of your main offensive cogs is disgruntled, knows his ass is on borrowed time, yet he still comes to work everyday?? Talk about "horrible management" 101! Only Wood-RUFF Johnson could fuck this up so bad that he, bypasses Douglas, fires Saleh who's defense is about as good as we can get with this roster, keeps every coach for the one unit that is sucking up all the oxygen, then doubles down by having Douglas go after Adams. Thus burning MORE draft capitol. It's so dysfunctional. Folks, as a long time manager, I'm here to tell you. The most difficult lessons to learn are how to "manage" people, especially your family and friends... It's WHY they say you shouldn't HIRE good friends and family. It compromises your ability to make what would be otherwise RATIONAL personnel decisions. To me, this is where Douglas has failed but, most importantly, has probably learned his most valuable of lessons. It's the reason why experience is so valuable. You simply can't replace TIME. Time to learn, absorb and adjust. Trust me, 6 years is a drop in the bucket when it comes to managing people. I know. No, he hasn't "knocked it out of the park" on all his player moves but he has done enough for this team to be competitive......if the coaching were better. To be honest, he's one of the better GM's when it comes to the lower rounds and especially UDFA's! His biggest failures revolve around his ability to mange his "managers." Of course, it doesn't help when the CEO (Stupid...err...I mean Wood-RUFF) is consistently circumventing you. If Joe Douglas survives, it wouldn't shock me. His player moves have been fair to middling with a few really good ones sprinkled in. Face it, regardless of all the bullshit bandied about this site, Zach Wilson was going to be drafted high and by somebody. It just happened to be the Jets. In the last 5 years, so many top 10 QB's are no longer with their original team it doesn't factor into the discussion. So let's kick that to the curb. Everything else has been...competitive. However, if Joe Douglas gets fired, it will be due to his inability to identify poor coaches (managers) and rectify each situation quickly. The fact these people were friends or friends of other coaches is irrelevant. It's WHY you don't allow it to happen in the first place. Regardless of Saleh's push back, as GM, JD should have replaced the ENTIRE offensive coaching staff after Hackett's first year. REGARDLESS of what Rodgers had to say or Wood-RUFF. Just an opinion.
Building a coherent team is the GM's job, not getting a bunch of players who look good together on Madden. A random fan could build a Madden team. And it doesn't take six years for a GM to build a team or learn lessons from experience. Adam Peters had never been a GM before and turned the Commanders around in one season. The reason it's taken Douglas six years with nothing to show for it is that he's innately bad at GMing. The odds that he miraculously gains 40 IQ points in year seven are about the same as the odds that Adam Gase could be a good coach if some team were to let him back into the league.
Sorry to correct, but he f'ed up 3 QB decisions. Sam Darnold is doing well with his current team. OH, St. Joe, Sam sends his regards.
A mutual parting seems best for both parties. JD can't stay, even if Dildo #1 offered him a new contract - his legs were completely cut out by Woodrow firing Saleh and not getting JD's input. Woodrow said the decision was his and his alone...
The best thing for the Jets would be to fire him. If they can't hold Douglas accountable, the guy who has averaged 5 wins a season here, has made the O-line worse than it was when he got here, and who has whiffed on draft pick after draft pick, then how can they ever, with a serious face, ever try to hold anyone else accountable for their performance. He should have been fired after last season. And each week they continue to employ him is just more and more evidence that this franchise isn't even trying to be serious.
