They should scratch Corley for the Cardinals and then let him out of the doghouse for the Colts. The guy is a rookie.
Right, and this was a great example of why he’s 5th on the depth chart…it’s a boneheaded play, totally unforced. I would have benched him for the rest of the game. Go sit and think about how stupid you just were. And work harder in practice to prove you belong. Do you think someone like Parcells or Belichick would keep playing him? No way. Parcells would bench RBs for fumbling… To me, this is just another sign of the lack of accountability…players keep doing stupid shit…lining up incorrectly, dumb penalties…we probably lead the league in pre snap penalties. So whatever the coaches are doing about it, it isn’t working. Time to try something new. I get you can’t bench everyone…shit we’d have no OL if we benched them for all the penalties we’ve had. But this to me was just such an avoidable stupid thing…it shows such a lack of attention to detail. And the coaches are at fault because clearly they are not preaching the details. They are not preaching smart play. Personally, I would not have put him back in the game. Fumbling happens…you get hit wrong, etc. But that was just so totally self inflicted and just stupid…I have no other way to describe it.
you really think he doesn’t know it was dumb? I think Corley was probably mortified and more pissed about it than any of us What purpose would making him sit if he already knows it was a dumb mistake? im all on board with benching players and holding them accountable for effort mistakes, if they are being lazy or even just not going 100% out there. but if you are gonna let Sauce Gardner tackle like a girl all season and not do anything about it, but come down hard on Malachi Corley for 1 play? That seems like bad leadership to me
DeSean Jackson not only did this years ago, he also did it in college and before that in high school. Some guys really don’t learn from their mistakes.
Back in the day (yes, I’m old) coaches would have had you doin up-downs all next practice for that moronic move.
I already hit like to your post but, I definitely blame Corley. That will be the last time he does that in his NFL career, you can be sure of that.
My guess is the guy was so freaking excited that, "holy shit, I am gonna score a TD on my first touch as an NFL player" caused this to happen more than hot-doggin' . Now, at some point down the road he does it again, then I will stand corrected...
" “But listen, he was excited. It was a play that happened. It sucks. It’s disappointing. Nobody feels worse than he does, but it’s kind of a crazy thing,” Rodgers said. “I was getting made fun of because I was telling Tae [Davante Adams] and Garrett [Wilson], ‘You guys score these touchdowns and hold the ball up before you get to the end zone, I guess I’m an old white guy, but can we just run through the middle of the letters, please?’ " Put him in timeout and make hime stand in the corner during next weeks game and hopefully he'll direct his venom at the next opponent
I agree: this was so outrageously dumb, you don't even punish it. The outcome of the play is punishment enough. He doesn't get to have his first career TD. How long before he actually gets one?
Know what? I am more interested to see Malachi play now than I was prior to the fuck-up. The whole fist-greasing of his stupid "YAC King" nickname garbage put me off after they drafted him (That probably was something out of his control) but now I am curious to see how he recovers. I think he will recover. Since we ultimately won the game, maybe it'll be a proper ass-kicking that will benefit him. I hope he's given some plays this week. Maybe it's just me. Anyone agree or are you done with him already? Cut your losses?
He should have done that dog pissing and marking the territory celebration in the end zone, pretending that the ball was his dick. Then it would have definitely counted.
Look, he did one stupid thing. We have players doing stupid things every week. If stupidity becomes his trend then yeah, bench him. But his personality and desire to compete was top notch based on preseason and his draft profile. I don’t think he’s stupid, I think he did a stupid thing.
