1 - Yes, he's overrated. 2 - Let's look at his yards per attempt, when you eliminate his biggest run of each game. 3 - why does that matter? Because our inability to establish the run, and get consistent yards on 1st and 2nd (when the coach's stubbornly tried to establish the run), has handcuffed the offense, and submarined our ability to establish confidence in a young QB. 4 - So yes, Breece fans can point to big numbers. But when you eliminate outlier games and outlier runs, he's been bad and run game inconsistency has been a root cause. 5 - And just like I think the OL and coaching has impacted him, I think it did the same for Zach. Here's what the data says: His 2023/24 game logs indicate that Breece averages 1.5 Y/A less when we eliminate each game's longest run, going from 4.14 y/a to 2.68 y/a. That is significant. And screams that predictable early down runs have hurt him, and hurt this team. In 22 games since 2023 - he's averaged more than 4 Y/A 3 times. Twice in games that matter. Seems HORRIBLE! - he's averaged between 3-4 Y/A 2 times. - he's averageed less than 3 Y/A 17 times. That seems unfathomable for a bell cow back on a team that stubbornly tries to establish the run
Eliminating his longest run is a dumb way to evaluate a player. He's a homerun hitter of a player. If you want a guy who just plods for 3 yards at a time let's bring back Shonn Greene
He is a good player, but his effort this year has been suspect The goal line play this past week, it was power right i think. He gets hugged at the line, no leg drive, doesn't try and spin off and fall in the end zone, he just accepts it A few weeks ago, he breaks down the left sideline, and in the open field, gave a half-assed move that couldn't shake the safety, steps out at the 5. We settle for a FG
would like to see what he could do behind a good offensive line I saw a crazy stat pop up when watching highlights of the Chiefs game - their RB got stopped behind the line and that was only the 6th time this season they have had a running play that hasn't created positive yardage.
Yeah, Barry Sanders may not be in the hall of fame... but to answer the question... The talent is there, but not sure the heart is....
Yes and no. He's a very good running back, but he is nowhere near what Jet fans thought he was for the past couple of years.
I don't think Breece is overrated. But I don't think he is the every down bell cow that people think he is. He's got the moves and the burst but not the vision. IMO he'd be best used in the 1st and 4th quarters while pounding Allen through the middle of he game. As far as his perceived lack of effort, that doesn't make any sense. If it is happening, I cant explain why?
Breece is not overrated. I've been critical of his play this year because he can be even better. But they dont give him the ball enough, he's effective as a runner and as a reciever. I would like to see him in a fast paced, run first, spread offense. A young QB that can run himself with Breece Hall next to him and running RPO plays, like they are used to in the college game. might not happen though as Rodgers blocks that dream and Hall will likely sign elsewhere when he can
He, along with every other talented young player on the team, is struggling. This team is not coached well and that’s the bottom line. One player regresses, blame the player. Two players? Ok maybe still blame the player. But when you can point to 5+ players all underperforming the way we are, that’s coaching. It shows in everything we do, all the way back to Saleh’s first days here and all the way through Ulbrich.
I might be misremembering the goal line play versus the Patriots but I remember it looking like if he didn’t just run into the pile and giving up he easily could’ve high tailed it for the pylon and beat the defender. Really weak ass effort.
After his rookie year, I thought we had a Chris Johnson or a poor man's Fred Taylor. Now, I think we have maybe a slightly more talented Priest Holmes.
His talent is not overrated. As we all know he may well have challenged for OROY had he not gone down at Denver. His lack of production this year looks like lack of effort to me. Which is more concerning. I like him though, so I hope he gets the 'arm round the shoulder' or 'kick up the butt', whichever one works for him.
This. On that note YPC is such a lazy and flawed stat too many people view as an end all in deciding if a player 'sucks". It also leads to similar conversations and questions you saw popping up on the other side of the bad NY team fence last year when Saquon ended up averaging under 4 YPC. There is basically 32 production versions of every NFL player depending on the team/situation you put them into. The Jets just consistently suck at extracting the better ones. Pretty sure if you take Breece Hall out of the arguably worst coached offense in the NFL, and put him in Philly for 2024, he'd be looking a lot like a "rebound" Saquon Barkely too.
I think it's a combination of poor OL coaching, no clear offensive philosophy resulting in no identity on offense... all resulting in a lack of focus and execution from players that are simply waiting for a broken 40 year old QB to fix everything. And now they see in his eyes that he can't.
So you want to remove his ability to make an impact play from determining if he's good? What kind of way to analyze performance is that? Sent from my SM-S906U using Tapatalk
