It’s a very hard question to answer. First of all how many quality candidates will move on rather than deal with Woody Johnson? Isn’t this decision going to be made by the next sucker who takes this job?
Not to mention, and to keep it real here...any HC we do bring in will basically have to have Rodgers' stamp of approval. Not to mention have a limited amount of flexibility say in our last and final "Aaron Rodgers Saves the Day - Take 3" team/staffing build for the 2025 season. Why this talk of a Tankathon or the idea of drafting a QB this upcoming offseason are so far out in left field right now. We are still another full year away from any legitimate attempt/s to change course away from the current disaster. I mean we didn't just give up a 3rd round pick for Davante this week. We committed $38.3 in cap money over the next 2 years for his age 33 and 34 seasons. That hole we keep digging before any real thought or serious consideration to a new and different faced future still only gets deeper from here. The next HC hire, if it's doesn't just end up being an internal promotion, will be a guy with a shovel in hand
I know you have a hard-off for Rodgers, but have you been paying attention to this team the past 15-20 years?
I have. Why in the world, considering what you just stated, would you believe anything different then what I just stated was going to happen here? lol
Kingsbury or Ben Johnson. I wish there was a more experienced legit option, but there seems the be a chasm between good candidates in their 30’s and their 70’s. I want nothing to do with Belicheck or Carroll.
Ok. Well if you want to use Woody's incompetence in all this to somehow absolve Rodgers of being a bad guy villian in all this....it still doesn't change the end game picture in play here. Any new HC is still walking in here to oversee a very heavily invested into the Aaron Rodgers echo system team build, with an unfireable OC, and who's not going to be given the option to make any real "my way" wholesale changes to that in year 1. That's just where we realistically are in all this right now. There is a certain type of HC fit we'll be looking for, and we already realistically know a guy like Ben Johnson isn't going be in that mix.
Have you not been catching the fun jabs BB has been taking at Woody and us as a constant failure team? lol. He's actually been dropping some gold lately with stuff like "The Jets are the Jets and Woody is Woody" Seems like a literal zero chance BB ever considers a HC vacancy here. Carrol maybe.
Carrol's not coming here. He's not going to let the last chapter of his coaching career to be going out with a whimper in this miserable place.
You know...I think Rodgers retires at the end of this year. Every time, in the last 2 or 3 games, they pan to him he has this tired look on his face. There are TEN more weeks left in this season!! I'm not all that certain he finishes the season upright. He's taken quite a beating the last couple weeks and he's going to play some seriously stout defenses coming up. I don't know, I just feel it.
They need someone to come in and rip up the entire infrastructure that has been built. Someone needs to come in and tell Woody what's wrong, not just what Woody wants to hear. Woody is the easy blame since he's the owner, but think back to when Parcells was here. He took over the entire thing, set up an infrastructure that lasted 15 years all the way to what, 2012? We've had incompetence in the scouting department and FO since then. Douglas lost his #2 and #3 this offseason, but what do they do? Just hire some schmucks from inhouse. The entire thing needs to be stripped down to the studs. The owner isn't selling so I don't even think that should be a talking point. The person he hires to run the entire football operation is where it needs to happen. We are just a shit organization when you compare it to the Chiefs, Eagles, 49ers, Ravens, or the Steelers. Look at the Mets for instance. Cohen buys the team and stays the fuck out of the way and throws money at the shit that matter -- analytics, sports medicine/science of players, game management stuff. Our FO is lightyears behind any of the other teams in this league. Why is Phil Savage still part of this FO as a consultant? What are we doing?
It's s shame because Carroll is one of the very few who could turn this entire franchise around in 2 seasons, Anyone who brings up that he's in his 70s clearly knows nothing about Pete Carroll and is just bringing up the age because they know nothing about his pedigree nor lifestyle. He's still one of the most beloved players coaches in the NFL, one of the most passionate, energetic coaches around and he's in Southern Cal just living the good life right now getting ready for his teaching duties next semester. It would take an absolutely gargantuan offer to pry him from his lush confines to come to this chaotic shitshow. Woody would never have the balls nor foresight to make an offer like that and Carroll would most likely never come here anyways so it's a moot point. But the Jets being the Jets would be complete morons to not swing for the fences with this next regime change. There's only a few guys who could pull it off and Pete Carroll is one of them.
Also if Woody Johnson brings back Aaron Rodgers, Joe Douglas, Ulbrich and the rest of these schmo's next season, then everyone on here should not buy any Jets tix nor any Jets merch. You should give Zero dollars to anything associated with the Jets. Make no mistake, this team will be AWFUL next season as well. Nothing will change. If anyone has ideas on how else to boycott or make Woody feel the sting, make sure to post them here so everyone can read.
OK, Rodgers is a big meanie.... The dude's 40 and beatup. He's just here as a bandaid (whether or not it's an effective one is a different matter) and in 2 years will be gone...
This is all 100% true and on point. But that still only takes an isolated off look at the situation and how it actually looks to project itself out as a whole. If we weren't already passed the point of no return in regards to fully committing to this Rodgers Run through 2025, trading for Davante this week and taking on all that salary unquestionable put us there. There realistically is no wholesale roster or culture change coming in 2025. Whatever head coach we want to hire needs to gel with that predetermined plan of trying to make this all work in year 1. Whether we Jets fans like it or not that is going to thin the field of potential options out. It would also probably suggest an older vet HC type looking for another redemption chance then some young fresh mind type you are hoping is the next up and coming genius. Maybe even out of the field of HC that get fired this upcoming offseason. Least we know it won't be Mike McCarthy after he gets the axe in Dallas
FWIW Rodgers went out of his way to be pretty vocal about his distaste for Gruden over those emails, and being Aaron Rodgers might also hold a lasting grudge over Gruden not taking him in the draft when he said he would lol. So guessing that would be a no go.
