Key was a great player for us, a guy who would do anything to win. yes he was a loudmouth and a jerk but he was a team leader, a guy who always played hard and did alot of dirty work to help us win. His performance against jacksonville in the '98 playoffs was one of the best individual performances ever by a WR.
We've never replaced him. That should speak volumes. Chrebet aside, the man was integral to our success back in '98. Vinny to Keyshawn was almost automatic.
How can you possibly have a positive impression of this guy? He is a star and Chrebet is just a flashlight? C'mon. The guy was a douche bag and has never returned to form.
Favorable, since he left the Jets have been looking to find a bigger receiver to replace him. Matt Hatchette, Curtis Conway, and Justin McCareins have all been horrific.
I have a favorable opinion of him. It's not like the franchise got nothing in return with the package of two first round picks. He was a reciever that not only provided a big target for Vinny, but was a winning wide reciever in the respect that he was a terrific blocker, and had no hesitation going over the middle.
So you have a favorable impression of him because we haven't been able to find another big WR? I'd say that Coles has been a more than adequate WR.

Sorry dude, but Keyshawn was ten times the receiver Chrebet was, no matter how much heart he had. If he didn't open his mouth, Keyshawn would've been elite.
No, that is not what I am saying. Coles is under 6'0. Every receiver the Jets have brought in over 6'0 has been a bust until this year with Cotchery. I have a favorable opinion of him because Keyshawn was a beast, he played hard on every down, blocked very well, and had excellant hands.
Most under-rated Jets player in the past 15 years. He almost single handedly changed the culture of losing surrounding the team by not accepting mediocrity, and challenging the front office to change. Of course, being an outspoken black, man he was villianized for it.
I love key but we were 1-15 w/ him in 1996, the man that changed the culture was Bill Parcells. Race had NOTHING to do w/ any of it so don't start that nonsense. key was an immensely popular player when he was here.
Bill Parcells changed the culture of losing around Jets-land. I don't harbor any blame on Key for the 1-15 season in 96, Rich Kotite could mess up a cup of coffee.

So what factor made Leon Hess at 80something years of age, after not caring about absolute miserable horrible football for 20+ years all the sudden decide that he deserved "some enjoyment out of this team" and hire the first real head coach the organization had since Webb Eubank? Key's book called out the whole organization and was a CHALLENGE to get better. Hess responded by bringing in Parcells. And race has everything to do with it. When a white player speaks out like Key did they everybody falls all over themselves talking about how much that player cares about the team, cares about winning, and wants to be a leader. A black player speaks out like Key did and he's a selfish jerk who's only out for himself and who should just shut up and play.
Dave bringing up race in this matter only hurts your argument. Funny when I saw Peyton even broach about calling out his offensive line people were telling him to shut up. It works both ways man its the way Keyshawn carried himself and went about his business. If Curtis Martin ever called out the organization I GUARANTEE people would take what he says to heart because of his personality on and off the field.
you think it was b/c of Key? come on. His book came out AFTER Bill Parcells was hired. Key was LOVED here, race had nothing to do w/ it. Chrebet spoke up in 2002 after a win that he wasn't getting the ball enough and he was skewered for it and last I checked wayne is white. Key is hated now b/c a)he's not a Jet anymore and b) he had alot of bad things to say about the Jets and about Wayne.
