Not a good sign that 2 out of the 3 games we haven’t looked competitive or like we belong on the same field. Tomorrow is a must win or I do believe this series is over!
Yep if they go down 3-1 its over. IMO the offense is to blame. While the pitching wasn't great in both games there was time to make it a game, especially today. If we had scored 2 runs earlier and tied it then that game probably comes down to the wire. Hopefully the bats wake up tomorrow or it is over.
This team is so boom or bust it's ridiculous. In the off season, this team needs to seriously look at the bullpen and look to not only resign Alonso, but also bring in Soto (or another big bat) as well. I had a fellow Mets fan ask me the other day if the Mets win the WS and resign Alonso, if they should keep the same team or upgrade it. I say even if they do win, they need to upgrade. This team made the playoffs by 1 game and has relied on crazy comebacks to stay alive. If they they did pull off a miracle it would be very lucky and unlikely to repeat such success. And yeah I'm still bitter about dumping Lugo.
Take away the 2nd inning of game 2 and the series is 0-3. More like utterly embarrassed in 2.8 out of 3 games.
Have they? I usually work friday night, so havent really watched aside from postseason/ important games then... either way, they should be given to a homeless shelter
Resign Alonso? Why? He's awful. Put Vientos at 1B next year and Mauricio at 3rd. Alonso is not worth the $25-30 he is going to get. Sorry.
I think they are setup well for next year. I dont think they expected this deep of a run so the holes the team have, are starting to show now. This offseason they likely will make the moves to put themselves in position. With that said hopefully they can somehow pull a miracle and win the World Series. Only 7 wins away, its still in front of them but have to start today or its over.
I think that this is the key, which is easy to forget. The day Lindor hit the home run against the Braves I posted here that I had to remember going forward that it was all gravy from that point on - the only realistic expectations the Mets had going into the season was contending for a wild card spot. That they made it to the NLCS is definitely overachieving. The fact is that there have been just as many disappointments this year (Alonso, Nimmo, McNeil, Alvarez, Senga, Diaz) as there have been achievers (Lindor, Iglesias, Manaea, Peterson, Severino, Quintana). Who knows how they'll all do next year? The only thing I would change about your statement is that it better not be "likely" that make the moves this off-season - it's a requirement.
To me it's all about whether Cohen wants to overpay, and by how much. Even this version of Alonso is a net positive on the field, but far less than the 2019-2022 version. If he'll take $20M a year it's probably worth it, but the $35 - 50M total more than that he might get is just a waste of money. But in a non-salary cap league, that only matters if it affects Cohen's willingness to spend on other people. (I would say like Soto, but I don't see any way that he picks the Mets over the Yankees.)
Having a winning season was considered overachievement. Making the playoffs was complete overachievement. Winning 2 playoff series? complete insanity. Regardless its not over. The Diamondbacks were down 0-2 last year coming off a 10-0 loss against the heavily favored Phillies and they proceeded to win 4 of 5 and won the series. The Dodgers can be beat, they just need to hit. If we hit in last game we either would have won it or it would have been close to the end. They can turn this around, its not over but they have to start today.
Looks like the season is going down the drain. The only chance the Mets had was to get top-flight starting pitching, and it ain't happening.
